Hi Rodney
Regarding the Souvenir Sheet. I believe A.F.E. is for Asociacion Filatelica Ecuatoriana (there is also Asociación de Futbolistas del Ecuador but this isn't for them).
I never saw an Ecuatoriana aircraft with that paint job. When we flew from Quito to Tulcan the local airline plane was a WW II British camouflaged propeller aircraft. As we taxied the nun next to me took out her rosary and said her prayers. When we got in the air she put everything away. That really makes one feel warm and fuzzy.
Now flying is Lan Ecuador,TAME and TACA.

Ecuador 1966 Attracts comments "Questionable Postal Validity" Michel Catalogue # 1292-1294 Completed missed in the Scott Catalogue, picked up brilliantly by Mr. Bill Steiner. Kepler Galilleo Satellite San Marco Would slot in after Scott # 758E Note : In Scott Catalogue, all "questionable postal validity" issues AIR POST, are found under the general listings, not under B.o.b. AIR POST. Steiner adopts this regime. (Steiner page 28 "Progress of Italy in Space" )

Ecuador. An extraordinary stamp. 1977 "Broadcast Tower" 5 sucre I first noticed the punched hole in the back, yet the paper seemed to be slit in half thickness wise, how could that be ? The scanner has picked up the repair to the front, but why? on such a common stamp. (probably engineered from 2 damaged stamps, to make a space filler?)

ID I've studied these rotters for so long, I need a break. These are my guesses, my opinions. Quite confident genuine Scott #9 Noted 3 common identifiers 1. Right hand leg of "U" is longer 2.Left hand leg of "A" is longer 3. Shading intrudes into Right Hand Spandrel 4. 87 lines around circular ring (This stamp has a torn bottom Right Hand Corner, and has been repaired by adding paper) Scott #5 Genuine 1. Flag droops and is not a blob 2. 2 lines go into the sun LHS 3. line leaves sun RHS and breaks into 2 rays Scott #4 Forgery Indistinct printing Scott #4 Genuine (just a guess) Scott #2 Genuine (guess)

Your thread (as usual) led me to have a look at my stock pile of Ecuadorian stamps, which sadly is small. But I found this handsome postage due. Watermarked 1898, but I fear it may the a cheaper reprint. The only clue I have is thick paper. Nice anyway. [BROKEN IMAGE LINK(S) REMOVED]

An ideal opportunity for you to inspect the watermark and paper weave !! Beautiful work by the Rose engine, I'd love to see an articifer up close when they manufactured those dies. I reckon (picky picky) the engraver had a fail with the shading of the chunky lower frame I had to continually look at it for some time to see what he/she was trying to achieve. If the left had matched the right it would have been better in my opinion. I am sending you my duplicates. Gibbons: Recess : Hamilton bank note Co NY Wmk : Phrygian cap OR No watermark These stamps have been reprinted, the colour is too bright, and does not match the deep blue-green of the originals.

Hi James
As my friend said: If it is pretty it is probably a Seebeck and if raggedy it is probably real. Unfortunately most of these issues are Seebecks, especially on real thick paper. However, the gum is also applied thickly and may give a false impression of thick paper.

Here is another surcharged revenue stamp (two, actually-Forbin 131)...this time it stayed a revenue: Bienio translates as biennium (2 years), but I don't know if it carries another connotation in the revenue-stamp context.

It would appear via Forbin, that the fiscal stamps each had a validity of just 2 years before a new opt was brought into practice, perhaps a control measure? Jerry may have the answer. 1909-1910 Issue (1 of 9 in set)

I agree with the two-year observation. Forbin lists stamps either revised to include a two-year period within the design, or overprinted, for many consecutive two-year stretches.
There is a Resellado ("Restamped") overprint used around this same time, which was a control mark. It seems that Bienio was just using up past-date stocks for the next two-year period.

I was wondering if one of you could help me ID this stamp. I have looked all over and see the overprint, but not just the stamp.
Thanks in advance

Hi reena
It is not listed in Scott as it is a revenue. I looked in Minkus and Stanley Gibbons and it is not listed there either.

Thank you for checking in Minkus and SG. It is listed in an old Forbin book. I've not heard of Forbin, but I did google and it came up. Low value stamp, 10 cents. Drove me nuts trying to find it. I do have two others that I'm trying to research. When I get feed up I'll post them and see if I can get help again.

Hi Rodney
Are you sure?? Look at the year inscription. There is no year "tablet". I thought I found the stamp in my Minkus until I realized that the stamp shown has no "tablet".
Steve: I looked at he Forbin listing and it is very very similar to the Minkus listing. From what I see that stamp is not there either. I wish I had an old Ecuador Cstaldi catalog to see if it is listed there(been looking for one for years).
