Philippines : Aguinaldo KKK It has been about 8 years since I found one of these in my penny Worldwide Auction lots. another arrived yesterday. (Moderator Note: Images removed; please see previous post.) I just happened to be looking for an opportunity to procrastinate for a moment, and this task was of the right scale! The Scott US Specialized for 2014 shows the unused value as still $1.00, with the used value at an italicized $10.00. However, I believe it is the newspaper stamp, YP1, as opposed to the registration stamp, YF1 (whose value is $3.00 unused, italicized $10.00 used). In the cartoon illustration, the registration stamp is on the left and the newspaper stamp is on the right. -- Dave

Yay! Thanks Dave, appreciated, was too slack to look up my scott specialised. Just a "heads up" my friend, it's good to copy text using the cursor, the use the "quote" in the selection list row. Saves re inserting all the images twice, and saving Admins Bandwidth, which he has to pay for. Keep up the good work. Shall adjust and edit my album page.

Hi, Rod -- I happened to be on my phone at that time, and saw your post from the "Recent Posts", rather than the original thread, and it is hard to edit on the phone. I usually do try to trim things down, but it was very hard to follow on the phone. It does create additional scrolling for people, and for which I apologize. Also, it's my understanding that, unless the image is hosted on here, which I don't believe you're doing (and which I don't do), then admin pays for the "hit" to the page, but the images and their sizes should have no impact. The bandwidth used for the image is a matter for the image host, and possibly for the reader of this thread (if they have metered service) but not for ProBoards -- unless I'm really mis-understanding how the internet works. That's the beauty of HTML -- it looks like the image is here, as if it were embedded in the post, but in fact exists on another site. (Must now return back to my original task ...) -- Dave

Saves re inserting all the images twice ... I missed this on my first read-through. That also is the beauty of HTML (at least the way it used to work, but I believe it still works this way). There is just one call for the image, no matter how many times it appears on the same page. It is your browser software that is doing the work to display it in multiple locations on the page. (And, these days, with most web browsers, if it has called the image once recently, then it just pulls it again from its image cache on your computer, so it's usually not even making the call to the original image host after that first time.) Now back to my previously scheduled duties ... -- D

Picked up my black Aguinaldo KKK today (serif to your sans, Rod) to go with the red one I acquired a couple of years ago. I believe you explained these to me then, Rod, elsewhere.

The 3-stamp set issued May 22, 1950 both honored Franklin D. Roosevelt and also commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Philatelic Association of the Philippines. The perf. 12 stamps of the set are: 4c dark brown (Scott 542), 6c carmine rose (Scott 543) and 18c blue (Scott 544). The Philippines also issued an 80c deep green air post stamp (Scott C70) of the same design on May 22nd (sadly not in my collection).

Here are some of my Philippine under US admin. Two cut squares (well, round actually) from envelopes issued in 1908. Two shades of green.
And these are all issued under Japanese occupation. The last two imperforates may have been cut from a souvenir sheet. I don't know if there's a difference between the imperf issues listed (N29a, N30a and N31a) and the sheet (OSP2)

Manuel L. QuezonQuezon, a statesman and leader of the Filipino independence movement, was elected as the first President of the newly-formed Philippine Commonwealth on September 17, 1935. Quezon was re-elected President in 1941 and traveled to the U.S. to form a government-in-exile after Japan invaded and occupied the Philippines in 1942. Quezon died of tuberculosis on August 1, 1944 while still living in the U.S. The Philippines issued its first Quezon stamp on May 1, 1947 (Scott 511); I acquired this 1 centavo bright green, imperf. souvenir sheet of 4, issued on November 28, 1947 (Scott 515), from the Stamps for the Wounded table at a local show held several months ago.

Three air mail stamps commemorating the Centenary of Philippine postage stamps were issued on April 25, 1954. The stamps' design includes depictions of Magellan's landing, a stamp of 1854 in orange, and a Manila scene. The perf. 13 stamps are: 10 centavos dark brown (Scott C74), 20c dark green (Scott C75) and 50c carmine (Scott C76).

Thanks, René, for your post today, which brought me to this section on Philippine stamps, an area I have just adding to my collecting interests. I've enjoyed seeing the other posts over the past several years.

René ( renden), You are correct regarding the absence of activity on many of the countries on the Forum's regional boards. In fact, there are approximately 100 or so countries that haven't yet had boards created for them yet -- the list of those may be viewed here. I'm hopeful that Bart ( bafletcher) will add some of his favorite material to this category and I welcome additions by others. To get the ball rolling, let me share something from my China Clipper collection -- a first flight cover from Manila to San Francisco (the cachet is by F. R. Rice).

I thought that with this lump the revised o/p value had been forgotten - no such luck. The original 1978 values of 1.35 piso and 30 sentimo from the 'Decade of the Philipino Child', were revised in 1981, and the lower value was o/p to read 10 sentimo. It is visible but difficult to read and I needed a lens to see the new value. Why the new figure wasn't placed next to the obliteration seems a mystery. The title of the image is 'Traveling Family' and the original SG Nos. were 1432/33 - with the revised 1981 entry for this lower value of PH 1625. I'm way out of my comfort zone with this area, so correct my errors if necessary - I hadn't realized the difference in spelling with Philippines and Philipino - had assumed it was two pees for both. You can see a speck flaw on one of the right hand stamps.
