chrischross: Scans not repeated - I wonder how your "German" is ? I have looked may times in various Michel Cats - wished I knew the lingo (language) as it does not come close to "English" or "French" LOL.... but today with time you can have translation - There are a few Michel(s) in "English" - I do not own any on paper but do have lots in "my documents" !!

cjoprey -- thanks for the link, very useful. For me, since I collect mainly French Central Africa currently, going from English to French to German is somewhat of a challenge, this should help greatly.

Whilst there is an interesting item pertaining to KGV on the forum what better time to recommend this excellent work by Douglas Muir. 'George V and the GPO...stamps, conflict and creativity'. Issued to coincide with 'London 2010, A Festival of Stamps', produced by the British Postal Museum & Archive. Some great stories about the collector King as well as great history and superb images. A must for any collector of KGV material.

A recent acquisition for me at auction is this book by Gilbert J. Allis, "The Postage Stamps of the Cape Of Good Hope", published in 1930. Apart from being a great reference book it contains a plate proof containing defaced 1d and 4d triangle pairs. Will post in the COGH thread later.

Since my post was moved to this thread (very good move from our Moderator), I would like to repeat that 1 have a spare copy of Unitrade Canada Specialized Cat. and will have 2 in December - offered free (+ shipping) to our members. Since I have never mailed a copy, I have no clue on the postal $ for shipment (all depends where also)

I would love a more recent copy for reference (mine current copy is from 2002). I have a spare 2016 catalogue, but I'm afraid it would cost an arm and a leg to mail. It's around 5 pounds in weight!

Brightonpete, thank you very much for your offer. I have already made arrangements with Rene for his 2019 copy. The generosity of the people on the Forum (with both their time and treasures) is much appreciated.

Hello Folks. Here in Rio de Janeiro there is a reasonable stamp library from the Brazilian Stamp Club, if you are looking for literature in specific topics, I could have a look and see if there are books of interest, i can take pictures and send to you if there is some thing that I might find here. The Club is dying out for lack of new members, so the books in the libray reach from 19th century to 1960's - 1970's (no new editions or modern literature, but lots of old stuff, collections of the American Philatelist, books on forgeries, cancelations, and so on...

Looks like a great acquisition, Michael, thanks for posting.... I hope that you will post the images of the plate proofs in the COGH thread. By the way, does the book normally contain those plate proofs? I located another copy of this book for sale online, but when I contacted the seller and I asked about the plate proofs based on your post, I was told that there was nothing like that included in the copy being offered. Can you explain more about this? Many thanks, Chris

Many thanks for your response, daniel. I followed the link, and I can see exactly what you are talking about. It appears that when I previously looked into getting a copy of this book, it was the paperback edition, which the seller told me did not include any tipped in stamps like michael described. I suppose that explains why the paperback version is being offered at £50 while the hardback with the insert(s) is at £222! I hope that Michael will still favour us at some point by posting images of the stamps (should they be called stamps, Cinderellas, or something else?) printed by PB from the defaced plates. I found what may be an image of those stamps on another website, but the image quality is not very good, so I am hoping to see what these really look like. Anyway, thanks for your response, Daniel.... good stuff!

Agreed, any paperback would most likely be a modern reprint and won't contain the plate proof.
I was really lucky getting mine, it was 1 of 2 from a recent Cavendish auction of RPSL excess stock at a very good price. It's ex National Archives of Canada and still has the library card in, used once in 1985!
The one from Abebooks can be purchased direct from Pennymeads at £200.
I will post images of the plate on the COGH thread.

"Barcelona, Art i Aventura del Llibre" (Barcelona, Arts and Adventure of the Book), Barcelona, 2002, 470 pages..
The history of the Oliva de Vilanova Printing Works by the schoolar Santi Barjau and the researcher (and Grand-grand-son of the "father" of the bussiness) Víctor Oliva. In addition to books, they printed most 1929/47 Barcelona City Council stamps (see, my last contribution to the "ships on stamps" thread) and many high quality cinderellas, among them the 1947 Montserrat issue. Active, from 1880s up to the 1990's.
A wonderful, fully illustrated, book. Unfortunately for most of you, it's written in Catalan.

I purchased this thinking it was used, but it's new, with inserts and some parts have an English counterpart/translation... we'll see how Google translate does with Hungarian! Only $15, I consider this a bargain!
