I also do not recall seeing that stamp before, Ryan. Thanks for posting! I must agree that it is an unflattering image of the Queen, but one of the reasons I think so, is that in my opinion, it doesn't really look like her. One could almost imagine a story that they wanted to do a design with a portrait of the Queen, but couldn't find one, so asked a local woman who sort of resembled her a little to sit for the artwork.... or something like that! To me, it just seems "off" and doesn't really look like her.

This was copied and pasted from his interview. I am sorry I am rubbish at linking
1975 Happy and Glorious Most people only knew the queen by her photographic image, particularly her Christmas Day afternoon TV appearance. It was therefore clear that photographic reference was necessary for a publicly relevant portrait of her. By the early seventies with the movements of New Realism, Photo Realism and Super Realism, use of photography in art had become common practice and acceptable in a way that it had not previously been.
833f7d2babda88da55e7c32a597852a8 1975 Happy and Glorious Nick Treadwell with “sic transit gloria” by Mike Gorman 1975
“The first time I attempted to persuade artists to contribute to a theme show of portraits of the British Queen was in 1972. It was to be the first of my gallery`s long series of theme exhibitions, but the artists were totally against it, making such comments as “Look Nick, I have enough of my own ideas, I am not going off on a tangent to paint some corney idea of yours” or “Look Nick, I am not some fawning monarchist, No Way!”. Following the success of other theme shows, I tried again in 1975, asking them, if they got a telephone call from Buckingham Palace, would they agree? and enough of the artists said – yes, if they could keep to their own values – and I was able to go ahead with “Happy and Glorious”. As I had expected, it got blanket publicity coverage world wide, including the front cover of Der Zeit in Germany, a substantial article in Time Magazine in the USA, A big piece on the news pages of the Sunday Times, Die Presse, Austria, The Australian and so on and so on…Two years later, at the time of the queen`s Jubilee, the Sunday Times Magazine gave over three pages to twelve portraits of Elizabeth 2, in which they included four from my gallery`s exhibition. The most successful and persistently reproduced over the years has been “Memories” by Graham Dean (with “Herself “, seated on a wooden throne with Union Jack mug of tea on it`s arm, headscarf covering her hair, which is apparently in curlers, reading a scrap-book of herself, with two corgis included in the background) which was once again reproduced in the Radio Times at the time of her 80th birthday.” N.T. 2010
I will put some pictures up in the next post.

This picture will definitely divide opinion but I love it especially when I was able to ask the artist what he was trying to achieve. The Queen was actively looking for a more modern portrait in the late 1990's. Following this portrait the Queen later commissioned him to paint the Lord Chamberlain. As you can see from what he wrote on the postcard I was able to give Justin a postcard of his portrait that he didnt own.

Pictures if these stamps are difficult as they are silver. They were produced in a limited edition of 2006. Most of the stamps I have seen on ebay have become tarnished. Silver stamps was a first for the Royal Mail. (See below letter. They were originally £60 to buy from Royal Mail. I have picked up several sets over the years for less than £10 each from ebay. The bit I loved was the info it came with which helped with my collecting.

This is an interesting one these stamps were issued in 2011(my pictures are postcards as easier to see the detail. I own the original of the next picture. This was painted in 1953 by Millar Watt and published in the ILN in 1953. This picture was reproduced in 2012 as part of the diamond jubilee set. My original does not have the writing. Again the original is in storage which I cant get to. I paid £200 for the original direct from the ILN archive which is expensive but I thought worth it as u dont see many originals of the crown jewels The original colours are so much more vivid. It has been restored as it was not stored correctly at the ILN and mold was forming. Its a very important piece of history.

I have had a lot of positive experience with buying but as I have gone on this journey I have bought fakes without realising. I have reported numerous sellers on ebay as a lot of pictures ars just copies put in old frames and I hate the fact people are paying a lot of money for them. I have seen every trick in the book. Please feel free to ask any questions I will help where I can.
One ebay seller sold a coin that was found to have an error on the day it was released. I told several of the sellers selling 10 plus of the coins. I asked to buy one coin at the price they were selling as I didnt have the coin. Out of 8 sellers only one seller let me buy and thanked me. The Others cancelled the orders and changed the price from £20 a coin to over £100.
I hope this allowed as I also want to warn people of a dealer in the UK who sells a number of stamp items.
I bought an original portrait photo of Queen Elizabeth from an online dealer that was used for a stamp. I saw it being advertised as an auction piece but as I researched I found it on the site For £500 less.
The photograph was £250 on site and estimates were it was going for auction for estimated £600-750. I bought the photograph from the site. It was the same picture as there was a v distinctive pen mark on HM nose! and the numbering was the same. The photographer uses specific numbering patterns.
I queried both with the seller and auction house that I had genuinely bought the photograph. I was completely disregarded and it went to auction anyway. I didnt buy it at auction but went one better and bought an original etching of the portrait for £20 on ebay. The satisfaction that I got something better at a cheaper price was so worth it. I just feel sorry for the person who won it at auction for £750.

