Thanks to coastwatcher, I now have the Stanley Gibbons New Zealand catalogue. This, in conjunction with the ACS catalogue is a welcome addition to my library. Too bad they don't show all stamps in it. That's why I'll use the ACS as well, although now that I am becoming more familiar with New Zealand once again, ACS will be left at the bottom of the heap!

Here is what showed up today at the post office, the English Michel German Reich catalogue from Nordfrim. They added some Dutch stamps inside, since international mail gets labels instead. Very nicely done!
Here is a sample of what it looks like. No more Google Translate for this section of Germany!

same as Pete's. It will be helpful, but I guess I missed the part that didn't mention the German States
I have Michel German specialized (in German) a very thick tome (older version as I do not collect past Deustch Post)

These are the 2 books that I am using to identify my Swiss Soldier Stamps. On the left is the catalogue 'Die Soldatenmarken der Schweiz' by Heinrich Sulser. World War I consists of 50 pages categorised by military Divisions and 250 pages for World War II categorised by general military units such as Artillery and Infantry etc. Selected illustrations are shown in black and white at the end.
The second book has colour illustrations.

"1916 Bright & Sons, ABC Stamps of the British Empire Catalogue" I just won this nifty little catalogue on eBay. Maybe some of our British members might recognize this company? It's a little guy about 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches (165 x 115 mm).
It's fascinating seeing the 1916 prices for sets like the Canada Queen Victoria Jubilee going for 100 shillings (=5 £) listed under their heading "Cheap sets of stamps".
The Great Britain 1£ Green Seahorse sells for 21 shillings which at the time would have been 1 shilling over face value (OMG)...
I've included a few different pages to show how much the stamps we seek today have increased. This is really a fun read, I'd classify it under the heading of "Cheap Thrills"...
Rob
£100 in 1916 is equivalent in purchasing power to about £8,922.70 today, an increase of £8,822.70 over 105 years. The pound had an average inflation rate of 4.37% per year between 1916 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 8,822.70%.
This means that today's prices are 89.23 times higher than average prices since 1916, according to the Office for National Statistics composite price index. A pound today only buys 1.12% of what it could buy back then.
The 1916 inflation rate was 18.18%. The current year-over-year inflation rate (2020 to 2021) is now 0.70%1. If this number holds, £100 today will be equivalent in buying power to £100.70 next year.

I recently won a copy of L. N. Williams' revised edition (1990) of Fundamentals of Philately at auction. I wonder how long (if at all) it will take me to read all 800+ pages.

Recently bought this updated second edition which has much more new information than the 2008 1st edition I have, especially the sections on insert slips and manuscript inspector/examiner's audit markings of different Auslandsbriefprüfstellen.

The Englishman Who Posted Himself and Other Curious Objects by John Tingey, Princeton Architectural Press
WERT 's recent post about the possibility of mailing children by US Parcel Postal reminded me of this book about W Reginald Bray, an Englishman who exploited Post Office regulations to successfully 'post' himself. He would also test the Post Office with challenging, minimally addressed postcards
Thanks for sharing this. It looks very interesting so just ordered a copy for a browse

This set of world catalogues from Stanley Gibbons arrived today. Sadly the courier beat up the slip case but hopefully I can stabilise that so it can continue to be used. It’s 2004 so not that current but it’s in colour which is nice. Hopefully it will help me identify stamps without having to trawl the internet. Graham

Newly arrived in my library - the 2021 edition of the 2-volume Decimals section of the Brusden-White Australian Commonwealth Specialized Catalogue
Two VERY heavy tomes full of information on Australian stamps from 1966 to 2001, definitive, commemorative and Frama
I already have the various pre-Decimal era volumes in my library, but the last Decimals editions came out in 2001, so I wanted to wait and hope for a new edition to come along. And finally, it did. All sorts of details included, from variations in phosophorescents (some of the 1970s issues have up to half a dozen different phosphorescent types!) to valuations for on cover usage and valuation for reprints with the Koala/Kangaroo indicator.

Now that is one detailed catalogue. But 7.50 vice 0.25 for a cancelled to order stamp over a postally used stamp? Wow, that is crazy! I guess there weren't very many CTO stamps sold!

A new publication, color reproduction of the pages of my friend Tim Bartsche's
Orange Free State Postal Cards of 1884-1900 gold/grand award exhibit.
Pub by Exhibitors Press. Available from Amazon per link, $30
A high-quality 8-1/2 x 11 reproduction of his exhibit as found online.
Good value for someone who doesn't want to burn up a lot of ink and time printing from the net.

One of the Catalogues I have been searching for several years to acquire finally is in my possession Three volume set of the Romanian Postage Stamp Catalogue, published between 2006 and 2008.
Some shots from volume 1 where all the classic-era specialized stuff is located. Loving the detail! Been working on my library some the past few weeks, so will be adding more new things I've picked up to this thread.

djcmh, I would dearly love to own a set of those Romanian Catalogues. I have attempted to buy them through a Romanian website but was unsuccessful. I seem to remember they would not ship to the US. May I ask how you were able to purchase them?

May I ask how you were able to purchase them? This was a case of connections - one of the editors at Colnect who specializes in Romania has a contact he deals with in Romania and he put me in contact with him. Took a couple weeks to find a dealer in Romania from whom the Romanian contact could then order the catalogues (a lot of listings you find from Romanian dealers on the internet are "ghost" listings, took a couple tries to find a dealer that actually did have the catalogues) and then the Romanian contact shipped them out to me. Involved a lot of emails back and forth but eventually it all came together

And another "holy grail" catalogue I have been wanting has finally been acquired - The Nile Post catalogue for Egypt Covers Egypt from 1866 to 2002 in almost 800 pages - heavy hardback tome with all sorts of wonderful specialized data anyone interested or even mildly curious about Egypt might want.
In addition to regular Egyptian stamps, also covers the British Military Force issues, Suez Canal Comapny, French Post offices in Alexandria and Port Said, Overprints for Egyptian Occupation of Gaza Strip and the first issue of Sudan overprinted on Egyptian stamps. Also includes postal stationery and a whole chapter on essays.
Not cheap, and not easy to find, but finally got it in my hands!
Note that there are two other very specialized catalogues for Egypt collectors - L. Balian's two-volume Stamps of Egypt (vol 1 published in 1998, volume 2 in 2008) and Magdi Mukhtar Abd al-Hadi's two-volume Egypt Stamps Handbook from 2010, but they seem even harder to find that Nile Post!
