Norway Saint Olaf, "The Fat" (Includes, for those of the Lexicon Larrikins club, "Word of the Week".... Tatterdemalion, a great word: Tatterdemalion = Ragamuffin.)

Wow, that 30 øre stamp is a nice one. I hadn't recalled seeing it before, so I looked it up in the Scott catalogue and noticed that it has a catalogue value in excess of $1, which justifies why I haven't seen it in my mountainous piles of dross. ha ha

Norway World War ll Norwegian Resistance Movement Articles "Antiques Roadshow" BBC 2015 Norwegian Stamp with Microfilm underneath (Not that I doubt the provenence of such an emotional article, but the CDS postmark ring does not match the ring on the paper, which is worth concern) Ordinary Typewritten letter, blue portions reveal instructions in Invisible Ink The very brave and courageous operative.

Norway bears! The vast majority of my stamp purchases for my worldwide collection are "piles of stuff" - I seldom target specific issues. Once in a while, though, I'll see something somewhere that I must have for whatever reason, and that's the case with these Norway bears. These stamps were issued in support of Roald Amundsen's attempted flight to the North Pole, which didn't go so well. There is a good article on the Linn's website which gives more philatelic info regarding these stamps, considered at the time by Scott's Stamp Monthly to be "blots on stamp collections. Unfortunately, these miserable things are available for postage ...". Blots or not, I'm thrilled to have them. So where's the 7th stamp, the 3 øre orange? Somewhere, someplace, or one or the other, or either or neither or both. Well, it's definitely somewhere, I bought the complete set and all of them ended up in one of my various "soak it someday" piles to clean up gum and hinge remnants off the back. 6 of them bubbled up to the top recently, the 7th stamp is somewhere further down the same box, I'm sure. Here are the 6 I've come across so far, all used copies which have a higher catalogue value than hinged mint due to the relatively scarcity with which they were put to postal use. Ryan

There is a predicted winter storm in the mountains on Sunday. We have to take a longer trip home as the Hardangervidda will be closed. But next week I will be posting some old Norwegian posthorn stamps. 👍😊

Neglecting of my own! In comparison I believe I've revisited my Canada collection about 8 times😊 I could however share some of the classics in my sons albums (I gave them my DUP's in attempt to get them addicted, much in vain!). My oldest have Scott #1-10 and more. He enjoyed it for about 3 months....

renden - Here's the only classic I have scanned - Norway no.1 - 1855. Nothing special about the stamp itself. I simply bought it because it has the numeral cancellation '14' - so used in my hometown Arendal

I have a plan to translate a Norwegian posthorn key. 😳 It will include Scott, michel and Facit numbers. But I guess three will be missing a lot of numbers on scott and michel compared to the norwegian catalogue 'Norgeskatalogen'.

I have some of Handlerkatalogen to, but have not looked into them. I think the stamps are there, but with no explanation or reference to other catalogues. But the stamp numbers is the same as 'Norgeskatalogen'. More of this next week when I'm at home.

I start with two posthorn stamps that you must not mix up 12 øre green issued 1-1-1877. Cat value on this is €16. (Michel) NK 26 Michel NO 26 Scott NO 26 Yvert et Tellier NO 26 Stanley Gibbons NO 55 AFA number NO 26 The expencive one was issued 2-1-1884. Cat value is €350,- (Michel) NK 44 Michel NO 38 Scott NO 41 Yvert et Tellier NO 40 AFA number NO 38 So how to tell the difference? Green (Nk26) and Matt green (Nk44) But what to look after is how the 'bell' is engraved.
