Yikes! Way out of my sphere Zipper, that's out in the stratosphere. Shall politely refrain from making a comment, which at best would only be a guess or opinion.

I verified the postmarks using my book - The Postal History of Great Britain and Ireland by R. M. Willcocks. The book is old so the prices don't apply but the postmarks are still the same. Looks like Figure 97 at the bottom left. The rate marking of "2", I have seen and have on Stampless Letters in my collection. On the next page the Figure 97 postmark is listed as being in use between 1802-24 and known in black or red. Other colors are worth twice value.

Scotland Edinburgh Penny Post - Castle Street to Howe Street, dated DEC 12 1826. A legal letter. I like the Rate handstrucks from Scotland. "James Dunlop Esq" "W.S." If any member has an idea what "W.S" indicates, it would be appreciated. (Grrr! to acronyms) I would not think "West Scotland" with just a street name.Google was my friend. The WS Society is Scotland's independent association for lawyers and one of the oldest professional bodies in the world with over 500 years of history. Today the Society supports the latest generation of lawyers and legal businesses, with professional support lawyer (PSL) and research services, training, accreditation, networking and events. www.thewssociety.co.uk/WS = Writers to the signet. The Society of Writers to Her Majesty’s Signet is a private society of Scottish solicitors, dating back to 1594 and part of the College of Justice. Writers to the Signet originally had special privileges in relation to the drawing up of documents which required to be signeted, but these have since disappeared and the Society is now an independent, non-regulatory association of solicitors. The Society maintains the Category A listed Signet Library, part of the Parliament House complex in Edinburgh, and members of the Society are entitled to the postnominal letters, WS. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_Writers_to_Her_Majesty%27s_SignetThe contents of the letter, would relate to a case of transfer of property to offspring, amongst severl contestants, which is on-line...........

1911 "Glad you like your Ferns, hope they will grow" Once again, indications of the Ladies interest in that age, the "Fern" era. The beginnings of female emancipation.

I have gone on Google street view holidays. I been all around London last week I often wonder if with all the old photographs would it be possible to have a 1800's Google view.

April 21, 1797 - Northallerton rimless handstruck on Free Frank Front signed by the 1st Baron Delevel at lower left. Originally charged 8d manuscript but crossed out and sent free from Northallerton to Duke Street, Portland Place, London. This is one you can visit on google street view ! The red handstruck says Free at the top with the date in the center.
