Is it just me or do others find the classic bi-colors captivating?
Sadly, my only bi-color Belgium parcel post stamp is this 1 franc violet brown & orange, perf. 15 from the 1902-1914 issue (Scott Q42).

I was about to post this one to get your expert opinion, when I found it in the catalogue. 1946 SC#367 King Leopold III with a -10% surcharge. Got to admit I've never seen that before! Signified a reduction in postal rate.

King Leopold has a few tricky Opts to look out for. I may have them duplicated, if so, I'll pop 'em in with your Spain. I really enjoy my Belgium, I think I prefer my collections in "used" the postmarks add a certain enjoyment.

Belgium: A nice PictorMark. Belgian Queen Consort Louise-Marie, (Scicilian) and a Queen of the "Right Stuff", by all accounts a lovely Queen, sadly succumbed to Tuberculosis.

Issued for Stamp Day in 1988. SC #1286 Based on a painting 19th Century Postman, by James Thirar. I like the little dog down on the left-hand side. But what really made this stamp stand out in the big pile of Belgium stamps I was going through was the curved frames at the top and bottom of each frame. Don't think I've ever seen that before. I imagine using the frame as a design element has been used on other stamps, just that I've never noticed it before.

The below quote was taken from an article by Henry Gitner Philatelists titled " Belgium Imperfs and Belgium Proofs." I saw one sale offering that also identified the stamp as Michel 89v but I don't have that catalog to verify its accuracy.

Belgium Proving cover for Etiquette PRIOR Aooo Prior stamp adhered, identification of the butterfly / moth non existant but designers name prominent. Icon on stamp Globe and number "1" Marijke Meersman was born in Temse on April 9th 1965 . She is an illustrator and works of Flemish, Dutch and German publishers of children's books . She attended college in figure drawing, printmaking and publicity. From 1996, she started create her own studio . Customs opened cover in transit, and covered the stamp with sellotape, I'll remove with white spirits. No customs flyer / explanation enclosed.

Agree, Belgium, Austria, Germany, perhaps Luxembourg, still dignify their postal services with care and attention. Australia sadly, is a basket case, the water is way above the Plimsoll line on the ship, and it's about to sink.

A couple interesting Belgian pieces I just picked up. A vertical pair circa 1941 with attached advertising labels...both Roode Pillen, but the top label is for men and the bottom label is for women. And then a specimen American Bank Note imprint block for the 1920 Olympic 5c+5c issue: The red gives it a nice little pop, don't you think?

I think your colour variety is just lead oxide from pollutants containing sulphur. I certainly can't see an excuse for a second ink colour on an engraved stamp normally printed in a single colour, and I can also see some discolouration on other areas of your closeup scan of the stamp (the "B" is tinted as is the frame and the heavily inked portion of his jacket). If I'm right, then hydrogen peroxide will remove much of the discolouration.
This type of thing is most often seen on older red, orange and yellow stamps, but brown contains both red and yellow so it could easily be affected also.

Ryan A well thought out, and considered response Ryan, normally, I would have agreed, however , we both benefit from specialised Catalogue advice from the Countries master Philatelists......... (The value of having good reference material) The noted "variety" in the "Officiele catalogus" sadly, does not give a reason why the "white" was added, which is very curious, I'll need to find a Belgian Blogger specialist, to ask unless members here know any Belgian Specialists.

Circa 1960's Stamp Shop mixture in cellophane, weathering well. Circa 1950's How collectors once collected their duplicates. Sc#150 Opinion: Move 'em on, give them away or sell for beginners. Circa 1950's Chemin de Fer Livestock Labels. (Would these be listed anywhere?) A lovely quadriga of Sc#Q11 (CV $72 each) with handsome cancellations. "If it looks too good to be true, it generally is" Counterfeits Perf 14½ x 13¾
