My Oranges Philately collection seems to be in constant motion.
I have found that hinges cut from the adhesive strip of post-its to be a felxible and doable alernative to glue sticks.

I have found that hinges cut from the adhesive strip of post-its to be a felxible and doable alernative to glue sticks. I think Post-It note hinges would be a way to mount stamps and not have hinge damage to the glue. I like that idea. Surprised someone hasn't come up with Post-It note hinges.
My local dealer bought an entire collection secured to an album with scotch tape pieces rolled into rings. For the newer self-adhesives with backing paper there is only the slightest bit of damage to the backing paper, and I'm buying stamps for cheap. Once they're in a mount, I never see the back anyway.

Andy and all - please note my post it hinge note applies to affixing mounts and not naked stamps.

Post it notes are designed for short-term application not for long term use and in my view shouldn't be used anywhere near a stamp album. There is something called a stamp hinge that is designed for stamps that does the job perfectly.
Equally (as has been mentioned many times before) there is glue on one side of a stamp mount. Why there is an need to a use glue sticks etc. is beyond me.
Make me think that newcomers reading this will not realise this and if using clear mounts, will be viewing 50% of their stamps through the glued side of the mount!
Just my opinion.

Make me think that newcomers reading this will not realise this and if using clear mounts, will be viewing 50% of their stamps through the glued side of the mount! Just my opinion. The reason to use glue sticks is two-fold:
1. A glue stick lacks any water, so it will not curl or buckle the paper of your stamp album. 2. Because a glue stick lacks water, you can put the stamp in the mount and affix it to the page and not have to worry about water getting into the mount and activating the adhesive on the back of a stamp.
Using a glue stick or tape runner also doesn't require you to keep water or a wet sponge around your stamps.
And since I can glue mounts with the stamp in them, mounting stamps has gotten way faster. I no longer have to cut the mount, test fit the stamp, remove the stamp from the mount, glue the mount to the page, wait for it to dry and then re-insert the stamp.
Now I just put the stamp in the mount, add a small amount of glue to the page, stick the mount on and go on to the next one.

If you use HAWID mounts, you can easily feel the gummed vs non-gummed side. It is more subtle on Showgard and Prinz/Scott but easily seen. Optically there is little difference.

I only realised just how destructive scotch tape can be when I was given a small collection by a family member some years ago. I was really excited as the collection contained a number of better stamps (in the $50 to $100 range) that I needed for my collection. Even better, many of the stamps were unmounted and difficult to find in that condition. As a precaution, for the more valuable stamps the previous owner had taped the mounts to the page using scotch tape to completely enclose the mounts on all sides. Over the years capillary action had done its work, the glue from the tape had seeped in via the edges of the mounts and spread to the back of the stamps completely ruining them with a gooey mess!
On a related note, has anyone experimented with the self-adhesive Davo Easy Mounts.
SG is currently advertising them, however, as the video above s 6 years old, they must have been around for years.

I broke down a big collection recently that used these Davo easy mounts. In general, they work pretty well. My son removed most of them and found that you need to peel the stamp off them slowly and carefully, or the stamp (particularly if large) had a tendency to crease at the edge as it was removed. They claim to not disturb the gum or leave any marks on removal, and almost in all cases, they was the case - only exception was a few French colony stamps with brittle tropical gum.
So they are superior to (modern) hinges, but don't think I'd trust them long-term to not affect the gum, would use mounts instead.

I enjoyed the British accent in the Davo commercial.
Can you clarify this? It looks like a regular top loading mount with a self-adhesive rather than water activated so why would you expect a difference from any other top loaded mounts (no matter the gum). Is the adhesive across the full back of the mount. The video appears to show just pressing along the bottom. Were you removing the mounts from the page?
There is the concern by some of split backs leaving a tell tale line,

There is the concern by some of split backs leaving a tell tale line, Doh - my mistake - I was thinking of another product! The one I was thinking of is a two-sided adhesive "tape" that removes without any marks, or supposedly without disturbing the gum on removal. Not a mount - so just ignore my earlier comment
