The boxed First Class Mail now added ... thanks
With regards to the posts on meter marks, I had early on decided not to include these. The reason was the vast number that exist, various license numbers, etc etc
However, I have given this some thought and will throw it open to members ....
Would these be useful in the database for collectors ? Would you want to search by the license number or would that information be secondary ?
With regards to the last question, I really do feel that a different number is therefore a different machine and thus a separate mark ...
If I add these to the database, they will all be in their own section
This would stop the clutter in other sections where a search for example of LONDON will already return a great number of results.
For the moment these are not listed, but I await comments and observations from users here. After all, the database is for collectors ...

Opinion: I think you have enough on your plate , Allan. You manage well. Meters are well enough covered by the Wiki link, I think, to satisfy most occasional collectors, (as myself) Specialists will have their own literature. Begin meters at your own peril You do a bang up job, with your current vast database.

No additional postmark to show as tonight's offering, however, I have managed to get some work done on the database so will share that in the hope that it may prove useful ... As already mentioned above, I have been working on a section covering the slogan postmarks of Great Britain and the text page / introduction is now finished (I hope) and can be seen at philatelicweb.com/pmks/gbslogans.htmlThe introduction give general information as the more detailed info will be shown with each slogan. The Index pages are all in place, you select the letter for the slogan you are looking for and then select the link in the list presented. At the moment, the listing is very limited as I have only added the entries for 1917 and 1918 which amounts to a grand total of three different slogan texts ... Buy National War Bonds Now Buy National War Bonds Feed The Guns With War Bonds The index entries will be made in many ways to allow collectors to find the details, thus for the above they are listed under the first letter of the slogan text as well as ... Under N for National War Bonds and Under W for War Bonds In the entries for the truncated names, the index also shows the full version ... The link provided will take the user to a year listing for the slogan, or in later cases not yet in place. the period of use selected Once at the year listing, all the slogans for that year are listed and will be (eventually) illustrated Details on each type will include periods of use, number of dies and anything else that comes to hand and will prove useful .. Once at a year listing, the user will be able to go back or forward through the years and view the next set of slogans etc ... [Moderator note - the following links are broken and irretrievable]Here is a direct link to the W part of the index ... philatelicweb.com/pmks/gbslogansW.htmland here is a link to the 1917 listing ... philatelicweb.com/pmks/gbslogans1917.htmlThe listing of the slogans for each year is easiest done for me working through in order, so unless there are any great gaffs I have made, the nest set of entries will be for 1922 as there were no slogans in the years 1919 - 1921 In addition, at the end of each type / group there is a grey button that will search the database with the text as shown - thus once you have the details for the slogan, it is easy to then see if the location, date etc is recorded The details provided to this point should allow the collector to separate the different machines and with the slogans assign them to the machines that they were used on Please do let me know what you think of this ... I am having fun putting it together and hope it proves useful in the study of these items Allan

The above items now added to the listing ...
The slogan index for 1922 is now in place 1923 should be easier text wise as there were two variations that started in that year ...

Tonight's item from the database (as you might guess with what I am doing at the moment) is a slogan .... [Moderator edit - image link is broken and irretrievable]This one, which includes the wording 'Visit the Ulster pavilion' was used on single impression Hey-Dolphin machine and only at Belfast Two dies were used and the machines can be identified by the code letter after the year as shown above The other machine had no code letter ... Period of use - December 1923 to June 1924 Still working away ... and the slogan lists now have everything to the end of 1924 listed Good luck in a search for this and any others ... Allan

Tonight's offering is another slogan, again from Wembley but the following year, 1925 [Moderator edit - image link is broken and irretrievable]This is the first type of slogan for the torchlight tattoo showing the dates and start time This event was so popular that it was extended, and a new slogan with revised dates was issued. It was extended again past the final date, and the slogan was adapted by the removal of the dates and in many cases replacement with dots, bars or block This is going to be quite complex to get everything right in the slogan listing ---------------------------------------------------- Some of the entries for 1925 are in place, but they still need to be added to the index. This indexing will probably happen once I have this year finished ... For 1917 and 1918, prices have been added for each basic slogan type. The revised text at the bottom of the slogans introduction page explains how this has been applied Some of this early material is worth having and I hope this information will allow collectors to grab the bargains when they are offered by dealers ... As always ... happy hunting .... Allan

For tonight's recent addition to the database, I thought I would come more up to date ... [Moderator edit - image links are broken and irretrievable]In modern times Post Office counters are using self inking hand stamps, rather than the older type with an ink pad These self inking date stamps, (SID), have a code letter or number at the top and the words POST OFFICE at the base and the most noticeable difference is the double lined woven outer corcle. The code letter at the top identifies the hand stamp, as this is a fixed part of the device and cannot be changed. Office details ... Post Town 1637 Money Order Office 1 October 1792 Numeral 267 allocated 1844 Savings Bank 30 October 1861 Telegraph Office 1870. Code used = DU --------------------------------------------------- The earliest example from Durham in the database at this time known in use from the 27 March 1767 to 1786 Sorry for the small picture - the best I have at this time ... There are a number of other marks / variations associated with this place, but I will let the reader take a look for themselves ..... Still working away .... and everything to this stage now listed ... Allan

Search result=0 Threadneedle St. 1902 Hexagon PERFIN AB (unknown in my perfin database) Information from our Canadian member, Mr. Blair Stannard. Also, from the Free Dictionary (Farlex). Threadneedle Street Street in the City of London, England, running eastwardsfrom the Bank of England. The name of the street probably indicates that the property once belonged to the Needlemakers' Company (The Worshipful Company of Needlemakers). The dramatist Richard Sheridan gave the Bank of England the nickname ‘the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street’. Thread- needle Street is a corruption of " Three-Needle- Street," so called from the arms of the Needle Makers' Company. Blair
