What I collect: Cinderellas and some Ephemera from Great Britain, France and Israel plus a few beautiful bits from elsewhere !! Topical interests include Flags & Judaica, the latter with an emphasis on the Jewish National Fund.

This one is called the Aleph Bet issue and it's from the German Central Office in Berlin. This 1945 issue is a reprint of an earlier Head Office set from the same year, one of which was shown previously in Yellow and Light Brown. This part set from Germany appears to be a much poorer printing to my eye. Each set of 28 was issued in booklets in colours purple and dark blue. Perf 11.

The stamp shown here is from the 1st Diaspora issue of 1943. Printed in Jerusalem by the Keter Publishing Company, it is one of a long set in different colours and designs and found in Se-Tenant sheets of 40. Long considered to be the best of Jewish National Fund issues and hence harder to find and costly ! The stamps show Jewish Life in the Diaspora during World War II. The central design is surrounded by the Twelve Tribes. Perf 10½. Previously shown in our Newsletter. The cost of these first Diaspora issues makes it difficult to form a collection. Finding them on cover and used during the Minhelet Ha'am period in 1948 even more so. At an auction a couple of days ago, these issues on cover sold for well over catalogue prices. They usually do. Jewish Fishermen in Salonika Port, Greece.

1953 issue from the New York Office. Israel Tree Fund for Tu B'shvat. (the fifteenth day of the month of Sh'vat). Traditionally the holiday is about trees and fruit, both planting and eating ! In our village, the children would gather with their parents or teachers to populate a small area with new trees or add to other areas. Families would plant a tree in their garden. The stamp shown (in brown) also exists in green and dull green (both 5c) and was issued in booklets of 5 panes of 3x2 of the same value. Perf 12½

Special JNF receipts were produced both in Palestine/Israel and abroad for contributions made to certain projects. They are hard to find, some are hugely attractive and are sought after as a sideline to the Stamps and tags. The one below is from the United States for a $5 contribution towards land redemption and purchase. It was issued in 1947. There are other valued receipts in this series.
