Here's a cute little stamp, obviously issued for Canada's 125th anniversary in 1992. The gentleman is 'Honest' Ed Mirvish, Toronto business man, entrepreneur, philanthropist, retailer, icon and legend. Oh, and he was a friend of my Dad's! Ed had a huge store in Toronto, called Honest Ed's which I think everyone who lived or grew up here has a memory of. Sadly Ed died a few years ago, and his son David has taken over the family fortune. The store will be closing at the end of this year to make way for....you guessed it....a condo. Unfortunately that means that all the small businesses around it, including the stamp dealer I frequent, will have to move. Ah, progress. Maybe cindyman can tell us more about this one, and if there were any others in the set.

Nice stamp James. First time I see it, or even something like this. So can't really say much about it, or if there was a series of 125th anniversary cinderellas. But we still have some plates in our kitchen that were purchased at Ed's store in the early 1980's! That store was definitely an icon!

Mazenod: At first I wasn't sure if this was from Canada or France. But recently I've seen an English version of this stamp, as well as the French version attached to a cover dated Nov 1960 from Maniwaki, QC. So most likely it is a Canadian cinderella, issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of De Mazenod's death in 1961.

This one is one I had to have.Printed on almost postcard stock.Looks early to me. Nice one. Note the "N" in "QUEEN" is reversed. Best estimate on date is ca. 1868. A similar (and earlier) version of this college stamp has "Ontario" replaced with "Upper Canada". Catalog number cc8650.5 in the Field Guide to the Cinderella Stamps of Canada. See also Canadian Philatelist (2002 Jul-Aug) p. 176 for an image of a nice block of 10 with the 3 other varieties, and BNA Topics #530, p. 6 for a more recent description.

Here's a newer item (1994) I found today at an antique store. It is a 13 page souvenir booklet created for the Centennial of the City of Calgary. Each page has a picture and story of an historic attraction in the city. But the cover is made up of 10 picture stamps. Well actually, the cover is a sheet of clear plastic with the red Fort Calgary Historical Park logo, but under that you can see the stamps. The perforations are printed in gray dots, but the stamps are actually rouletted. It's noted on the booklet that the stamps are not valid for postage, but for some reason they've printed a $1 price on each one.

Picked these up today as well. Vancouver 1936 Jubilee. I had the one in the upper right already. According to candyman's post about this back on page 8, this is a set of 42. So, only 38 more to find.

This label marking the centennial of Canadian Confederation in 1967 has seen better days; however, it hadn't yet been posted here so I thought it worth displaying. And a companion piece.

I was only 3 years old at the time of the Canadian Centennial and even I have heard this song 20,000 times since then ... I can't imagine what it would have been like at the time it was current. Bobby Gimby, he of that really strange unbent trumpet, was a fixture on telethons and talk shows and things of such nature here for years afterward.

I was 7 at the time, and remember that song quite well. It was EVERYWHERE! I think we even sang it in music class at school. The centennial logo, very 60s design, can still be seen here and there around Toronto, on what would have been centennial projects.

I would suspect that both sheets came out in the same year Originally they were in a booklet with an explanation of each stamp There was a Canada Trust office (maybe London Ontario) where you could submit conservation events related to the seals

For the Group of Seven Canada Trust stamps: A total of 11 different stamps was issued in four different configurations of minisheets of 6 stamps (3 x 2). The stamps feature the following slogans and artwork: a) “Save our Parks” with “Pine Cleft Rocks” by Tom Thomson b) “Save our Streams” with “River St. Urbain” by A. Y. Jackson c) “Save our Trees” with “Melting Snow” by Edwin Holgate d) “Save our Forests” with “Forest Algoma” by Arthur Lismer e) “Save our Air” with “Goat Range Rocky Mountains” by J. E. H. MacDonald f) “Save our Parks” with “Mountain Portage” by F. H. Varley g) “Save our Lakes” with “Moose Pond” by Frank Johnston h) “Save our Trees” with “Pike Lake” by A. J. Casson i) “Save our Air” with “Eclipse Sound and Bylot Island” by Lawren Harris j) “Save our Trees” with “Oak Bluff” by Lionel FitzGerald k) “Save our Forests” with “Spring Garland” by Frank Carmichael A mini album with detailed descriptions of each of the paintings was also offered. Sheet configurations: Sheet 1: a-b-c/d-e-f; Sheet 2: a-g-d/h-c-e; Sheet 3: b-a-i/j-h-k; Sheet 4: b-f-i/j-g-k.
For the Canada Trust Nature seals: Starting in 1971 Canada Trust issued a series of 6 nature seals featuring animals and plants: a) frog with “Save our streams”; b) hawk with “Save our birds”; c) flowers with “Save our parks”; d) deer with “Save our forests”; e) butterfly with “Save our air”; f) fish with “Save our lakes”. The seals were distributed in Canada Trust branches in the 1970s and again in the 1990s. They were printed as 5 different minisheets of 6 stamps (3 x 2) with different types of selvage inscriptions and perforations, or as a perforated sheet of 36 (6 x 6).

Found these two cindys on the back of these envelopes at my club recently. The covers, obviously philatelic were sent to the club, the Barrie District Stamp Club, from the Grey, Bruce, Dufferin & Simcoe Postal History Group, part of the Postal History Society of Canada, in 2000 and 2001. I think we can conclude that the cindys themselves are philatelic as well, since the 'Courier Services' bear the same name as the study group. But who's counting?

Don't pick up a lot of meter postage envelopes, but the back of this one caught my eye. WWII patriotic label. I'm assuming this is Canadian, but it does look a lot like some of the US patriotics I've seen

Don't pick up a lot of meter postage envelopes, but the back of this one caught my eye. And the "New Toronto, Ont." is what caught my own eye. Calgary has a few communities which were former towns in their own right that have since been amalgamated / annexed and it's fun to search for postmarks from places like Bowness, Forest Lawn, Ogden, etc. I hadn't heard of New Toronto before, but it was quite the going industrial concern. The New Toronto Historical Society has scanned an entertaining booklet from 1963's 50th anniversary celebrations in New Toronto. Ryan
