What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This block from Luxembourg is a bit newer than I collect in my world wide but it is such a handsome stamp that I decided to keep these. It was issued in 1968 (Scott 473) and is called Luxair Plane over Luxembourg by Scott.

On Wednesday I acquired this attractive Welsh cylinder block (4d olive-sepia, 4 Sep 1968, SG W9 [Concise], or XW8 [Specialised]), exhibiting two interesting constant flaws (at least, they're interesting to those of us who are interested in such things). On the second stamp in the middle row, the dragon has a small blob on his head (XW8c). On the first stamp in the bottom row, the dragon has a big blob above his hind leg (XW8d).

These three events are all related to Southern Rhodesia and are separated by only a very few years: first is SG 61, the brown and green 2d. showing what is presumably one of the British South Africa Company paramilitary volunteers (BSAC-Police) - effectively Cecil Rhodes own private police, since Rhodes owned the Company - the stamp celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Occupation of Matabeleland. I'd imagine there were some raised eyebrows that this value was issued to celebrate what was in truth Rhodes roughshod push through Matabeleland against the wishes of the natives - and the fighting that ensued. following on with consecutive SG Nos. 62 and 63, we have the 'Royal Visit' pair issued in April 1947 - the 1/2d. and 1d. finally, the four 'Victory' values SG 64 to 67 - 1d., 2d., 3d. and 6d., from May 1947. Good clean blocks which arrived in with many other pieces of WW issues - hope of interest.

One of these images may be of use to Linda who was asking about HP information - no matter if not, and am sure everyone has seen these before: I understand that in France the The French Federation of Philatelic Associations have odd days in the year which they used to call 'Journee du Timbre', but are now called 'Fete du Timbre' - something like 'stamp days' perhaps. Anyway, the attached 'Fete du Timbre' block of ten is postmarked 2007 and showing three different characters from the books - since these are images of the actual actors, then these too are from one of the films. Not a clue as to how I came by these, don't normally collect C21 stamps. For comparison another picture showing film stills from the U.K. FDC issue of 2018.

I love early multiples of stamps in reasonably nice condition. This block of five 25 centesimo stamps is pretty decent for being over 130 years old!* It was mailed "registered" on September 28, 1899 by a business in Florence. Sent "Via Southampton" probably by steamer. It only took ten days to reach its destination in Detroit, Michigan after arriving in New York City the day before. The fifth stamp, unfortunately, was torn upon separating from the sheet before being affixed to the envelope. A minor detraction I can overlook. Like a famous cover dealer (recently departed) from " Down Under" used to say: " Show me another like it!" Even with modern jet planes I don't think a cover mailed nowadays would get delivered that fas, especially by regular mail! Luckily the block is still on cover, and it arrived in today's mail from one of my favorite dealers in Italian postal history. I love 19th century covers in nice condition! * Issued on March 21, 1893 according to Colnect

Love the Suid Afrika ones. Also love the profile pic lol The number for the "castles" is SG595 Current cat value is £10 sterling each for unmounted mint. If you find a used one with inverted watermark cat value is over £3000 sterling.

staying with the subject of postage dues ........... For whatever reason - am sure someone will enlighten me - GB didn't introduce separate stamps for unpaid or incorrect postage - 'postage dues' - until 1914, which surprised me, I'd assumed that other countries had a 'dues' system much earlier - perhaps my assumptions wrong. They interest me - quirky and often overlooked by collectors. Here is the yellow/orange 1/2d. - SG D35 from the 1951 - 52 dues, together with the emerald green 1/2d. - SG D1 for Southern Rhodesia - this latter little number I believe is an overprint on what was the GB postage due D27 from 1937 - 38, I think. The other picture shows the black £1 - SG D88 from 1970 - 75, so assume this is a decimal effort - together with the 1d. purple - SG D36, 1951 - 52 issues, again. Most issues/values are fairly easily acquired - aside from the obvious difficulties such as wmk. varieties, there's only one or two that irritate - the 1.1/2d chestnut - the 2/6d. purple yellow and 1/- bright blue.

paul1 - According to Wikipedia, France introduced postage due stamps in 1859. They seem so obviously useful that it's surprising not only that it took the UK so long to follow suit, but also that they were eventually abolished.
Here's a nice booklet pane, SG SB24c, issued in April 1954 to replace a much less common pane (SB23) issued the previous month, featuring some helpful instructions on its se-tenant labels. The watermark is Tudor Crown, and the reason its catalogue number is SB24c, not SB24, is that the stamp at the right exhibits the "dot in serif" constant flaw - in other words, there's a tiny blue dot in the large "1" at the left.
The trimmed perforations at the bottom reduce the commercial value, but I don't mind such traces of human imperfection. Could I have trimmed it better? No.

thanks Peadar Ruadh. Also known as 'Postage Due Labels' or 'To Pay Labels' - and like the French, I think the States were much ahead of us too - so what did the postal authorities in the U.K. do prior to 1914 I wonder, to reclaim an under funded postal item? I'm not heavily into 'fly specking', yet, but if it's Dorothy Wilding blocks you like here are a few more.

expect everyone has seen these many times over, but not sure if they've yet been included in the 'Blocks, Strips & Multiples ' heading. Football really not my thing, but trying to remember a little of what went on all those years ago at school, I'm wondering if that high foot is just a little too high and would result in a yellow card or penalty of some kind. Colour registration looks tad off possibly ............... the toe of that high foot shows a very small white area between it and the red shirt, and the guy in red appears to have a problem with a line of midriff showing - but mustn't be too serious - it's just a stylized image and not real. The plain stamp is SG 693 - 'Players with ball' .............. Winners is SG 700 - 'Cup Winners'

paul11966 World Cup winners...A once in a lifetime event.. I remember people going crazy trying to find the England Winners stamp. This stamp was supposed to rocket in value and would be a great investment.Sadly, this did not happen and today you can see hundreds of this stamp in clearance boxes or give-away boxes.
