Well, get up and go through the postcard albums. Start with the one on the desk, it's the latest.

This was "Yesterday," an exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry, which was one of the original buildings of the 1893 Columbian Exhibition. Located at 57th and Hyde Park Boulevard in Jackson Park. It even had a working Nickelodeon... This brings back memories of my childhood. Science and Industry was my favorite museum and I can vividly recall watching Charlie Chaplin in Main Street's Nickelodeon. The coal mine and U-505 were some others that kept me entertained.

Where did you live in Chicago? I still go to Hyde Park to hang in the summer occasionally. I love the Windemere, the large building on 56th and Hyde Park Boulevard, and eat in the restaurant so I can stare out the window and imagine the 1893 Exhibition is happening. Walk over to 57th Street beach too because that's where I went as a kid.
They're going to remove the coal mine -- kids no longer care about such things. However, they've added an Imax.

Where did you live in Chicago?... I grew up in Cicero. I left for school/work in 1970 and have only been back for short visits since then.

WOW, talk about memories. I too grew up in Chicago on the SW side by Midway airport. Spent countless hours downtown admiring the buildings and the drawbridges.

I, too, grew up on the South Side -- 51st and California. (White Sox fan.)
Moved to Old Town in 1973. Never looked back. Am in Lincoln Park now, by the Goethe Statue, by Diversey Harbor. A short walk to Fullerton Beach and the zoo.

It's a year ago today that Doe moved in, so we went to sit on the rocks in Lincoln Park and relax watching Lake Michigan bob up and down.

Are you a fan? He played at the Earl of Old Town. Did you see him there? I've been a fan for a very long time. Back in 1973 (based on the songs in the set list that I remember), he toured with John Prine and KINK-FM in Portland broadcast the concert given there. My parents taped it and those tapes were played repeatedly on road trips. I did see him in Calgary twice before he died - the second time he was already pretty sick and no longer had any hair. Ryan

A short walk to Fullerton Beach and the zoo. Zipper, I just wanted to say thanks for all of these beautiful posts. I have been slowly working my way through them, trying to see which places I can recognize. I am not from Chicago, but I lived there in 1984-1985, and really enjoyed it. Part of me wishes that I had stayed longer. I used to be big into distance running in those days, and I ran my first marathon (America's Marathon Chicago) there. I saw a Bulls game at the old Chicago Stadium, and I remember that they had some new kid named Jordan.... I wonder whatever became of him? Also went to the old Comiskey Park to watch the Sox, and to Wrigley Field (still before they had the lights) to see the Cubs, who had a big year in 1984. I used to like to sneak out of work early on a Friday and catch a Cubs home game which started at 3pm. Anyway, thanks for some great posts in this thread. I will continue to look through them, until I've seen 'em all!
