Junior Philatelic Society Manchester 1933 This was a good find on eBay. The Junior Philatelic Society was founded in 1899 by Fred J Melville, aged 17, having been rejected by the Philatelic Society London (now The Royal Philatelic Society London) as he was too young. There was much need for such a Junior Society and a Manchester branch was formed in 1906. In 1908 the JPS produced its own magazine, The Stamp Lover. These stamps may relate to the 25th anniversary. The society is now the National Philatelic Society. Melville, depicted on the stamps, was a prolific philatelic author and magazine editor. He organised many stamp exhibitions including APEX 1934. He died in 1940 and was inducted into the APS Hall of Fame. His philatelic library was purchased by the US Library of Congress.

The Scottish National War Memorial Poster Stamps The idea of such a memorial was first considered towards the end of the war but after much discussion, committees and fundraising it was finally opened in Edinburgh Castle in 1927. These fundraising sheets were issued c1925. There were four sheets issued: The Twelve Famous Scottish Regiments (which I am missing), RAF and other Troops, The Navy and The Women's Services. I had previously only purchased a couple of the stamps at £4 or £5 each. These sheets were another good buy, working out at about £1 each stamp.

daniel Those Scottish National War Memorial sheets are wonderful. I had a chance to visit the Memorial last June. It is quite moving and I was impressed that out of respect photos were not allowed. The more I travel the more I realize that if you are too busy taking pictures you lose site of what you are looking at. That is especially true in this digital age where we have unlimited capacity with our various devices.

Today's additions to my collection from BEA; Nice items. They were used as the Fee for rapid mail available to be collected within an hour or two of posting.Handed in at one airport and collected by the addressee at another airport. a relatively short lived service as air transport of mails within the UK soon became the norm rather than an express service.

Lord Roberts Memorial Fund Stamps Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts (1832-1914), later 1st Earl Roberts was a popular soldier prior to the First World War. He cared for the ordinary soldier and raised money for those who had fallen into poverty. He died at the very beginning of World War I and funds were raised in his honour to further his good work. Some of these stamps have been shown previously in this thread. This page is taken from one of the albums but someone has added the signature of Lord Roberts (FM for Field Marshal) from a letter. Even if it is some kind of copy signature it is still a nice addition:

National Association of Theatrical Television and Kine Employees (NATTKE) Contribution Stamps - Union Dues Get ready for name change overload. This trades union began in 1890 following strike action at The Adelphi Theatre in London. Originally called the United Kingdom Theatrical and Music Hall Operatives' Union, in 1901 it renamed itself the National Union of Theatrical Stage Employees. In 1904 it became the National Association of Theatrical Employees and the National Association of Theatrical and Kine Employee in 1936 (that's NATKE with one T) and this particular name in 1970, NATTKE with two Ts. In 1984, NATTKE merged with the Association of Broadcasting Staff to form the Broadcasting and Entertainment Trades Alliance. The merged union created by NATTKE and the ABS was briefly known as ETA before becoming BETA. In 1991, BETA merged with the Association of Cinematograph Television and Allied Technicians to form the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union (BECTU). In 2017, the union became a part of Prospect, a trade union which represents engineers, managers, scientists and other specialists in both the public and private sectors in the UK and that's where they are today!!!

Wembley Monarchs Ice Hockey team, 1938. These were issued in booklets. One of a series of 'Wembley Sports Poster Stamps'. My first thought when seeing these was I wonder if many Canadians played on this team and in their league. I found lots of information on line. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wembley_Monarchs I found the team roster on another site and sure enough the majority of players were Canadian.

A couple other cinderellas I found at the OKPEX show this past weekend. I have not seen either item before and know nothing about them, and, subsequently hoping that daniel or Londonbus1 might provide some background information to help with my pending write-up. Thanks to both and/or others that recognize these two labels Don StampHinger A large label commemorating the 50th anniversary of Wembley stamp exhibition. A first-day cover for GB Sc. B1 with label commemorating Great Britain's first semi-postal stamp.

(I saw your post shortly before falling asleep last night, and wanted to comment then, but have found my late-night posts are often riddled with grammar and spelling errors that I only recognize the next day, and that causes me too much embarrassment.) So: Wow! Those Tuck stamps are extraordinary! Tuck's postcards are a cut above the rest and in a class by themselves. I'd collect them if I were starting down the postcard path (and had the time and funds). I had no idea they issued stamps, too. I audibly gasped last night when I first saw your post. As I so often say for your posts, thank you for sharing!

stamphinger.......your first item is a poorly produced souvenir sheet sold at the National Stamp Day Stamp fair held at the Strand Palace Hotel in London. It cost a whopping 80p at the time !! National Stamp day is not as popular in the UK as it used to be. The Strand Palace Hotel Stamp Fairs were one of my favourites in the day. Lovely location. The second Cinderella appears to have been issued in conjunction with that first GB semi-postal stamp in 1975. I am sure there is more info on that here or maybe in my notes so a follow-up will be forthcoming or maybe daniel knows something. Londonbus1

Don, stamphinger , in the lower left corner of the 'label' on the charity cover you can see the word Mercury. They were/are cover producers. I believe that the stamp label is actually an embossed cachet. Nice nonetheless. In the UK, Royal Mail have only produced a handful of charity stamps but never promoted them as much as they could have. Daniel

Dave, Philatarium, thank you for your kind comments. I have been very lucky with my purchases of late and I was very pleased to win the Raphael Tuck booklet at a very good price, £5.50. They were, most famously, responsible for the Charles Dickens Testimonial stamps, see the sheet here. They must have produced other stamps but their premises were bombed during the London Blitz and many records lost but I found some online here and here. Daniel

daniel Londonbus1Thanks for the info on the National Stamp Day S/S and the first charity stamp label (cachet) cover. All usefull information. I found the stamp day s/s loose in a box of "junk" covers and the dealer sold it to me for .35. It has a couple of faults, but I guess it was worth the price considering its original cost of 80 pence. Daniel, you are correct about the embossed cachet on the FDC. The indentation is clearly visible on the cover's reverse. It sure had me fooled. I like its colors and thought it was an attractive cinderella for my Cinderellas on Cover collection. Now headed for the FDC album. Fortunately, it came out of the same "junk" cover box and was priced at $1. Best wishes. Don
