daniel HALIFAX ISLAND Hi Daniel, Checked RSA Postmarks and Namibia Postmarks...Nothing So this remains unsolved. I wrote to South African Philatelists, and they confirm no Post Office adj to Halifax Island, I was encouraged to look at Canada Part response. (received with gratitude) Hi Rod Pondering over your question I suspect that you are looking at the guano wars when different countries were harvesting the many metres thick guano on the islands off the SWA coastline. I am recounting from memory, which may not be sharp anymore. The workers stayed on the island and the mail was collected when food was brought every so often (weeks?) and taken to Luderitz where is was sent on the next ship. Sometimes the workers negotiated for the next guano ship to take the mail directly. I vaguely recount that I saw an article in the last couple of years. (me) For interest : The guano on Halifax Island was 120 feet thick !

Further confirmation on HALIFAX ISLAND (from an Namibian perspective)
Author "Danie" The SWA guano islands were never involved in a guano war, that was all in South America involving Spain and South American countries. The major publication on the islands is Lawrence Green’s “At Daybreak for the Isles”.
The guano operation had it headquarters in Luderitz. The Gamtoos ship did a six week turn around journey. All post was handled through Luderitz. There is a minor Island called Halifax. The main Island was Possession which had a little settlement of workers but no official postal facility. Ichaboe also had a settlement for temporary workers. There are a host of other islands, including “Plum Pudding Is”.
There will be no island postmarks unless someone manufactured one like they did for Marion Island. Not much more to say. Kind regards,
(me) the author had family links to the harvesting of Guano, so the info is rock solid.
Sincere appreciation to "Alex" and "Danie"
So the search goes on for the next "HALIFAX ISLAND" if there is one.
