What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

An absolute must for the Camel collector; SudanI have the usual pile of misfit stamps from kiloware and old collections and so on, perhaps 250 stamps or so from the Sudan. But I don't recall ever seeing those horizontal format air mail stamps before, so I assumed they were something with relatively high catalogue values. I had a look and a number of them are minimum catalogue value - those stamps will have to go on my list along with the 1.40 Pta Franco head from Spain, minimum value stamps that I never see! Ryan

Ryan Yes, they are particularly handsome stamps. They have a very "soft" look for engraved stamps due to the very fine lines. Some beauties from Mauritania today, another Camel lovers country. As usual the first page and some other favorites are shown.

Except for a for some recent issues I have not added anything to my U.S. collection for 8 years 1 month and 21 days, until now. Too one of my favorite sets I've just added the 1871 6 cent Washington shown below. Also in the small lot was a cleaner copy of it's bigger $2 brother, of the same set (third issue). The single stamp scans shown here are a bit smaller than the new scans I am making for major countries to show each stamp type in high detail (1200 dpi). I will only be going up to around the time that countries stopped with engraved stamps, but not much past the 1930's. So far I have only completed the Regular issues for GermanyThis is a task I will never finish but I will do what I can. The countries chosen will be those that most frequent my site Also shown below are a couple other of the all newly scanned U.S. Revenue pages Only the revenues have been scanned, I have yet to scan the rest on that index page.

Jeff, I have to agree. U.S Revenues are probably my top favorite in all the world of stamps! Today, my one and only page of Shanghai

Today a weak showing of SomalilandThis one I've never concentrated on so it is not up to snuff with most of the rest of the world. As in any of my showings if you see something I need, that you have extras of, please let me know and we can, possibly, work out a trade. Shown is the first page and one other of the total of 5 in the collection.

Having seen the second issue being mentioned in another thread, I thought I'd have a look at mine. I never remembered having any info on them to know if mine were good or not. Also I did not have the single page of the issuer on my website. I couldn't find that single page in my collection after looking through the usual suspects. What I did find are duplicates I had in my duplicate files. They are on a Scott specialty page and look good. Guess I'll hold on to them until I find the others if they even exist. Page of the day North Ingermanland

A little small for detailed analysis, but the second issue appears to be good.

Jeff, Thanks for the link very beautiful stamps, none of which I will probably ever have so it's nice at least to see pics. I do have a quite a few auction color cats from Siegel and others that feature Revenues, Match and Medicines, proofs essays and the like. I drag them out every once in a while to have a look at all that beautiful stuff that is beyond my reach. Jim, I don't know about the first issue but the one stamp of the second issue showed me enough to believe mine were good. The paper color was the main indicator but there were several small details in the stamps you showed that were also helpful with the I.D. Today another new one I just added to my site. Instead of page or pages of the day this one is just a stamp of the day but the only one from this stamp issuing entity, Terra del Fuego. I gleaned the info from several articles on the web but if any one has any corrections to make or additional info, it would be welcome. Click on link to see full page with info.

Today I am showing a page that I have just completed but had been wondering if I ever would. The stamp is the one in the mount and I had never even seen it before, in fact I was starting to doubt Scott as to wether it existed or not. It is nearly identical to the stamp on it's left side. The major difference is how the top "100" aligns with the "1899" below it. On the first stamp the last zero in the top "100" aligns with the right side of the numeral 9. On the second stamp the right side of the zero aligns with the left side of the numeral 8. There are several other minor difference but that alignment is what I had been looking for, for so many years. I spotted it in a lot of 457 stamps, all but four, from Brazil . ranging from 1884 to 1920. Also in the lot were a few other stamps I needed plus several shade varieties of that period I did not have. I added 8 more stamps to my already bloated page of the 1890 Southern Cross issueI'm starting to think there are an infinite number of shades to this issue. No doubt some are just faded but most have markedly different hues. Anyway it was a fun lot and I am still trying to ID some of the watermarks.

Mitchell: I second Firstfrog's comment about your knowledge. Very impressive!
Just to let you know, I think you have a comma at the end of your link to the Southern Cross page.

Frog and Phil, Thanks much for the kind words. As to stamp tidbits, those along with the catalog numbers of stamps, I need, I often wonder if there is any free space left in my memory banks. At least I have narrowed down the number of stamps I need, which greatly helps when I am searching for the ones I don't have. I don't consider myself an expert in any one area but think I can hold my own with any other world collector. If you don't have the stamp in your hands you really can't know it, that well. I don't know what was wrong with that link but I had to try several times to get it to work. It works now but I might as well just show the page here. I think it is a really kewl issue and they are fairly inexpensive.

I always like those bi-coloreds from the Latin American countries, but especially like those early Panama maps and those 1930's airs.
Quite a nice selection, Mitchell, as always!

Dave, Yep the maps are pretty nifty except for all those nasty ovpts. The missing pages of them I don't show as they are rather spotty. As I think you know, I'm not fond of overprints and repetition but then again, I never come across them. Today Lombardy-Venetia Before being annexed by Italy, Lombardy-Venetia was a kingdom and part of the Austiran Empire. The stamps are easily confused with the first issues of Austria but can be easily distinguished by the currency. Cents and Soldi by the L.V. and Kreuzer (Kr) by Austria .

Mitchell -- I agree with you about overprints. I'm not fond of sinking money into them, unless they're absolutely necessary to complete something or are inexpensive. There's such a problem with faking them, especially on Japanese Occupation material, that I try not to go there. I have a few that have passively ended up with me, but I have not usually sought them out.
And, to me, much of the joy in the early airs is the exuberance of the design, such that just overprinting an existing stamp kind of takes the fun out of it. (Although there are some great and stylish air overprints for some countries.)
