At the recent Mid-Cities Stamp Expo in Grapevine Texas I purchased an extensive stock book of Texas poster stamps, cinderellas and other ephemera.
This thread is dedicated to showing what I found in those pages.
. . . .
Sheet of 15 items with margin at top (showing staple holes) which promote the community of West Texas
(not to be confused with geographic West Texas.) Note that one horizontal row is duplicated.
West is in McClennan County, some 80 miles south of Fort Worth on Interstate 35, about 10 miles north of Waco.

A colorful trio for the GREATER TEXAS & PAN AMERICAN EXPOSITION 1936
From our wikiFriends:
The Greater Texas & Pan-American Exposition was a World's Fair held at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas (USA). The exhibition promoted the city of Dallas as the cultural and economic capital of an emerging Pan-American civilization stretching from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska. It followed the successful Texas Centennial Exposition, which was held to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Texas in 1936. Every exhibition building constructed for the 1936 fair (except the Hall of Negro Life, which was demolished) were simply redecorated for the event, but most major exhibitors (such as General Motors, Ford and Chrysler) did not return in 1937. The event also included the Pan American Olympics, pitting the nations of North, Central, and South America against one another in a series of interracial contests and which led as a precursor for the eventual establishment of the Pan American Games.
The exhibition ran from June 12, 1937, through October 1937. The exposition failed to live up to expectations, attracting only 2 million visitors (compared to over 6 million for the Texas Centennial).

I stopped in West (the town) earlier this year to buy some kolaches. As for these, I truly believe they are referring to the region, not the community. You'll notice that the western region is shaded. In addition, there are no mountains in West. Also, Stamford is in Haskell County, which places it in West Texas (the opposite side of the Lone Star State from beautiful East Texas).

jpotx113 You are absolutely correct. Now that I look closely, I notice the tinted geographic area and the text inviting one to contact the West Texas Chamber of Commerce in Stamford Texas. I drove "through" the town of West, Texas twice going to and from last weekend's show in Grapevine. It is a Czech community with marvelous Czech bakeries. Thank you for making me look at my own material!

A set (likely missing 1) promoting the Lower Rio Grande Valley. I note a stamp showing most likely a Grapefruit tree as grapefruit dominate the citrus industry here.
A search of eBay and the internet turned up nothing in a search of Lower Rio Grande Valley stamps.

Just trying to group together several of the loose Cinderellas these from Brownsville on the US-Mexico border The bottom die-cut label I don't consider a Cinderella for my purposes with this collection. However I do include such in my Oranges pages. I don't think I've licked a hinge in 3 decades!

These two poster stamps featuring events from the siege of the Alamo were a mystery until I looked at the contents of one which neatly told the story, and more...

JeffS any idea how many of the attractions still exist? I live but an hour's drive from San Antonio but just been here for 4 years. Have driven to SA only 4 times. The Battle of the Flowers has been ongoing for a long time and still active today. Randolph Field became Randolph AFB, and I think it is now a commercial venue. The River Walk is a pedestrian tourist nightmare, and lined with restaurants. The Alamo is still a tourist draw; really downplayed in the stamp here. The remaining stamps appear to be a lot of tourist fluff.

This cover from McAllen Texas dated November 2 1916 was posted during the time of the Border Wars with Mexico. The flap was sealed by the sender with a cinderella stamp which reads THE SEVENTH AT THE BORDER. At first I thought that THE SEVENTH referred to the 7th Cavalry or similar. I found the appearance of an infantryman on foot was used for a cavalry unit kinda odd. I did find reference to a 7th Regiment online: "The 7th Regiment was the first New York unit to reach the border, arriving in Texas on July 2, 1916. Other units soon followed.
As the regiments arrived on the border the men went into camps in the towns of McAllen, Parr, and Mission. At McAllen, where the division headquarters and a brigade were stationed, the camp held 10,000 Soldiers and 3,500 horses and mules."Anyone familiar with this bit of history?

Thanks JeffS for the article. The mention at the beginning of the article of Pancho Villa led me to try to read it (I don't know English) In the end, it was very entertaining (it didn't follow the fights with Pancho Villa) with the description of the problems of adapting to the environment (lack of water, heat) and the "fights" against scorpions and snakes.

Texas promotional poster stamps, issued in a sheet of 30. I am missing but one, the upper-leftmost position. The overall size of a reconstructed sheet is larger than my album page. A copy of the complete sheet is shown in the third image.

It's OK, I probably have an unfair advantage over you when it comes to Sam Houston trivia.
1. I graduated from Sam Houston State University 2. I live in Houston County, the first state created in Texas (not to be confused with Houston, Texas which is in Harris County) 3. Sam and my cousin Virginia knew one another (Sam was in Washington during the 1850s during the same time as Virginia's husband, C.C. Clay, served there).

Moving on, we now come to Fort Worth's celebration of the Texas Centennial. Residents take pride in it's unofficial nickname, "Cowtown" which traces to it's meatpacking heritage in North Fort Worth. Image added

miles and miles of Texas and it seems you've as many cinderellas! I've enjoyed looking at them. My fathers family came to Caliofornia from Venus Tx. I went there once when I was maybe 4 or 5. I remember flat and drinking a Nehi soda on the back porch of my Great Aunts house (Aunt Beulah, a biblical name)

That was the first Blue Bonnet Festival. I don't believe they hold that anymore, but they did create the Navasota Blues Festival several years ago.
