Now I guess I need the supplements! There are 4 supplements on eBay. Does each supplement include what was in the previous volumes? Or does one need to buy all 4?

If you go with the 1987 edition, then you could theoretically use all of the supplements, as they are not cumulative. The supplements are collected into the 2-volume second edition, so if you go with that one, you wouldn't need the supplements.

Here, you are on the cutting edge of Philately, you may need to join a specialists club to get the good oil. There is a catalogue which lists general classifications, but the discipline is so broad, they can only touch the surface. Example : Your "Provincial Page" has a Douglas Isle of man, that lists on cover between £400 - £1,100 and "cut squares around 1/3 of that.Your "Newport Isle of Wight" just has a ? suggesting these very rarely surface All guessing on my part, this is way outside my knowledge, but what you have is Super! First off, I would suggest you protect these immediately, and put them under plastic mounts for protection. Your Maltese Cross with "LS" at the top, are all from the "Lombard Street" Post office in London. Other codes I'll have to read further Here is an old copy of what may be a good start............

Thanks, Rod. I have that one, so I'll reread it. I can't find anything online. Here's what the guy on eBay listed it as:UK GREAT BRITIAN EXT RARE STUDY COLLECTION PREPAID POSTMARKS PREPHILATELIC QV If you re-mount them, keep them in order as on the pages, they are fairly correct, I cannot find examples of his "house of commons" , I think they look like "CH" = Charing Cross (Branch Office) The book takes some understanding, Use the "Contents" list, as the general list for your "Cut Squares" use that hierarchy. Example: Your Branch offices Maltese Crosses, are under 1. The General Post 1661-1840 (Item 7 in my book on page 6) price £2.50 in 1983 Your initialled circles £10 each I think you bought well, a tidy investment.

I have only ten pages, and the pages themselves seem to go up to at least #18, so there are probably more floating around out there.

"only" 10 pages ? There is months of work, in that little lot. Keep in as dry a humidity as possible, some of your pages evidence "rust" or "toning".''

Move to Calgary! ha ha Winter's coming, the highest humidity reading I have had all year on my gauge indoors (on second floor) was 37%, in the depths of winter it gets so low indoors that the gauge borks and reads 4% (it seems to go haywire around 14% and never reads anything other than 4% once it gets too low). No foxing here, I don't think the fungus responsible can survive at such low humidity levels. I do store some of my stamps in a basement room (never against a wall that borders against the outdoors, though) but it is well insulated and has two heat registers in it, so it never gets too much cooler than the rest of the house. On page 250, he mentions Billig Philatelic Handbook, Volumes 34 and 35. Went online and bought them. (Billig's Philatelic Handbook. Volume 34, 35. Calgary must have its own problems, when your stamps freeze, don't they fall off the hinges?

zipperNow I am doubly envious A major dream of mine is to own a full library of Billigs. (>$1,000) you will have great fun reading these tomes, they are fascinating. I am currently in Stamp rehab, I went $300 over budget in my purchases recently. I have cancelled all my auction sites, and go outside for deep breaths, when I get the urge to purchase.

You could start a registry for Billig's, and tell your family and friends that all Xmas & birthday presents should come from there.

When we get the cold -40 weather I have been known to place smoke smell stamps into a plastic container and leave it outside for a week. I often wonder if this extreme cold would kill rusting and foxing.

Not sure what it says underneath LONDON but I thought this was a nice SON strike. Parcel Postmark (as one would guess with the value of the stamp) London Chief Office single ring parcel postmark Previously had been double ring, that made messy pmks on stamps.
