What I collect: Samoa, Tobacco theme, Mail in Wartime, anything odd and unusual!

In nearly 70 years collecting I have never seen this overprint. It does not appear in my SG catalogue which leads me to conclude it is a departmental stamp not on general sale to the public hence not in the catalogue or is it a revenue / fiscal stamp? i. .co/VVNDxCw/CBE0-B4-F6-4365-

Alex, I wasn't familiar with it either but, as you suggested, it is a revenue. In Barefoot it states under India Postal Service 'these stamps used as receipts for postal administration and fiscal fees, rather than postal charges.' Found on seven KEVII stamps and a dozen Queen Victoria stamps.

That thread ends with a typical brusque response from you know who 😉

Well thanks you two, daniel and Beryllium Guy . For a fast solution! I am a self imposed exile from that particular forum for obvious reasons since the Sheriff/ admin lacks civility and courtesy in spades. I note also the poster lasted less than a month and 5 posts on Stampboards , sadly a common event when one gets treatment like that . However my query has been answered, thank you.

Well, Alex ( vikingeck ), I am glad if I could help a little with your quest. Just to be clear to both you and daniel , I wasn't in any way suggesting that you should have anything to do with the Sheriff. But I must admit that the site has many good, informative threads, and those often come up in searches for specific philatelic information. I lurk there on various occasions, but I have never joined, mainly due to warnings that I have received from TSF Members, like the two of you, who have already had negative experiences.

Actually, I haven't. I've never joined but, like you I drop in from time to time 😁

I have been hearing warnings about that site for years now. I am sorry to continue about a subject not really relevant to the initial question but I too find myself lurking there occasionally when I do searches. I have no interest, however, in joining, because anyone who puffs himself up and polices a site and calls himself "sheriff" is no one I wish to be associated with.
