Central Post Office, Stockholm Bklt. pane of 5 each, # Sc 1084-1085 Violet brown
Thanks renden for the trip back to Stockholm. This is so different from the original Posthuset stamp, back in 1903 when they were matching the glory of post temples going up everywhere. Yours shows the building more as experienced, mailing a letter or paying a bill. It's also in its actual color. It's where Slania worked most of his career, where he was when he did this stamp in 1974. Today the building is just another office rental space, distinguished by its murals.
Makes me wonder what came of all the other huge post offices. So many must be repurposed by now. New York's Farley Building is extreme; a railway station. Geneva's is still a post office. That's almost as amazing. What of the others? The Berlin post office, I think it got the competition going? So many others?

Aaron @kasvik Thanks for the "history" comment - we need this at TSF....not just showing stamps and maps...... This was our P.O. in Edmundston, a wonderful corner building and as our Gov does, it destroys our old buildings of significance to replace them with "condo-like" facilities.....here a Woolworth store replaced the building......it does not exist anymore.....our future ? This link lists all the main old post office buildings in Berlin with their history and special features. It is a text in German, but with google translate etc. we are all becoming "multilingual"...

A little off-topic now, but since this is an interesting subject to me as well: Just noting that the James A. Farley Building in New York has not been fully repurposed. There's a shiny new railway station on the lower levels, and some of the upper levels are rented as office space - but the main lobby floor is still a functioning post office. You can mail a letter there; I've done it recently.

Thanks for the tour. Leaves no doubt; Berlin is extraordinary. The Stockholm Post building was inspired by the Berlin Postfuhramt. But the stamp looks inspired by Reichs Post Ministry stamp, an even greater colossus. There was no stopping these dreamers.

The mails were important to society then and needed an appropriate building. Not so much today.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Looking through my USA collection and I stumbled upon this strip of 5 4c coil stamps (Scott 843) from the Presidential definitives released in 1939. The main set came out in 1938 and based on Scott the coils came out a year later. This series had a long life running up to 1954. This strip has a 1952 postmark from what appears to be Huntsville, Alabama.

I’ve been catching up on soaking stamps from my incoming mail, which almost always yields a bounty of nice-looking multiples used for postage by the various stamp and cover dealers who mail things to me. Here’s a strip of five of Sc. 1312, the 1966 five-cent stamp commemorating the 175th anniversary of the Bill of Rights. Kind of a random year to mark an anniversary, but I love the design by the famous editorial cartoonist Herblock. Ball up your fists all you like, would-be tyrants: “The rights of the people shall not be violated.” Next to it is a pair of Sc. 1119, the 1958 four-cent stamp celebrating freedom of the press (which is enshrined in the Constitution through the Bill of Rights). These ones are a little worse for wear, with all kinds of spray-cancel marks on them, but I think the ink-stained look adds to the thematic appeal.

I am not sure if this issue belongs to this topic, since each stamp in this strip is distinct, but I am posting anyways -- UK, 2007: Harry Potter stamp set featuring the covers of the British editions of the 7 novels.

rod222 -- Oh! I thought 'se-tenant stamps' only refer to those that have graphic elements that stick together. For this one it's the white border that is shared by the adjacent stamps.

rod222......are you referring to coil strips ? 1969 was not the first Se-tenant strip from sheets. I believe that belongs to the Battle of Hastings in 1966. But I stand corrected !

Londonbus1 Hi Michael, well, you have opened a can of worms ! To be frank, I am now perplexed, Does "se tenant strip" mean the entire issue, of a set, is included in the strip? in that case perhaps I am correct, if not, then what about the "birds set" of 1966 Can a pair be considered a "strip" ? I went blindly believing the machins were the first, soley from this ebay listing years ago. FDC ? I too, shall stand corrected All I want is the end to be the truth, semantics no doubt will intervene Glad you gave me the "heads up" PS : I had discounted the stupid term "rare find" , perhaps that should have warned me PS: Looking at Mr. Gibbons, the 1965 "Battle of Britain" are explained as "an se tenant block of 6" Heads up : se tenant, search also with a hyphen se-tenant

rod222Terminology can differ from Country to country, continent to continent. Se-Tenant strip is of 3 stamps or more. A Se-Tenant strip can be from a sheet or Coil or even from a Miniature sheet if it contains enough stamps !! Your example could be correctly described as a 'Se-Tenant Coil Strip. I'd forgotten about the 1965 Battle of Britain issue which of course produced Strips of 3. So it's 1965 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Londonbus1
