What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

When eggdog offered a giveaway of the handsome 1947 set I thought I should check to see if I needed any of the set. The problem with having a rather substantial world wide collection you forget what you have. Much to my delight I found I have several nice mint never hinged sets from the 1940’s. The bulk of my Norway collection is used. These must have come with an auction job lot at some time. I especially like the colours and design of the 1942-44 official stamps.

Norway 1964 Lottery ticket / Postage stamp Combo - Michel number 518. I don’t have the complete piece - only the bottom part mint, cancelled and on piece. The three sections are separated by rouletted perforations. I added a picture of a complete piece on the bottom left.

My Norway collection has been getting a big boost this month. I recently received a mint collection that filled about a hundred empty spaces PLUS I can’t believe I won this set of 1943 London overprints with certificate to boot. I’m partial to margin copies so the selvage was an added bonus. They were hinged on the selvage so the stamp itself is no hinge. FYI The London overprints were sold during the war to raise money for the Resistance and are the most rare of the Norwegian WWII issues. A big thank you to my EBay buyers - their purchases made this auction win possible. Doing a happy dance!

Catalog value in Michel MNH €1200 And with certificate, wow.

A few pages from my modern Norway commemoratives dual mint/used collection. I try to find used copies with CDS cancels that are postally used. Norway courtesy cancels - ie - CTO were available back then, but Postally used are generally considered more desirable. The top set in picture below has obvious first day cancels, so probably soaked off A FDC. Second set are CTOs. These are attractive copies, but I try to avoid adding these types of cancels in favor of postally used with clear dates from the appropriate time frame. It’s a fun challenge to keep trying to upgrade the quality of cancels which is much easier to do when the collection is on Vario, Hagners or hingeless albums. So even if I “have” a stamp in my collection, looking at other copies hunting for better centering, cancels, etc makes buying collections really productive as far as improving the quality of my collection. No page is ever “done.”
