I received this photoprint as a stiffener for recent purchases from a seller in France. The iconic Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.

Today an EBay lot arrived using an empty DVD case as a stiffener. That’s different, eh?

Received this stiffener about an hour ago with 3 Machin booklets enclosed. The stiffener was part of a 2002 stamp pack of 5 stamps GB, depicting The World Cup. Why the pack was split up is baffling, especially as this one has the design copyright of Consignia (not Royal Mail). The cellophane cover was also there, covering the stiffener & booklets.

The complete front cover (or at least as much as I could fit on my scanner) of a Royal Mail Stamp Album!

Received this Maxicard used as a stiffener for a lot of uprated International Response Coupons that I'd won on eBay. The 90 centimes, multicolored, perf. 13¾ X 14¼, UPU service stamp was issued on September 9, 2003 (Switzerland Scott 9O19).

The following scanned mailing stiffeners were protecting some Machins I received today. From Kellogs cornflakes packets & nice to see Kellogs considering visually impaired people with their product. The envelope has quite a lot of detail on it with the machine cancel in English & Welsh language, also advertising The British Heart Foundation.

A few more mailing stiffeners received today via eBay. The scanned items are from a Royal Mail presentation pack (in 2009) which featured British Design Classics. Spitfire, Mini-skirt, Mini car, Anglepoise Lamp, Concorde, Telephone Kiosk, Polypropylene Chair, Penguine Books, London Underground Map & Routemaster Bus. Mary Quant who designed the mini-skirt sadly passed away last week. The stamps were issued in several formats, in sheet & booklet form. I posted some similar scans in a earlier post, basically a different format but the same pack.

Received the following mailing stiffener today which was protecting some Machins. Sent from the North East of England so nice to see they still get 8 ice cream "lollies" in their boxes, down to 4 in this neck of the woods. I'm surprised at the Rainforest Alliance logo on the box, I didn't now that "lollies" grew in rain forests??? LOL.

I think we are missing the first word! We don't know what letters 1, 2 & 3 are and one or more of the blanks on the top right are also cut off.

Just received the scanned mailing stiffener which was protecting a single Machin stamp from the Wonder Woman commemorative booklet. I ordered the stamp with upright backing paper last week, by mistake, when I wanted the inverted type. The eBay dealer I bought from kindly sent the correct version, so thanks to him. Royal Mail did a good job getting it here in 24 hours with 2nd class postage only. The stiffener looks like it is part of the packaging used to protect Scottish salmon, one of my favourite tastes in fish. Typing that has made me feel hungry, looks like beans on toast again after buying too many stamps.

Received the scanned stiffener today which was protecting a Machin booklet of 10 None Value Indicators from February 1993. The stiffener contains some interesting information about Henry VIII & his reign from 1509 to 1547. I have just edited this post twice, due to my scanner doing its own thing again, which is a pity as the scan was supposed to be 2 x A4 sized scans of information rather than the 2 shown. Tried scanning twice but the scanner is breaking up the 2 pages into 7 different scans!!!!!!

I never thought that stiffeners would make such an interesting topic. I have received stamps from many places and for the most part it is a brown cardboard stiffener being used. When I receive any new stamps I have ordered I will be sure to pay more attention to the stiffener. I really enjoyed this thread. Nick

I was surprised to find this note card as a stiffener. It features the art of Katsushika Hokusai, 1760-1849, a noted Japanese artist. The work illustrated is entitled The Red Fuji and is from the artist's Thirty Six Views of Mt. Fuji.
Don StampHinger More in line with what I usually get are the following three commercial items cut from cartons and boxes:
