So, no hints from the filename, I see... I hope that isn't a cataloging system.

cjd-Correct! As a teaching point (not for you cjd, but for the lurkers. ), here is Scott 123 which has Die II. The Unknown- Scott 123a is a Die I.

For anyone who is wondering, here is Mr. Blue's stamp marked up to show the die spotting features: A= Die II is missing a bud on the lower left corner scrollwork Here is Die I with the bud in place: B= Die II has curved inner corners at the top of the side tablets. Die I has squared off corners. C= Die II has vertical ends of the frame line that is interrupted by the crown. Die I has angled ends to the frame line: These are the three features that Scott and SG agree upon. Scott includes a fourth, in that the crown on Die I sits lower, sinking into the violet background around George's portrait. On Die II the crown sits more or less level with the top of the violet background. These features work for George, not Victoria, and just to keep it interesting, not for all Georges. The catalogues will tell you when there is a variation from this (e.g., Ceylon). Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. I believe BC has a Unicef set currently up for identifying. (Sorry for the drift.)

I intentionally omitted it cjd The set was issued for postage without the specimen overprint. Let's try specimens for the May 8, 2002 set of 4 commemorating the UN Special Session on Children and the Convention on Rights of the Child (Tuvalu Scott 882-885).

Way to go Steve!
Apparently the stamps were a complete local design and production and sent to Ireland (I believe) for printing. It was not until after they were received by the Philatelic Bureau in Tuvalu that they (the Tuvaluans) realized they forgot to put on the country name. Due to the great expenses involved in the production, they decided to place them on sale anyway.

You know how cancels have a sixth sense for seeking out and obscuring spotting features, so it is nice to have some features scattered about the face of the stamp, greatly increasing the chances that one of them will be useful.

Just a guess, but maybe Philippines? "Convention on the rights of the child" UNICEF....wait wait.... No, I'm wrong. It's Tuvalu 2002. I should have paid attention to the coat of arms. I have no idea about any catalog number....wait wait..... It's SG - Number(s): 1043-6. (Specimen, of course). .... wait wait.... Why do I have this sinking feeling? ...wait wait... Folks have already identified the stamps. Aaaargh!

Here's another modern stamp that's tricky because it's missing a country name (although it might be generous to call it a stamp - it's something kind of along the lines of the sand dune stamps, but it is listed in the Scott catalogue). Ryan

Has to be St Thomas and Prince Island ? Hehehe .....................Scott 850 from a miniature sheet. Yes, an odd issue. There are four stamps in the set, and the other three have the country name on the stamp. Somehow they forgot to put it on the fourth one! Ryan

Hmmmm - The only other that immediately comes to mind is Tokelau. I'll have to put some thought into this one Yep! 1999 souvenir sheet. The name is on the souvenir sheet, but not on the stamp!

Sc#59 with inverted center? If there is a Waffle House in Palm Beach, then you might be able to get lunch. For yourself.
Of course, if you list it on eBay with just the right description, you might end up with a nice place on Ocean Boulevard. You can always dream...

Correct. Scott has a note- "....inverted centers exist in the 1902 and 1903 issues. Most of these were issued from Paris, and some are said to have been fraudulently printed" I do like waffles.

Looking out at my thermometer, I can safely say that cold is relative.
Having just checked the interwebz, it is not that relative...it is currently -17F / -27C in what was the principal city in this stamp's "country." Brrrr.

You guys, of course, are correct- Siberia. Appropriate, as we have been without power this afternoon/evening because of an ice storm on top of a snow storm. Freezing in the dark.
