You would have to guess they are from Ukraine, Admin, possibly propaganda cinderella issues. I've not come across them before.
Weird that you should post them, on a day when the Ukraine has just signed a huge deal with Russia on cheap gas, and a defecit loan with the Kremlin. Still lots of unrest there.

Are TSF members able to assist with this one, I'm done, Googled for hours. Beginning in 1904, a series of books were published under the general title "Makers of American History." These went through many reprintings and were intended to introduce young readers to the "great man" theory of American history; (I don't think any women were included). I suspect, though not sure, that stamps like the one you have were added in one of the later editions or were promotional. Best guess, but not sure. Wilson, of course, didn't make it into the 1904 edition.

Makers of American History. Ahh! stoltzpup, you are a lifesaver. Yes, I saw so many references to the books in my Google boogie, I failed to see the link. I think you have it, anyhows, I shall use your words on my album page. Thanks. (Curious though, if this is the case, the series is not more widely broadcast / available on ebay etc) Mine date to 1942 circa.

Okay, here's one. I spent a few minutes with Google and got nowhere. Anyone? April, 1935, voyage of Manierre, on a numbered sheet: Here is a detail of the "stamp" itself: [click to enlarge images]

As an aside, I can't figure out why I can't find the ship. My Google-fu must be glitchy.

I have a feeling it's a complete and recent fabrication - a fantasy stamp. Looks nice though. Any details about when you obtained it? The Bestway Publishing Company might do private printings, such as fantasy stamps. Though this does not fit their core business model which seems to be text editing, but they do say they print books and other materials. They could esily have that outsourced.

It has been in my possession about 48 hours, so it is at least that old. I can't vouch for it much past that, though.
It was in an envelope with the 1936 Santa Monica 4th annual club installation sheet that I posted last night on another thread [Philatelic Exhibitions ----U.S.A.]. Both have somewhat similar serial numbers, and similar papers, and could have been produced by the same company. The line perfing is not completely precise on either one.
Neither of them really seems recent, but I can't say.
I'm giving up on the ship. Anyone see any significance to the map that might give a clue?
I'm now leaning toward something like the 'Sabor of the Midland' cinderellas produced in 1933 for Russ Sabor's retirement. (For those who don't know the story, Russ was a stamp collector and when he retired from his company, Midland, he asked for a set of cinderellas to be produced, in lieu of a gold watch, or some other trinket.) I'm thinking that sounded like a good idea to a stamp collector named Manierre.
That's my theory for now. Other theories, or contradictory information, are welcome.

The fact that it was in with another commemorative sheet from 1936 is significant, especially if the papers are similar. I did a bit more digging. The 1936 Santa Monica sheet checks out, as it is in the Fields Picklo listing. There was also a Bestway Publishing Company that operated in Los Angeles in the 1930's. It printed the bestseller "Mountain Cabins of Redwood" in 1934! So in light of that, I now feel the Manierre sheet is authentic from that period. Couldn't find any more details on Manierre, or the voyage. But what I find strange is the line running right through the US in the map on the stamp. I wonder if that means something? Maybe the commemorative voyage was from Chicago to Los Angeles or vice-versa, and the ship and whale are simply for decoration.
There was an American abstract artist - Manierre Dawson (1887-1969) - who was born in Chicago, but lived most of his life in Michigan. Maybe he decided to take that CA-LI-FOR-NIA trip down route 66 in '35. Just a thought..

Maybe the commemorative voyage was from Chicago to Los Angeles or vice-versa, and the ship and whale are simply for decoration. I wondered that as well. There was a George Manierre, who was prominent in the early history of Chicago, who left New York in 1835 to settle in Chicago. But that only would explain the segment of the line running from New York to Chicago and mark the 100th anniversary of his departure. I couldn't find any subsequent linkage of a familial branch migrating south and then west.

This will likely be something similar to trading stamps, perhaps you could call them rebate stamps. In DDR times, co-operatives (Konsum) were popular, and in Zeulenroda there were a number of different shops linked together in the co-op. There are a number of photos on Flickr showing some Konsum shops a couple of years after the German reunification. They're likely gone by now, former DDR towns have undergone massive changes in the time since reunification (I first went to Saxony in 1993 and saw all kinds of Wartburgs and Trabants driving on the roads, but I didn't see a single old DDR car on my last trip there in 2009). Anyway, a number of Konsum shops in Zeulenroda, 1993 photos, here, here, here & here. When you made a purchase at one of the shops you would get a trading stamp which could be stuck into a booklet and returned for a cash rebate - according to this German-language Wikipedia page on co-op trading stamps, the rebate was about 1.8%. A couple of different trading stamps are shown on that page, and I'm assuming that this is what you have. I don't see any examples online of your exact design, but here's another photo of some other co-op trading / rebate stamps. Ryan

This was a collector's label that came in a package of cigarette papers from a company in Austria named Abadie. The series of flags and coats of arms was huge, nearly 4000 different labels. There's excellent coverage of the labels on this heraldry website from Holland. Your label can be found in the Deutsche Städtewappen (II) section. Ryan

While I don't know for certain, it is likely that these stamps were produced by the entity responsible for planning Philadelphia's sesquicentennial celebration of the U.S. Constitution. The Constitutional Convention convened in Philadelphiia on May 14, 1787 and the Constitution was signed on September 17 of that year. While the national celebration was planned to commence on September 17th, Philadelphia began its celebration at Independence Hall on May 14th with Mayor Wilson presiding.

Thought I'd air this one again. It was many moons ago I posted this pic and had little success with answers. This is not in my collection, I was outbid on this item at over $22 some years ago. I have never seen another. I don't normally post items I haven't scanned , but this one has had me in a 'curiouser and curiouser' state for seemingly all my life !! Londonbus1....sigh ! It's just beautiful. This looks like a Gerald King creation.

Ryan In a lot I bought many years ago was a stockbook of over 3,000 of these Abadie labels. I just checked the heraldry website mentioned above and it has a fantastic illustrated listing of these. I was able to finally find the rest of the Denmark related ones and pull them out of the stockbook for my own collection. Now I have to figure out the best way to market the rest of the lot (still over 3,000 of them).

Cancelled in Denmark, but the label itself is Faroese, with the flag of the Faroes and the horizontal stroke through the "D". Ryan Thanks Ryan, Interesting conundrum, the Faroese at that time were a Danish "amt" state? not self governing, I would have thought appropriate under Denmark, but Scott catalogue confirms your advice. This stamp is listed in the AFA catalog of Nordic Christmas Seals. It was issued in the Faroes ( Føroyar / Færøerne ) in 1941. The text is in Faroese which is similar to Icelandic but not quite the same. The text (as near as I can figure) is "Aid for the Fatherless". The stamp is in the section for Childrens' charities ( Barnahjálpin / Børnehjælps-Fonden ) and is the first seal issued. The catalog has the following notation after this stamp: "Privately released charity stamp, the collection for the benefit of fatherless children. The collection, is carried out by a group of Faroese in Denmark". It exists on white paper and on yellowish paper, and is found perforated 11½x11½. The 2012 c.v. is DKK300 (around US$55) although their catalog values do tend toward a high retail price. Since all Faroes mail at this time went through Denmark, this cancellation is not unusual.
