Cuero used to have some kind of annual parade/festival where they would chase turkeys through the streets of town. On a side note, I saw the Cuero Gobblers play for the state high school football championship. I never knew until know that they are (or were) the turkey capital of the Lone Star State.

jpotx113 Yes the Cuero Turkey Trot, nicely promoted with an illustrated slogan postmark featuring a running turkey.

Grace Lutheran Sanatorium of San Antonio began issuing Christmas seals in 1922. khj earlier posted his fine collection of these in the Hospital Cinderellas thread for which I am truly grateful as it sent me on a search to see what I could find to fill out the years. I have been somewhat successful as one can see. (Or perhaps not very successful )
So I've added another search to my eBay searches. I've located two other lots of these online which will get me closer to that dreaded completion (collections are never complete, are they?) word. We'll see.
I have a third page, but without stamps, for the following years.

Here is a new page with die-cut, foil embossed (fill in the blank to your liking). Top item is black with gold lettering etc. Bottom is dark blue with silver lettering. Hard to see in the scan. I want to add, that in my opinion one should take care in spending, or over spending, on cinderellas on cover unless they are somehow postmark tied to the envelope. While these two covers look splendid with their flag cancels from smaller Texas communities, that they are addressed to the same M. W. Wilson, the philatelic inspiration is highly evident. This collection of Texas cinderellas I recently purchased had a few similar covers addressed the same. Now, did this Wilson adhere the labels to the envelope him(her) self before sending them off for the flag cancel. Or after they came back? Did someone else stick them on at a later time. Who knows... Personally I think these 2 covers have more interest in the flag cancels than the "stickers" (Sorry, couldn't help myself!) Other than having a "pretty factor" I wouldn't pay much more for these individually than I would for the single cinderella. But that's just my 2-cents worth.

Interesting JeffS, 1935 cancellations and 1936 stickers.... Rob Sharp eye Rob. At one time I contemplated giving these the benefit of the doubt that perhaps these were distributed in advance of the event, a promotion as it were. However I do have one cover with a postmark date a few months before the known date of sale of another cinderella. I have no information about the issue date of these two examples. None the less I am highly certain that these were added after the fact. Perhaps these are listed in a cinderella catalog or article with production information.

Humorous Texas Town Names
Can anyone tell me the creator of these humorous town name cinderellas? I know of one more named Gasoline which is in the Texas Panhandle. Twin sisters is only 25 miles from my home. It is an area of twisty blacktop and is a fun drive for car and motorcycle adventures. I am unable to turn up any identification online except for similar listings for other states.

And here's another trio from SAN ANTONIO. The eBay seller listed these three and two others, one at a time. As they came up so did the prices, I missed out on the first listing as well as the last which featured golfing.
I still need to incorporate both these posts into my pages.

Hi Jeff:
John Coulthard was the artist that drew the images on these labels. He was a well-known philatelic artist and cachet maker of the 1930s/1940s. You would also see his work as artist for stamp dealer Elmer Long's ads in Stamps Magazine. He did his own cachets for many small California towns and also for FDCs for the Washington Press and a patriotic series for Cachet Craft Covers during WW II.
Western Stamp Collector published and sold those labels. There was a first series of 20 numbered labels in 1938 followed by a second set in 1939 that continued the numbering to make a total of 40. There is also a single label out there numbered 00 that doesn't belong to either set.
Difficult and more expensive to make up a complete set by trying to buy them individually as they appear. Complete sets, while not plentiful are available on eBay. One recently sold for $39.95.
Don StampHinger
Edit: The towns for this series are nationwide, but Coultdhard liked unusual California town names best. He was from California, lived in Modesto.

stamphinger Thank you for the helpful and timely information. Shortly thereafter I conducted an eBay search and found an auction for the sets of 41 on cover from the appropriate town. The auction was closing in a few hours and with no bids. I placed a snipe bid which was successful against no other bids. Quite a purchase just to grab the Gasoline Texas example.

My Texas PHILATELY page has expanded to two pages with the addition of a card with a 1956 Houston TPA Convention on card, and a small sheet of 8, Precancel Society Convention from 1994, San Antonio.

Bay City new to the collection. Kinda disproves the notion that things are "bigger" in Texas.

A recent addition, for the Fort Worth Frontier Fiesta celebration, a similar name for the Fort Worth Frontier Centennial of 1936.
Edit: Actually the Frontier Fiesta was a staged event at the Casa Manana theatre in Fort Worth.
A definite candidate for the most attractive Texas poster stamp.

This oval die cut cinderella for the Texas Centennial by Volk Department Store in Dallas recently acquired. Not an easy subject to photo being silver foil with a white background.

I haven't added anything new in a while:
Yorktown is a town some 75 miles east of San Antonio which had a fair activity called LITTLE WORLD'S FAIR. This ran from 1920 to 1949 according to Mr. Wiki. It has been superseded by an event called Yorktown Western days.
