zipper Your DIDCOT squared circle postmark. Some information from Rod's "useless Information handbook" Didcot Population 1840 = 203 The Williams Formula 1 teams’ first factory was in Didcot. It originally employed just 17 people. They won 5 of their 7 world drivers championships from here. The Baptist Union of Great Britain is based in Didcot, as is the central office of The Girls’ Brigade. Didcot claims the second oldest yew tree in the country, at 1600 years old. Amazingly, it has not lost the will to live. DIDCOT n. The small, oddly-shaped bit of card which a ticket inspector cuts out of a ticket with his clipper for no apparent reason. It is a little known fact that the confetti at Princess Margaret's wedding was made up of thousands of didcots collected by inspectors on the Royal Train. Note: Your Postcard Mavagassey = Mevagissey

zipper Wow! South Petherton. First sighting of this one That's where my Mom and Dad were betrothed. (Never heard of "Little Petherton" ) Ah! Beautiful Somerset, so nice, even Jesus made a visit with Joseph of Arimathea..... and singing along..... And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green: And was the holy Lamb of God, On England's pleasant pastures seen!

The codes at the top that I have recorded are +, A, B These may be to identify different handstamps that were all very similar or may just be a code used on a daily / weekly basis or assigned to a specific clerk No real way of knowing The period of use I have confirmed is 7 October 1919 to 16 June 1920 However, earlier dates must exist as the Army Post Office was opened up for civilian use on the 4 February 1919 Hope this helps .... Allan Stumbled across these

zipper . This looks like the gentleman, he passed away a year later. (details from the Peerage) Weymouth was our closest beach to home, know it well. Weymouth "The Barracks" from cursory research was some sort of rehabilitation centre, for the military. The ANZACS were there in 1914 > Perhaps Captain Burgoyne was suffering conflict wounds? he was 48yo

Admin Pmk Souldern Oxfordshire. It is just 11 miles to a place called "Banbury" When I was a nipper, all the kids would form a circle, hold hands, and sing nursery rhymes............ One was "Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross" Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross, To see a fine lady upon a white horse; Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, And she shall have music wherever she goes

Burnham Somerset and Axbridge Don't know much about North Somerset, not heard of Burnham before. Sometime between 1904 and 1944, name changed to "Burnham-on-Sea" it appears. 2nd highest tidal range in the world (36 feet) second only to the Bay of Fundy, Canada. Axbridge Part of our King's (Alfred) defence against those pesky Vikings. Axbridge pageant The house behind the ladies, is a Tudor House, still standing, (now a Museum)

Half past midnight here ... but I have saved those additional postmarks to my hard drive and they should start appearing in the database from tomorrow.
As always I check the items prior to getting them listed, which takes some extra time, but I will get them done ASAP

Just a quick update on the Postmark database ...
Some more have been added today ... scans for places already listed, updates for listed items and a few new entries. The number of British marks is now over 15,800, (signature line updated), and just over 13,100 illustrated
As with any project of this type, it could not be done without help from collectors working together .. in effect I am no more than the collator of the information. With that in mind, to all who have offered help, be it a single known code or date extension to those that have provided masses of scans and information, .... I tip my hat and say thank you for the help and information that you have all been willing to share with other collectors.
My target for this year is to get 85 percent of the listing illustrated and to reduce the number that require illustrations to around 3,500
This is no easy task, and if anyone is willing to search out pictures of some of the missing items, (a link to a list of these is on the site), I will be happy to add them in with the details
With thanks ... Allan
