Do you think your steamship cancel could be S.S. Toloa? S.S. Telda is another option, though it apparently didn't enter service until 1927.

That's interesting Collin, your reply suggests you have a list ? I think neither, the pmk is very grainy , washed out. I would guess it begins with a "T", and ends with "ES", there is maybe an slanted upstroke, suggesting a "V" or "W" in the mix Here is 800 dpi

Aha ! Gotcha! Found the list.... "SS Tivives" Poor girl lies at the bottom of the Mediterranean, after being torpedoed Genealogy Tivives is a port and inlet located in the district of Caldera, Canton Esparza , Puntarenas province , on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica , 5 miles south of the port of Caldera . PS: On the Postcard image "TES Talamanca " = Acronym TES = Turbine Electric Steamer

Hi Rodney The red star is an overprint from the 1000 days war. Jerry B From Jerry's previous notes: It is a Cartagena overprint. It did not come from any other overprint. During the 1000 days war, 1899 - 1902, stamps were overprinted in Cartagena. The overprints consist of: Blue Stars Parallel wavy lines Box with double line border with script between. May see only a partial box unless one has a block. Red chain across stamp A single red star Magenta wavy lines en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_Days'_War Jim Cross was a friend and the founder of COPAPHIL. His two Exponent exhibits are well worth looking at: www.japhila.cz/hof/0382/index0382a.htmwww.japhila.cz/hof/0371/index0371a.htmJerry B

Hi Rodney
No problem. I have waited for years for a listing so a little longer would not hurt. Worst comes to worst just copy the CD to the cloud and I'll try to pick out what I want.
BTW: 1983 to 2005 is great. It supplements what I now have. The last Temprano entry is 1979.

Hi Rodney
Referring to the stamp from Boyaca, it is my wife's province.
Referring to the Catedral del Sal (Salt Cathedral), that is in Zipaquira Cundinamarca which is the province that the capital Bogota is in. It is really a salt mine and you can hear them mining below you. There is about a 1/2 mile to a mile walk through a tunnel to get to the cathedral. It's unbelievable what was carved from the salt. We have a chunk of the salt rock at home.
Interesting tidbit referring to the San Andreas Islands. My wife tells me that even though it belongs to Colombia the official language is English. I am sure the "natives" speak Spanish however.
The Stamp Collector's Magazine shows what is called a Cubierta. It is like a certified stamp and was "pasted" onto an envelope. Most used ones are pretty "ratty" because of that. There are fakes and not all provinces issued them. Actually what is shown is a piece of a Cubierta.
The "chunk" of the provisional is Temprano Antioquia catalog number 86.
Another Jerry List.
According to Temprano 1890 Provisional Issue, Perf 14, colored paper
86 2.5c black, straw paper 10 varieties 87 5c black , yellow paper 20 varieties 88 10c black, buff paper 10 varieties 88a 10c black, rose paper 10 varieties 89 20c black, yellow paper 20 varieties
Interestingly no one defines the types and I haven't found out where to get the information. Probably I could ask the Collector's club in Bogota or one of the dealers I know.

Hi Rodney Please put tildes where they belong in Spanish. A nos is Ass and A ños is Years I learned a long time ago Spanish marks are important. When I was first learning Spanish, on New Year's eve I was saying Happy New Ass instead of Happy New Year. Of course everyone laughed and after a period of time they finally told me what I said wrong. However, a close friend said that the former statement may be appropriate if one has rear end problems Jerry B

Hi Rodney First time I have seen the "Retardo" on piece, especially with 2 "normal" ones. Jerry B Wow! thanks Jerry, that's a feather in my cap! First time for me to handle any of those bits and pieces, I have some "bisects" but cannot find any information on those, I'll need to dig out Stanley Gibbons, see if they reference any. Taking a rest from Argentina, and mounting early Colombia that have been in glassines in order but not mounted, I had to source a bunch of cheap Hawids, which I have now done.

Hi Rodney
If you do find any information on bisected Colombian stamps let me know. I have yet to find something. However, when I last looked there was no internet.
Re: Steiner Page 24 "The Sabana Station" stamps come different papers (thick and thin, color) and different perfs. The others have different variations.

Hi Rodney
Thanks for the links. The COPACARTA is from COPAPHIL (Colombia-Panama Study Group to which I used to belong).
Scott defines some of the variations but of course Barriga & Temprano do it better. I will be sending you a listing by e-mail.

Jerry B Thanks Jerry, I like to place stamp varieties on my Steiner pages, even Scott unlisted, I like my pages to be informative (I place "heads up" advice also in my page margins, which you do not see in my scans) to advise on Valuable varieties, forgery hints etc If the varieties are numerous, then I'll make a dedicated page. Scott mentions varieties of the Lithographed "Provisional" angles, but do not list them (1920-1921) I may need to draft a new page for those. Rodney

For Study Bisects Notes: 1 is on genuine company printed envelope stationery 2 is on plain stiffish manila paper. 3. Not sure why any collector would soak off a bisect? Why is the bisect so sharp? not a scissor cut, did they have scalpels back then? raises concern. Why would one bisect a 3 centavo issue? What rate required half a centavo?

Hi Rodney Barriga mentions, and illustrates, only 2 angles, "less slanted" and "very slanted". Temprano, however, states that the "less slanted" is 14° and the "very slanted"is 45°.
