This is my latest acquisition for my library The "Bible" of Norwegian Philately Those of you who know me from other forums know I am as much a collector of specialized catalogues as I am of stamps - I love having all the added details about varieties that specialized catalogues provide. This is the bookshelf where I hold all my hard copy catalogues (apologies for the blurry picture, combination of cell phone, shaky hand and difficult to get at location for picture all involved). I am moving a bit more into online catalogues as space is starting to become an issue, but for most specialized catalogs there is no online alternative. Anyways, here is the full holdings of my philatelic library. I probably should seek professional help here, catalogs are becoming an addiction for me Online Catalogues/Downloads

To date, none of my Plate 5 copies of the stamp are from the elusive First State variety.
I will keep looking though...

Moderator Note: With the agreement of the author of this post in the Whatcha Been Stamping? thread ( djcmh ), this post has been moved to this subject-specific thread so that it can be more easily found for future reference.
On another philatelic front I treated myself to a late Christmas gift (thank you stimulus check) and it arrived from Istanbul earlier this week (was shipped via UPS, but was delayed in Turkey due to heavy volume of shipping traffic over the holidays, so took about 3 weeks to get here).
2021-2022 edition of the specialized İsfila Stamp catalog for Ottoman Empire and Turkey. It is bilingual in English and Turkish (I read Turkish fairly well as I specialized in Late Ottoman and Modern Turkish history in Grad School) and has lots of wonderful varieties not to be found in Scott, Michel or other catalogues. I have the 2014 edition still, and once I reach the 50 post level and become official member here, I might put it up for sale here.

First of all, I wanted to give this thread a bump to call members' attention to the previous post by djcmh , which I moved here from the Whatcha thread. And while I'm at it, I did get some nice philatelic books for Christmas this year, including Put A Stamp On It by Herman Herst, Jr. This book was a gift from my thoughtful wife, and I hope to start reading it sometime in the near future....

This recently arrived - ordered off his website - very promptly sent - should help me in distinguishing the many forgeries in my Fiume collection. Also ordered Azerbaijan SSR catalogue from Zagorsky and Antichi Stati Italiani from Sassone. The Zagorsky is currently stuck in the US somewhere but hopefully will find it's way north of the border soon...

Very nice, Greg ( gmot )! I look forward to hearing more about your experiences with the book. Perhaps you will favor us with some posts in a Fiume thread or a Genuine or Forgery thread as you make your way through and learn what's what. I have quite an accumulation of Fiume, including some nice stamps I got from René ( renden ), so I will get there eventually and will be trying to figure out what I have, too. I will be very happy to hear your review of the book and if it ends up being a worthwhile investment for you. Best of luck with it... I am a big fan of Fiume!

Will try to do so certainly - so far the book is very informative - Fiume is one of the few areas I've kept collecting since I decided to downsize my scope...

Many thanks for your comments on the Fiume forgeries vs. genuine question, Morten ( classicalstamps). I was going to contact you about this, but you have anticipated me! I am very glad to hear that Ivan has also contributed to your site. I definitely consider your site as a "go-to" for forgery-vs-genuine comparisons, and when I do get to my Fiume accumulation, I will be using it for sure! Thanks again for your post!

I also like collecting & browsing through interesting catalogues, almost as much as collecting stamps some days.
Your site has been very useful for a number of countries, much appreciated!

I do not specifically collect the Channel Islands, but there's some good info on obliterations as well as some interesting history, and for !8.00 delivered , I couldn't pass it up! I am in serious need of more shelf space! I may need to put US/UN back in boxes

I used to have a copy of that Channel Islands book. Mow where did I put it, or did I give it away?
I think it may have ended up with the Friends of the Brighton Public Library group.

It’s been interesting following this thread. You have some interesting books! Some of your libraries are quite extensive compared to mine. I started stamp collecting with Samuel Grossman’s book. Then added a Unitrade catalogue decades later! More recently I was an ATA member briefly around 2015 and picked up a couple of books on Topical stamp collecting and “Christmas stamps of the World “. I also had access to some of their stamp lists for my textile/handwork collection. I left the ATA when I was downsizing and preparing to move, which I knew would take a while. In the end it was two years before I could get back to my stamping. The past few months I’ve picked up Van Dam’s 2017 “The Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue”, “The New Specialized Catalogue of Canada Post Official First Day Covers”, “Centennial Definitive Series 1967-1973”, “The Standard Canada Pre-cancel Catalogue”, and “Fundamentals of Philately”. That’s it. That, and my 2015 Unitrade catalogue, forms the extent of my stamping library. For everything else I go to the Internet: StampWorld.com , Colnect, HipStamp, and the boards. Oh! And YouTube! hmmm...don’t know why the last one is sideways. It’s the manual for StampManage that finally arrived last week - my current reading material.

Nothing to do per sé with stamps, but my first foreign purchase was the New Zealand Vintage Cars issue from 1972, which publicized the 13th International Car Rally being held in New Zealand that year. I found this 82 page booklet in an Invercargill bookshop. I asked about it, and ended up purchasing it.
I love the ad on the back, as it's something you never see nowadays!
Read my post about the stamps. I was hoping to mount the booklet in the stamp album, but it is just too big and thick. It is nice to have though.
These stamps are now back in my collection!

Seems like a good place to ask
I am looking for a copy of Timbres perfores de France 1876 à 1959 ANCOPER (earlier is OK). I can only find new from Europe and the postage to ship to US is more than the book (book is 40, mailing is 55 - 60!)
Thanks Stan

Maybe they're sending it throught en express courier, not with standard post... Anyway, consider a book could be heavy. The last edition of the Fischer catalog (Poland) is more than 1Kg... I'm waiting "Polskie Taryfy Poctowe 1918-1939", it should arrive tomorrow... That's a record, just few days from Krakow to Milan... Not that i collect postal history, but it's a book not so easy to find and during the inflation period in Poland postal rates were changing once every week circa... So, when the seller has reduced the price from 50$ to 40$ i said: let's take it...
But i've seen "Fundamentals of Philately"... That's one of the first books i've taken... To be honest, i haven't opened it a lot. I've read it the first time, even not 100%, but it's years i don't take it in hands... It's a kind of books that you don't really need to consult all the time...

Thanks for the photos djcmh. I love my Facit specialized catalogue and thought it was a treat to have 200 pages for Finland. But 900! Wow. It's great to see one that drills even deeper in a subset of that area.

One of my favorite parts of using Colnect is that the Finland section has a ton of information on varieties from LaPe. I reference that section often. Colnect is evolving into my go to reference source for many of my collections.
