A souvenir sheet from the 3rd annual convention of the Cover Collectors of America held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Note the dates on the left edge of the sourvenir sheet and the dates of the show cancel. The descrepency is due to a printing error on the souvenir sheets. This souvenir sheet was printed with the wrong dates of the convention. A sheet with the ""corrected" dates was subsequently printed with the wrong dates lined out and the correct dates printed on the right side of the sheet. Why the June dates on the corrected sheet were identified as "war dates," I have never found an explanation. See the two souvenir sheets below the cover. I suspect that the usage of the s/s with the wrong dates may be scarcer of the two, at least used on cover. There are no subsequent cinderellas from the Cover Collectors of America. The organization apparently did not survive WW II.

I just received my 2nd issue for the Boston 2026 World Expo in Boston, what a show that will be. Bought one sheet for mailings, and one signed sheet. These are really big! I didn't realize they'd be this big.

Really nice cinderellas, daniel, thanks for sharing them! Off-topic for this thread, but I'd love to see USPS issue a stamp honoring Nabokov someday. He did after all spend 20+ years in the U.S., during which time he composed some of his greatest works.

daniel , the auctioneers of Nabokov's collection really went pedal to the metal on those cinderellas! I read most of his books, starting in high school and going through college. Lolita was a revelation about what the English language is capable of. And I kinda made sense of Pale Fire. Pnin was quite lovely, and the most relatable of his novels (I still remember learning the word "defenestration" from it!). I went through most of them looking for something else like Lolita or Pnin, but many of them were so cold, lacking in any sort of empathy for the characters. I do remember liking Glory (aka The Exploit), and I remember reading Ada but remember absolutely nothing about it except getting a thrill or two from figuring out a couple of his puns. Really nice cinderellas, daniel , thanks for sharing them! Off-topic for this thread, but I'd love to see USPS issue a stamp honoring Nabokov someday. He did after all spend 20+ years in the U.S., during which time he composed some of his greatest works. It's a nice thought - I tend to think almost all of his greatest works were done in the US, or at least written in English - but I don't think it will ever happen. Lolita had to be printed in France, if I recall, because no US publisher would touch it. After a couple of years of being depraved, it became a classic of the English language, but the moral tide has turned so far against what even hints at child molestation that I don't think it will resurface as the classic it is for a long time yet. Is Nabokov on any stamps from anywhere, do you know?

Hi eggdog, yes, given that the exhibition was relatively recent, they certainly did a very good job with the stamps. There is actually one more sheet depicting different book covers for Lolita. I decided not show that one. Online, I could only find Nabokov stamps from Mali and Malawi plus a postcard from Russia. Thanks for your comments, Daniel

This rather plain oversized envelope (9.5"x6.5") once contained a souvenir program (not any more), but what caught my eye was the tiny label in the lower corner. It commemorates the opening of the Bourne Bridge in Bourne, Mass in 1935. It crosses the Cape Cod Canal, connecting Cape Cod with the rest of Massachusetts. It won the American Institute of Steel Construction's Class "A" Award of Merit as the "Most Beautiful Steel Bridge" in 1934. Isn't that nice?

Pulled from that Texas cinderella lot, a LEARN AND TRAVEL WITH THE U.S. ARMY cinderella on a repurposed WAR DEPARTMENT envelope. I can identify the postmark as from Detroit, dater hub 4, however the year date is not clear. This AIR MAIL SAVES TIME w biplane slogan is recorded by Payne as in use in Detroit from ca. 1930 - 1933:

JeffS showed some Photo Stamps for San Angelo, Texas in his Texas Poster Stamp thread. Here is a similar lot that I have for New York. I, also, have the original envelope which is in the exact same format. In this case, the stamps are attributed to Adrian Photos Corporation, Longacre Building, N.Y. Also, a few posts above in this thread, I posted a set of Presidents which are also Photo Stamps but these are attributed to Apeda Studio Inc,N.Y. There must be some commonality in publishing these.

POSTAGE FREE FOR VICTORY
WWII "stamps" for use by active duty armed forces personnel eligible for free franking.
Bottom block of 10 of a sheet of 100 with inscription detailing copyright and ordering instructions. The sheet of 100 duplicated this inscription at the top. I found a complete sheet offered on eBay for $195 or best offer.
My block is without gum and shows evidence of being soaked.

American History Stamps from AMOCO (American Oil Company) issued in 1937. An album was also available. 25 from a set of 32. (Actually, I see that jamesw posted a set in a separate American Oil thread)

Hyatt Quiet Bearings. For some these were issued in 1934 but not according to copies of the 1915 Poster Stamp Bulletin ! The only thing both agree upon is that it should be a set of 6 ! So there it is, up there. Printed by the Franklin Press in Detroit. Londonbus1

I couldn't resist when I came across this item on eBay -- a souvenir sheet issued by the Mare Island Stamp Club for its 5th Annual Exhibition held at Vallejo, California on November 10-11, 1945. The Mare Island Naval Shipyard, established in Vallejo, CA in 1854, was the first Navy base on the West Coast of the United States. The facility was closed in 1996 as part of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment process initiated by President Clinton. More information on Mare Island may be found here. The Marine Barracks at Mare Island (date photo taken unknown).

Does anyone know anything about these? In 2009 Willie Nelson made an album, called Willie and the Wheel, with 9 time Grammy winning American western swing band Asleep at the Wheel. The album came with 13 postcards and this sheet of stamps. See this Discogs link

tomiseksj , you can probably narrow down the time frame of the photo to sometime between 1915 and 1927 when that Curtiss JN-4 (Jenny) was introduced and ultimately retired. In fact, you can probably narrow it down even further to an end date of 1923 based on this quote from the Wikipedia page about Mare_Island_Naval_Shipyard. "In 1911, the Marine Corps established two West Coast recruit training depots first at Mare Island, the second at Puget Sound, Washington. Mare Island eventually became the West Coast's only recruit training facility when the Puget Sound operation consolidated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1912. Instructors trained recruits there until 10 August 1923, when they relocated to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.[12] The Marine Barracks Mare Island remained." I love these historic photos of military bases, especially when they show airplanes. I have been and remain a WWII aircraft nut. I was fortunate in that I inherited this great photo of my father (#41 in the photo) sitting on an F4U Corsair aircraft wing toward the end of WWII. This photo was taken at Naval Air Station Grosse Ile.

Darrin ( darkormex), thanks for narrowing the photo's timeframe; the window remains 1915-1927. While recruit training shifted to San Diego in 1923, Marines continued to be stationed at Mare Island until its closing.

Daniel Thank you daniel . In the mid-1970s We saw "The Wheel" perform in a little club in Arlington Texas. Back before they got big! I also saw Willie in an airline cart at DFW airport looking like he had had a night!

Although these are from the Letter Seal Co., Pittsburgh, I wouldn't classify them as seals. Rather, they seem to be 'return address' labels. Either way, they are very attractive.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I saw back in 2014 there had been a 1970 version of the President of the United States sheet by H.E. Harris shared on this thread. I have seen lots of single singles and partial sheets of these over the years. This one was stuck between the pages of a 1973 Harris Pioneer World Wide Postage Stamp Album. This sheet is marked Copyright 1961. It is not something I will want so it will stay with the album when I return it to my friend.

I have very fond memories of Mare Island, as I visited there 2-3 times in the early 1980s, when I was an active-duty Marine, and a good friend of mine was a submarine officer in the Navy, based there. It was a beautiful base, and I really enjoyed my visits.
