Thought I'd air this one again. It was many moons ago I posted this pic and had little success with answers. This is not in my collection, I was outbid on this item at over $22 some years ago. I have never seen another. I don't normally post items I haven't scanned , but this one has had me in a 'curiouser and curiouser' state for seemingly all my life !! Londonbus1....sigh ! It's just beautiful.

While I can't say with 100% certainty, I would wager that the sheet was produced by the cachetmaker House of Farnum for distribution at the Celebration of the Centennial of the First Adhesive Postage Stamp that was held May 2–6, 1940, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. The program was sponsored by the Washington Philatelic Society, the American Philatelic Society, and the National Federation of Stamp Clubs. My assumption is based upon information provided in Charles A Fricke's article (American Philatelist/June 2011). The below image of the May 6, 1940 cover appeared in the AP article -- the words "First Day Cover" aside, the cachet is a replica of the sheet.

Here are 4 that I got in a miscellaneous lot recently. The rest of the lot was just some mint common us and these beauties. As an American fan of the Royal Navy, that used to be, this intrigues me. All of these ships served in WWII but the King George V was commissioned during the war and the rest of the ships were scrapped soon after the war so that dates these sometime 1940 - 1945. I would love to get the full sheet. Anyone have any info on these?

Steve, thanks for the link. I did a search on bidstart and ebay for polystamps, but no results. I will keep my eyes open for them. I have only just seen this but I can tell you that blocks of 8 of each in Red and Blue sold last week on eBay for £5.50 each. If I had seen this sooner I would have given you the heads up ! Sorry. But they do appear quite often so keep looking. Londonbus1

Londonbus, My dad gave me an old circuit book for my birthday the other day. It has three different GB Cinderella sets that I have not seen before and was hoping to get some info on them. The first set is quite long with 60 stamps. The second set of 12 is represented in 3 different colors, Black, Henna Brown and a blue one that is shown. The last set of 4 is a rather typical looking expo set. Any info on history, scarcity and value would be appreciated. The first set shown came in a full sheet of 60 with margins all round plus inscriptions. They were printed by Harrison & sons Ltd for Parkshaw Publishing of Finsbury Park, London. The sheet came folded in an envelope and cost 1/-. A label was attached to the envelope. Over 200,000 sheets were printed and they were also distributed in Canada where the outer envelope was inscribed 25c !! [Colonial Distributors, Toronto] A similar set [also printed by Harrisons] was issued by the Vallancey Press Ltd, London but the labels had violet borders instead of brown. Sheets of either in good condition are rare due to Perforation splitting and would sell for around $50 or more. Most often they are found in single sets [like your set] for around a third of that price. Singles go for 99c on eBay regularly. The next lot of labels, 'Coronation Souvenirs of the King's Regalia'[also celebrating the KGVI Coronation] were designed by a T.A. Chaplin for Mr.Albert Harris after it was decided not to issue a Postage stamp for the Coronation [later the Post office had a change of heart !!]. Printed by Harrison & Sons ltd in sheetlets of 12 with plain margins all round. Six colours: Red,Blue,Green,Black,Mauve and Brown. These also came in an envelope with an information sheet. I purchased a full set with information sheet in 2011 for £29 and a full set including the envelope sold for £37 on eBay yesterday. The last 4 labels were printed in the USA by Stamp Dealer J.W.Nicklin by Typography in sheets of 15 [perf 15 or Imperf]. They were used for publicity purposes. Super design. The 'market' price for these is £5 [$8] each label and they can go for any amount just above or below that figure for the perfed labels. The only Imperf set I have ever seen is in my collection courtesy of a SCF forum member !! The London International Stamp Exhibition was held in Grosvenor House, London. Hope this helps. Londonbus1

OK this thread got me thinking. I have a few that I just never researched and know really nothing about? The one on top is folded but the others are ok.

Bus, Wow thanks so much for the detailed info!!! Glad to hear the set is complete. With 200,000 sets printed I'm surprised I cannot recollect seeing them before. I cannot help but wonder what the survival rate of these type of things might be. I'll just put them up on some Black stock sheets and add them to a binder.

A number of labels were issued including these in a set of 4 [can scan tomorrow] for the 1st Hobby and Collectors show at the Rockerfeller Centre, New York in 1934. Borders are all in blue, centres in Turquoise,Pink,Light Green and Orange. Plenty of central colour shifts on these. Sell for between $4-$10 depending on condition. In my opinion, a poorly designed label.

...and since you brought it up (unidentified cinderellas, that is), any of you Brits or GB experts able to give my any history on this one? The cause is relatively self explanatory I suppose, but tell me more. Is it a set?

Thanks Stampgeezer. I wasn't sure as I found some very similar when checking logos and that part of the design is too small to decipher. More logical though given the design. Thanks Londonbus1

Denmark with "Cobenhavn" spelling December 1942 SON. Cancelled in Denmark, but the label itself is Faroese, with the flag of the Faroes and the horizontal stroke through the "D". Ryan

Ryan Thanks Ryan, Interesting conundrum, the Faroese at that time were a Danish "amt" state? not self governing, I would have thought appropriate under Denmark, but Scott catalogue confirms your advice.

Steve, thanks very much for that link to the Poster Stamp Bulletin. I noticed the ones for Grand Coulee Dam and State of Washington in some of the 1937 issue. Those I will be looking for! And those WWII issues sure look interesting. Theron.