In a lot of Zaïre stamps I recently ordered, I found the following block issued to mark the 25 th anniversary of QEII's coronation: (See previous post for image.) This is an amazing portrait of the Queen. It is used on a number of different stamps in different countries. I will try and do a post if it helps showing all the different stamps with this portrait. The photograph was by Cecil Beaton. I think it is an incredible photograph

I've shown a less than flattering stamp so I guess I should also include one of my favourite images of the Queen. The Cook Islands used this picture in the late 1970s - this particular image was snipped from a souvenir sheet (one of a few released by the Cook Islands, some of them included text labels which described the crowns shown). You can see one of these souvenir sheets in this post from Rod in our Cook Islands thread. Ryan

I was lucky to find the Cook island stamp sheet as part of 2 complete albums I bought with all the commonwealth stamp covers from 1977 and 1978. Thank you for the link to the cook island post. I havent really looked at each of the stamps in terms of country. There are some amazing sheets including places like Hong Kong Once I have time I will try and add all the sheets to the post. There are some amazing stamps in them but I have too many!

I have stamp sheets for most jubilee, wedding anniversaries, royal tourson Britannia. If anyone is looking for stamps of a particular country please ask and i can look them out I have added my Cook island ones to the Cook Island post. I have 100s of original stamp sheets and stamps with incredible portraits as I have researched each artist and major events I have said in the Cook Islans post; The photograph of the main wedding group was taken by Bassano. I also have the original Times press photographs of both the Wedding and Coronation if people wanted to see original photographs where the Stamos were taken from. If u look carefully you will see that Princess Elizabeth is not holding her Bouquet in the group wedding photographs The bouquet was lost between Westminster Abbey and Buckingham palace. The portraits had to be re sat but the group ones couldn't because of the difficulties of getting everyone together. Shows even the most royal wedding can have mishaps

These are the last tonight. The 1978 stamp was designed by Jeffrey Matthew's. Again I will do a whole post on him as he played a fundamental part in many stamp designs including designing the iconic HM Queen 60th Birthday stamps and sorting the different colours on the Machin stamps. The Machin stamp is the most reproduced work of art in history . The estimated figure is over 300 billion copies. It is probably a question you are thinking. I believe I do know the rarest UK HM Queen approved stamp that can be used for posting.. It was produced in only a quantity of 1000. I bought and own the vast majority including the v first stamp that came off the press and will give one away in one of the free draws London Bus is going to help me with. I have tried going to 2 stamp specialists but they laughed at me so I gave up. I think they saw me as just someone who had no idea. i hope my stamps prove you dont have to be an expert to specialise. You just need to know your collection inside out and how each item fits in with others. They didnt give me chance to explain what I had done in my collecting. They just used the words everyone thinks they have the rarest stamps without asking what thd stamp was! If experienced stamp and coin collectors dont embrace newbie collectors and help, people will not take on the hobby. It is thanks to people taking time that I have picked up the hobby I have also read and researched I am hoping to donate one of the stamp and other items to the National Portrait Gallery in the UK when they reopen. At the moment they are all on furlough. They have been v approachable and helpful. I may be wrong and people might know of a rarer stamp. It is not an error stamp but a special produced stamp in only a quantity of 1000 Of an official portrait. It is a postal acceptable stamp in the UK which could still be used now for postage. Some of the stamps have gone on covers. The exact figures are somewhere in my archive files Of the exact use of each stamp be it cover or as a stamp sheet. I have previously found the rarest official 50p a few years ago of 19,571. Coins are usually produced in millions. It was thanks to a similar forum like this where I was able to share the info. I was able to make a significant profit and was able to donate a good amount of money to local charities and gave nearly 20 coins to coin collectors. I hope I can help people in the same way with the stamp. Goodnight

My grandmother's family stemmed from Barnstaple - I accompanied her on a bus tour of Devon & Cornwall 35 years ago or so and she was most excited when we got in the area around Barnstaple. Ryan

Love this stamp cover and stamps. The artist is Michael Noakes. Michael Noakes and his wife Vivian Noakes were granted permission to record the public and the unknown behind the scenes working life of the Queen. The illustrations are incredible. They were taken over a period of a year. Piece of little known info. In the 4th stamp you will see the Queen with a lady and a dog. The lady was Vivian Noakes, Michael Noakes wife. I will put up some pictures of the cover and from the book. Sadly both Michael and Vivien have passed away.

I realise alot of the stamp collectors are not from the UK but dont know if anyone has anymore detail about this amazing designer. They are quirky but I love them. I only have a couple of covers as they are very expensive to buy at £50 a cover. Unfortunately Jack Oliver passed away in 2007 and I think production was stopped 2010/2011 so they only ran for 10 years or so. I bought the above cover as I have researched Machin so much. Love this cover as it is number 60 out of 100. It celebrates the Queens 60th Wedding Anniversary. This stamp cover is v special as ot is signed by Jack Oliver and one if his last cover designs.. As I go through my items you will see some lovely items from 2006. I will do one post on this incredible year in time. 2006 is a special year for me and why I have so much on 2006 because my youngest was born in 2006 and I wanted to find her something incredible to mark her birthday to give her when she is 21.

Just received this through the Royal Mail the other day, both HM Queen and Queen. Think I am going to have to buy one of these. Queen and Queen. It was Freddie Mercury who came up with the name "years ago I thought up the name Queen.....it's just a name, but it is v regal obviously and sounds splendid"

I am sorry I havent posted for a while. I work as a pharmacist in the UK and the last few months have been tough. I use my collecting as a way of blocking out the stress of work but sometimes it gets too much that I cant even do the hobby I enjoy. New year, new start so thought I would start to post again some bits that I hope you will find interesting
