I broke down and purchased the cd to identify SSJB issues while I'm waiting for shipment, when it arrives I will be able to assist you with these.I'm into the third page of these but am holding off showing them until they become organized.I looked for New Years Resolution thread but not good with search function here.Be interesting to bring that back to light as we are half way through the year.

Here's another sheet that was issued in 1983 and again overprinted in 1993. The boat pictured is the SS Royal William, the first vessel to complete a steam-powered trans-Atlantic crossing in 1833.

I am plugging along on re-mounting christmas seals,it is taking much longer than I hoped, from what I'm finding they are mostly complete through 1990 or so.If there is interest in my leftovers of these and some other wildlife seals we can make a random draw for them.I'll get back to work now, wish me luck.

It was in an oily swamp near the remote hamlet of Black Creek (now Oil Springs) in southwestern Ontario that two businessmen, Charles Tripp and James Miller Williams, developed the first Canadian oil well in 1858. In 1865 oil was discovered in nearby Petrolia. Many small oil companies sprang up, but were soon gobbled up by the larger American oil companies. In 1901 the Canadian Oil Refining Company was formed in Petrolia, and in 1904 it merged with 8 other small oil companies to form the Canadian Oil Company Limited. But dwindling oil reserves soon forced the company into bankruptcy and it was purchased by the National Refining Company of Cleveland, Ohio in 1908. Here's a cover dated 1904 with a nice label advertising the company's Saint John, NB office (head office was actually in Toronto). Any clues as to how electric light oil worked back then? Was it oil that heated a steam-powered turbine to generate a local electrical current, or something similar?

I have some stamps in a slightly different design ( different but similar border but same picture and date) including the capilano one but with a brown border. Can someone give some information about.

There were at least 4 different types of cinderella stamps commemorating the 1936 Vancouver Jubilee: 1. set of 56 stamps with magenta frame. 2. set of 42 stamps with brown frame, slightly larger than the magenta stamps, and sharing the same B&W photos. 3. set of at least 5 stamps with colour paintings of Vancouver-area scenes 4. 1 stamp with Vancouver city skyline and sunrise over mountains.

The Canadian National Exhibition produced beautiful advertising posters every year. The poster stamps were of course based on these wonderful works of art. Here's the advertising poster for the 1929 CNE, the inspiration for the design of the poster stamp shown above.

Here's an interesting label, considering how the Tar Sands are in the news so much lately. Obviously once a source of pride.

Notre Dame du Cap: block of 4 from 1965, printed as a sheet of 48. block of 6 from 1959, printed as a sheet of 72. The parish issued such fundraising stamps annually from 1956 (maybe 1955?) until at least 1968.

We'll give the Propaganda and Patriotic thread a break and put these here. After all, Cindies are like Postage stamps in that they can belong in many places on the philatelic map !! Londonbus1

Some new additions to my Canadian pile. Two Merry Christmas stamps from Imperial Products. And I absolutely LOVE this one from the Bank of Toronto (formed in 1857 and amalgamated with the Dominion Bank in 1955 to become the Toronto Dominion (TD) Bank). This is an image of their offices at the corner of King and Bay Sts. in Toronto. Don't know if it's still there.

Here is a pic from 1910....very impressive building. It appears that the Bank are still at the same intersection but I could not work out which building in relation to the old pics !! Lovely label though. Can I borrow it ?

The Congrès Eucharistique de Rimouski was originally scheduled to be held in August 1950 in Rimouski, Quebec. However, on May 6 of that year, a fire started in the Price Brothers lumberyard and with high winds, soon crossed the river and set the town ablaze. One third of the town was destroyed, including the old seminary, the convent, a school, a hospital, dozens of businesses and 383 residences. Over 2300 people were left homeless, and the congress was cancelled. It took years to rebuild, but in 1955 Rimouski finally held its eucharistic congress. A single stamp has been seen that promoted the 1950 eucharistic congress that never was. It is unknown how many of these stamps actually survived the inferno.

Here's the glassine envelope that held the Imperial Products "Come to Canada / Merry Christmas" stamp shown above. The stamps were issued in panes of 8 (4 x 2) probably around 1940 or 1941.

Well, I am still new enough to stamp collecting that I am hoping you will indulge me another silly question: were many of these cinderellas actually put on envelopes? (I realize that local\vanity post stamps often did get put on covers.) If so, where did the they go? The back of the envelope?
