After listening to others and looking at excerpts from their catalogues I decided to order a couple of German catalogues as that’s an area I’ve been concentrating on recently. After looking around I settled on Michel as being one of the best and these arrived today from a German seller on eBay. They are really good and I’m going to be doing a lot of google translating until I get the hang of it. Absolutely the best reference to use for Germany. I have the 2014 edition and in my work with Colnect refer to it at least once a day. Can send you down multiple rabbit holes of interest if you allow it.

Latest addition to my archive : Ngo's Catalogue of Philippine Republic StampsPart I covers Regular Postage Stamps
Part II covers Small Panes (what Germans would call Kleinbogen), Errors, Freaks and Oddities as well as Postal Stationery
I already had the EDIFIL Specialized for Spanish Colonial Philippines, and Scott's Specialized has a whole section for American Colonial Philippines, now this completes coverage for the Philippines.

Received today- listed as 2004, but it is in superb condition so I will not complain (as it was the only copy later than early 90's I could find available!) and a definite improved version from my earlier 1984 which was marked up by the former owner- I am guessing those stamps he/she had, a large ink X was placed over the image..... but I do need more shelf space....

This year is becoming the year that I fill out my Catalogue library for as many parts of the world as I can. Got several new additons this past week. First up, the AFA Denmark 2021 Catalogue
Somewhat specialized catalog for Denmark, Faroes and Greenland - the really specialized AFA catalogue I am going to hold off purchasing as it is due for a new edition in the next year or so. Would hate to buy the most recent (2016) edition only to have a new one come out in 2022.

Next up, the 2021 edition of the Phila-India catalogue for India. It's the principle Indian-produced catalogue for stamp collectors in India, so thought would be good to include since it gives an insight into how Indian collectors collect. One very nice thing - it comes it its own book "box" to store the catalogue in!
It's a fairly basic catalogue, definitely less detailed than say Gibbons India specialized volume, but still nice to have in the collection.

Finally was able to pick up on the cheap older copies of the Yang catalogues for the People's Republic, covering both the Liberated Areas issues of 1930-1950 and the post-1949 PRC issues First, the 1991 edition of the Liberated Areas, which I picked up off ebay for US$10. Will likely get a more recent edition in the future but this will be good for now.
I also picked up the 2009 edition of Yang's PRC catalogue for post-Civil War issues
Interestingly, the 2009 is the latest edition of Yang PRC that I could find information about. Searching for newer edition turned up nothing, and former web links for Yang's actual store no longer seem to be active. Yang was considered the "catalogue of record" for PRC back in the 2010s so will be surprised if they are no longer around. Most recent publication i have seen is a Hong Kong 2015 catalog (on the list for me to get in the future.) I have seen online a 2021 edition of a catalogue produced in China itself covering the issues of the People's Republic. If anyone has experience with this catalogue and how it is, please let me know. I am interested in it.

Just received the 2022 NVPH Specialized Catalog for the Netherlands. It came with a expert catalog of varieties of FDCs for the Antilles and Surinam. I may need to put everything else aside to look through this.

On its way along with an update of the Prangko Indonesia catalogue to replace an ancient 2009 edition I currently have.

I am struggling a bit with the Michel Specialised as the translations aren’t always accurate If you run into any German you just can't make out, feel free to shoot it to me. Either the text or the volume/page/line (I have copies of the same year's catalogs).

Some great news for anyone who specializes in Japan, the JSCA Specialized Catalogues for Japan are now being produced in Bilingual Editions, Japanese and English. Until now, the catalogues had only been published in Japanese The first volume to come out covers the definitive issues from 1876 to 1908 (Kobans and Crysanthemums, as well as the Offices Abroad versions of the Crystanthemum issues, and the Postal Stationery of the era). Above is a sample page from my copy I just picked up after discovering the JSCA had launched a new edition and that they were bilingual. The best news though is that this is just the first volume. JSCA are planning to release six bilingual volumes in total over the next few years. The next volume to be released will cover the 1871-1876 first issues of Japan with a tentative release date of October 2021. Other volumes planned are Definitives 1913-1937 Definitives 1937-1948 Definitives 1948-1989 Commemoratives 1896-1956 So for collectors of Japan it is going to become a lot easier to be able to get the specialist information that the JSCA has long had for Japanese stamps (especially definitives). The UPC of the catalogue is 9784889638448

I hesitate before posting as I cannot upload pictures whilst away from my upstairs desk and scanner , but this week I have added two essential volumes on the Triangular stamps of Cape of Good Hope. Not to be blasphemous but they are the Bible and New Testament for the Cape triangles 1. As a most generous gift from Chris Beryllium Guy , Sotheby’s sale catalogue 1982 The Sir Maxwell Joseph Collection 2. By purchase from an antiquarian bookshop. D. Alan Stevenson “ the Triangular stamps of the Cape of Good Hope”. Pricy at £150 but hard to find limited print run

Great stuff, Alex ( vikingeck), thanks for your post! I am glad to hear that you have decided to buy yourself a copy of the Stevenson book. I have hesitated myself, due to the price, but perhaps at some point I will come to the same conclusion as you have. Although I often work with electronic documents these days, I still find hard copies easier to read and peruse in general. Anyway, I am glad that you are enjoying the Maxwell Joseph book and that you will now have your own copy of Stevenson.

The last addition to my library is an old addition... 1908, Istruzioni per il servizio delle corrispondenze postali (Instructions for the service of postal correspondences) It is a book i purchased a couple of years ago, but the conditions was very bad. Recently i found on facebook a young people who works in the field of books restoration. He normally deal with old books, 18th century going back. He works for libraries or bibliothecs and in effect i've been his first private customer, but i'm pretty happy of the result. The book was published by the italian postal administration, not sold, but distributed inside post offices, maybe not all, maybe the bigger, or maybe upon request. I believe the post offices behaved in respect of the main postal administration as a kind of customers, i.e. they bought all the stuffs they needed like postmarks, forms, even stamps, from the main administration, putting the cost of all these purchases in the accounting books. Anyway, this kind of books was not availlable to the public. It collects all the rules and the procedure that a post office officer/attendant should follow in his work, which and how postmaks should have been applied, how to calculate dues, apply fees, etc. At my knowledge, it is the last of those books issued before the war, but i believe it has been in use even after, at least up to '60s-'70s. Actually, the rules for handling mail are for sure changed, but i couldn't find any other more recent similar book. A boring reading, but they should be the base for who's interested in postal history... How it was... I cannot not to give the link of Andrea, the people who did the work. Andrea Poggiali

Neat site, hadn't seen that in a while, thanks for the link. I don't really collect US these days, but questions come up from friends all the time, and invariably, US stamps are involved. The phone book size is really handy.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I knew I kept these catalogues for a reason. They came in a big job lot of stamp stuff I bought years ago. Tonight a forum member needed help with some precancels and booklet stamps. Once I found where I had hidden them I was able to answer Stans questions.
