How does everyone store and display their plate blocks? I was looking at some Vario pages but I'm not sure which size to get. I was also thinking about Showgard mounts, I think they have a size for regular issue blocks. What about coil pairs?

I keep mine mostly in Vario pages. It is only when you get to the blocks with multiple plate numbers, etc. do you need more than 1 or 2 sizes (3 or 2 pocket). They eliminate the need for mounts.

Just an idea. Using "mounts" for PBs would cost a fortune - not practical - $$$$$ and time consuming - René btw: there are other types of albums made for plate blocks - depending on the stamp store

I have a mix of mounting, depending on what they are and where I want them to be.
Some are in stamp mounts on the page. I use 55mm mounts with no worries about them sticking out of the top. I also have Vario pages with mounts included in the album, but I'm not really a fan of this method. It's OK, but my least liked choice. The other is in stockbooks. My Centennials and Caricature and Landscapes plates are in stockbooks.
Pick and choose, and use what seems to fit.
I like the mounts, as they can be easily included on the album pages.

Yup, been there, done that ;-) It is a good question Brian ( bcuddy ). Like the others that have posted, I tried them all: mounts, 'Vario' pages and of course, the old-favourite - stockbooks.
Given my recent infatuation with Canada's Locomotive series and a collection of their PBs, the cost of mounting them all is becoming evident. I think they next thing to try is corner mounts, similar to what I have been using for souvenir sheets. Let us give it a go and we will see how it works; I am hopeful...
Happy collecting!

I have mine in Vario pages in a couple of binders I purchased at Staples. Most of them are not worth much, so i’m not wasting money mounting them. That is, unless I want to a more detailed exhibit of them. I bought clear corner mounts, like you’d use mounting photos - only bigger - to mount those. I believe they’re intended for mounting covers to a page. The idea is to prepare an exhibit style page for certain stamps and insert it in acid free page protectors in a binder.

polarbear and guilloutranHow to mount or keep safe a block (I suppose we are talking about PBs and not just 4 stamps making a block) has no relationship with its value. A PB is worth more than a single stamp and most (99%) I collect are Mint NH. I am just questioning what we are getting into with 1) value 2) cancelled blocks (or PBs) ?? René

René I'm not asking anything about value, I don't have anything of value. But I do have some plate blocks and some just some blocks of 4 that I want to put in a book or binder. I'd like to do something other than leave them in glassine envelopes. I purchased some Varios sheets that should be coming in the mail today. I'll try that out and see how I feel about it. I'm still trying to figure out how to organize, display and store my collection. Thanks for the feedback.

bcuddyhope you like the vario pages - I don't for blocks (PBs and Blocks - but if you bought the right dimension of pockets, that should do the trick. The method of storage is important but to have an inventory is also of interest. I think the most important, for me, is to know where my blocks are for myself and posterity !!I love blocks and have a Canada collection as well as a USA collection. Stay well ! René

I find the plate blocks and all other blocks look nicer on the album page. I just use the largest stamp mount and go with that. Of course I use clear mounts. I'm you are using black, well that just would not work out in the least. Some are in binders, with a type of vario page, some in stockbooks. There are a fair number of them, which is why I didn't add them to album pages. But now I can print my own pages, maybe I'll do just that.
Here is a scan of a mini-sheet, not a plate block or block, but you get the idea. It just looks nicer on an album page!

Pete brightonpete, love our $10 Whale - it looks nice on your page. I have too many blocks to start creating those nice pages and am not investing in the size of those mounts as it would take a case !!! LOL Enjoy ! René

You can see that the mount doesn't quite reach the top of the lower stamp. But in a page protector, all is good.

Guys ......read previous Posts unless you have less than 25-50 Blocks (or PBs) for a Country - This is expensive - better to use a dedicated Block Album(s) cost is worth it.....I said my piece as I have over 300-400 PBs (more probably) and never put them in Album unless super special and super $$$$$$$$ !! All are in Block albums I got from my late dad or bought after. René I respect your desires, btw

I like the look of your block on the page brightonpete . My blocks are mint. My collection is used otherwise. I think it would just look weird to intermix them. I don’t know. That’s the question I’m pondering these days. Your page looks great though, so I might try it. I have close to 150 sets of corners blocks. ETA: I do have a few sets of expensive corner blocks. I also agree with renden. This isn’t financially feasible for all 150 sets of blocks for me. I’ve settled for Vario up to know.

Lots of blocks, polarbear ! That used is there because I have yet to get it mint. I intermix, but usually gravitate towards mint overall. I had two sheets of that Whale. I just couldn't break it up! So into the album it goes. I like it that way better than in another binder. Ya renden , mounts cost more than Vario, but for me, this is better! Besides, didn't you see that big package of mounts that came in the mail yesterday?

Hi
I use blank quadrille pages. If I do get a plate block, cover, souvenir sheet, etc., they all get put in mounts and mounted, with a single, on a page, or 2 if necessary. Note that we are talking South American stamps and not US.

My not very attractive method to store blocks and postal cards in Vario pages. I consider Vario pages an investment as they can be re-purposed many times.

That's a good idea, adding info to the Vario pages, but I'd be inclined to have colourful (what else?) backing paper, with a note printed on that and the cover/card/etc mounted on the backing paper.

I am fortunate that my late dad left me his Lindner Canada Albums - I just slide the PBs in the relevant pouches, no mounts, clear view of the printed picture - very nice and practical - Each Album is numbered with the name of my dad, JL (Jean-Louis).
As you know these Albums are from Germany. - and even with this it does not take care of Unitrade's (the catalog of Canada) multiple varieties and when you get into tagging varieties (ex: the centennials small values and large values) it does not do the job. That explains why all of them are in Norway, given to an "expert" to decipher ! These albums are very costly when purchased in new condition; worth over $650.00.($C) and hard to buy. They are preprinted.

Most of my collection is blocks and I used vario pages to store them. I have them stored in a mixture of different types of pages some of them are the four block pages, others are in the three row pages. I have two per row. Is it okay to store them like that, or should they all be in individual pockets?

It becomes more interesting when you have sheets to store. I have about (give or take) 40 sheets. and I do not want to break them up. I use heavy plastic overhead sheets, I cut them down to the sheet size, with a 2 inch top, then use gorilla clear tape to seal 3 sides, slip the sheets inside. then seal the top with said tape. so IF (which I do not plan to ever take them out). I just purchase the same sheet, and use the extra to make blocks and such.

Probably you've heard from enough people; but I'll add my 2 cents worth. I have a lot of blocks in my collection, both plate blocks and just plain old blocks of four or more stamps. Nearly all of them are in Vario pages. Some older ones that are either more valuable or fragile, I also put in mounts to reduce the chance of them slipping around and having to be handled. I try to make my album pages look neat but, mainly for lack of time, I don't prepare nicely annotated pages like many collectors do; full credit to them. (Several exceptions, one being the Machins - I have enough varieties that they have to be described). So putting the blocks in Vario sheets adjacent to the display of the singles works fine for me. I usually use mounts for coil pairs or strips. Re: mint vs used blocks and multiples - most of mine are mint; but depending on value and other display considerations, used are well-worth keeping and put on display in your albums, e.g. I have a couple of used blocks of the 50 cent Bluenose and they are on prominent display. I almost never break up used blocks and usually keep them.
