This series, issued Jan.20th,1985 is the first of four more, surcharched on earliar issues. All in all there are 20 stamps and 5 souvenir sheets. Some of them, the set above is amongst them, exist imperforated also. There is a 20 Nu on 25 Nu. souvenir sheet to the above set,I do not own.
Earliar overprinted series, converted high valued (unsold) stamps into stamps of the rates for local mail. This new overprints, however, were so high in value, that they might have been intended for sale to collectors only. The in-land letter rate at the time was 50 Ch.

In September 2022 salentin made 2 posts of this antique cars simulated 3-D set (Scott 128S) of antique cars. I have had this cover bearing the 10 NU value from the Bhutan Philatelic Center for decades. I thought viewers of this thread might like to see a postal use, even if from the Philatelic Center. Examples of this cover once popped up frequently but I haven't seen one in some time. I noted none on eBay' however, I found several cut-out pieces with the stamp and postmark, as well as unused sets. I trust this post is not an intrusion. JeffS

By no means JeffS ! Funny thing is,that i had (possibly have - can´t find it) a very similar envelope, only addressed to me. Same stamp, illegible cancel, same sender. What is not the Bhutan Philatelic Center, but a stamp dealer in Calcutta in India. That is why I was never sure,if it really was mailed from Bhutan. If my envelpoe should "resurface" one fine day,I will scan and show it...

angore,
Kilkhor-Mandalas are made by applying coloured sand on a flat even ground. It is a contemplative arduous work of art, what can take quite a long time to complete. When this is done,it will be wiped out.A symbol of the perishableness of all and everything. For detailde information,I´m afraid, you will have to consult the net or literature.

I understand that Kilkhor is Dzonkha for the Sanskrit (and English) Mandala. The term refers to the design rather than the medium. There is a Tibetan ritual involving construction of a sand painting of a mandala, but the image is also common on thankas (hanging images).
Here is a painted mandala originally created by a student at an art school in Thimpu:

I thought that "Kilkhor" just means sand. But I might be wrong. Painted mandalas are for sure of better commercial value, than the ones made of sand. The important part of the latter is their destruction. All,including gods, ideas and the universe (and even stamps) will perish. That is the message of the Kilkhor-Mandalas.

The revalued overprints from 1985( original series from 1982) were overprinted as well. It seems, that these are rather scarce.

Exactly. I have to bear this in mind when I start to wonder to what end am I collecting? What will happen to my collection after my death? As with the sand kilkhor, what is important is contemplation at the moments I work on the collection. As with the sands of various colors, my stamps will be dispersed.
