A U.S.S. Akron label from A.C. Roessler...
Does this come from one of those ridiculously-priced Souvenir sheets that pop up on ebay and Delcampe ? They are nice but way overpriced, like many Cinderellas it seems. No. Pretty much everything I've posted over the last day comes from 2 fixed price lots I bought several years ago at one of Apfelbaum's 70% off sales. There are a lot more that I have not yet shown. If you wait on Apfelbaum's sales until he gets to 70% or 75% off, there are some real bargains to be had. Overall, I probably averaged about $1.25 per cinderella stamp or sheet in these sales.

This has periodically occurred with images posted by others and my suspicion is that imgbb occasionally appends such links to images uploaded to their site by those who are not signed in to an account on the site.

Another sheet recently received from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization (see earlier post); this sheet of 30 stamps (5x6) with silver borders has a winter holiday theme.

A question for cinderella collectors:
Are there two colors for the 25c for 30 days coin stamps? I have only the 25c red, but it appears that there may also be a violet 25c label as well. Does anyone know or have a 25c for 30 days label that is other than red?
Thanks.

Picked this up today. I thought it might be Israeli, for obvious reasons, but then I noticed the 10¢ denomination and google informed me that the United Tiberias Institutions Relief Society Inc. (quite a mouthful!) is actually located in New York City. They are noted on several non profit charity sites and are described on one as 'United Tiberias Institutions Relief Society is a religious organization focused on international development and relief services.' Not much else. They have been tax exempt since 1949 but don't appear to have posted any tax info since 2017. I found this label on the inter-web in three different colours, blue, green and purple

LondonBus1:
Nice Mail Transportation series! Any Idea who issued those?
Also, an update to my November post re: the coin stamps from Old American Insurance Company. Yes, there is a violet 25c for 30 days stamp to this set. James Drummond supplied the info, and the 25c stamp to complete my set.

A somewhat unusual subject for a set of cinderella stamps - not Teddy Roosevelt, the President, but his son, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. Best known as the general who commanded U.S. Army forces at Utah Beach on D-Day, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., was a statesman, politician, businessman, and philanthropist in his own right. He was also the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Governor of Puerto Rico, Governor of the Philippines, and a founder of the American Legion.
The sheet is in poor shape with many separations, but the individual stamps are in pretty good shape.

de61....those two lots were great. Never seen them before. Very attractive to my eye. stamphinger.......I have some info about the Mail Transportation series but cannot put my hand, or eye, on it. It will turn up. But I know there are many colour combinations and the full sheets look really nice (sadly I cannot get them at an affordable price).

The Mail Transportation series were issued for the 1947 USA Stamp centenary Exhibition in New York. Bi-Coloured sheets of 14. 2x7 if I recall correctly. I do not know how many colour types exist....yet. But I am working on it !

Has anyone had the privilege of visiting one of these beautifully-named USA places ? Did you meet Alice in Oregon ? Or have cross words with the devil in Washington? And did you guys...yes you....start feeling romantic in Colorado !!?? It must be good in Kentucky and I'd prefer that to getting dirty in West Virginia. Wouldn't you ? Guess that's all from me. I'm off to find all those places that sound funny or odd. I'll pop back here when I've found one. Londonbus1........missing my Rural Retreat !!

The strange place name labels drawn by John Coulthard and published by The Western Stamp Collector are among my favorite cinderellas. I notice that you did not include in your post #7 1/2, Sunny South, Alabama. Was that because you don't have that one, or, as a moderator, you consider it too politically incorrect for the forum? Number 25, Talking Rock, Georgia, is another touchy one.
I have been trying to put together a set of these on cover for years, but still lack eleven of them.
Great set.

stamphinger.........these were altogether in one lot that I found recently. Usually I am outbid as prices tend to be high for these. This is the biggest lot I have seen though. Usually they come in singles or small groups. Never seen 7½, at least I don't recall. Last week I found a '00' but the bidding was silly.....unless of course it is really that scarce !? How many are there, do you know ?

Hi LondonBus:
It's my impression there are 40 in two series, maybe 42 with the double zero and the 7 1/2. Somewhere I have a news item from The Western Stamp Collector about these sets. I'll try to find it and post it here.

A block of four advance labels publicizing the annual tulip festival in Orange City, Iowa. The festival began in 1936 and is now in its 80th year (the festival was not held during the war years 1942-1946). 1938 was the first year that the festival became a two-day event. These are the first I have seen and I don't know if others were printed over the years. Orange City is in northwest Iowa and the county seat of Sioux County. It's population is ca. 6000 souls. This block is destined for my Iowa cinderellas album.

This circular label, one of several items produced for Iowa's 1938 Territorial Centennial, is out of my Iowa Cinderellas collection. It appears that the Iowa Safety Council is no longer operational, but it is now the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council with its headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. The council's purpose is to provide education to business and industry on how to prevent accidents in the workplace. This label is a large item with a diameter of 88 mm.

Another set from my Iowa-related cinderella collection, this one of poster stamps showing scenes of Sioux City. These items are not dated, but I believe them to be circa 1938, the year Iowa celebrated its territorial centennial. I don't know if this set is complete. When I originally bought these poster stamps, there were only five items, but I recently acquired two more. Sioux City is on the Missouri River in northwestern Iowa, it is the county seat of Woodbury County and is the fourth largest city in Iowa with a population of about 82,000 souls.

Back in November 2919, I was the fortunate recipient of a give-away by Londonbus1 that included a number of cinderellas. Among those was the stamp-like item commemorating a Seattle, Washington Potlatch Festival. I found its colors and art deco design attractive and put in a search on eBay for like objects. I finally got a hit last month and was successful in obtaining a second label, this one for a year later that combined the event with Seattle's Fleet Week. The latter recognizes and celebrates the large U.S. Navy presence in the Puget Sound region. The label dated 1934 on the right is the one that Londonbus gave me, the 1935 item on the left is my recent acquisition. Wikipedia says that the Potlatch Festival was an annual event from the mid-1930s and prior to WW II. It may be that no other labels were issued, but I am continuing to look for others from previous or later years. If anyone has, or has information about the history of this festival, I hope you will add your comments.
The Potlatch has its origins with the native tribes of the Pacific Northwest. Wikipedia explains it as a "giving" festival in which the organizer demonstrates his wealth, generosity, and unconcern with objects of wealth by giving them away or destroying them.
Interesting items for my cinderella collection.

Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff. Looks like they may not have been any after the 1935 label. I sure would like to find a card or cover like those pictured in the article.
