Here is another oddity. Scott 442 "Canada Stamp" Looks like the factory is out on the lake and not land...Srange Robert Another possibility. The Ottawa River is subject to Spring flooding. The factory could be submerged in high water levels!

The more I look at that Musk Ox stamp the weirder it seems, but not the cents location so much as it looks like a musk ox head mounted on a wall.

Here is a error that was known but placed on the 1897 "John Cabot" Scott 62 stamp on purpose. There was NO painting/drawing of John Cabot, so Canada Post allowed the stamp to be printed with Sebastian Cabot, John Cabot's SON.

Robert That's not him? Blow me over! This is worse than the modest lie of America's 1898 Cattle in a Storm. Royal Mail Canada's hoary dignity--and dozens of casual repetitions--had me completely confusedly convinced and complicit. To their misleading credit, the miscreants finessed the deception by omitting a first name. I guess that kept 'em out of court.

Kasvik..Could you explain deeper... """This is worse than the modest lie""" Robert
he inscription on the 2 C. denomination stamp above is actually true. It shows a portrait of "CABOT", but not of "John Cabot". The portrait shown on the stamp is actually from a painting of his son, Sebastian Cabot (1477-1557), by Hans Holbein the Younger (1498-1543).

Among the stamps from the Arab Emirates giveaway of renden were these two stamps from Fujeira, part of a series on scouts on the one hand and animals on the other. Strangely enough, the animal's name is given in French, and in these two cases, mislabeled one for the other:

This is worse than the modest lie of America's 1898 Cattle in a Storm. Hey, Aaron! I am just catching up on some threads today, and I noticed that Robert ( WERT) tried to tag you back in late April for a response about your comment highlighted in the quote above. Are you willing to elaborate on this?

I think I can answer that one, the 1898 US classic “Western cattle in a Storm” is a lie !
The engraving is a straight copy of a painting of Scottish cattle ………..5000- 6000 miles away from the US mid west.
Painted in 1878 by Scottish artist John MacWhirter it is titled “the Vanguard” and was actually used for advertising without the permission of the painting’s owner Lord Blythswood.

He is an oddity if you look hard at this Scott 272 Canada stamp. Here are 2 guys cutting down trees in a forest. The guy on the left has just fell a huge tree and is running away from it.
Now why would he not yell at his buddy to beware..For his safety. Know what i mean..

Western Cattle is--if I have it right--an innocent misapplication. There seems to be agreement on that. The Cabot family thing was done in full knowledge, and without acknowledgment. Quite naughty of the American Banknote Company. But something was in the air; the two stamps came out a year apart, both designed by Raymond Ostrander Smith. Neither are among my favorites; too much bull, versus scary Sebastian.

Here is a oddity that is NOT a variety, but does happen. Here are a Scott 498 and 140 that has an ink splatter. You can identify them after the ink dries, that causes a ring around the outer surface. Robert
