These two stamps Scott 256-7 of Panama were produced for the first visit of Lindbergh to Panama and the Canal Zone. The red 2 cent stamp is the only stamp I have ever seen that was issued only with an overprint. I suspect the overprint in Spanish was added because the Panamanians felt more explanation was needed for the stamp.

According to Michel, the print of the 2 C. was of such a bad quality, that the inscription were illegible. Because of that the overprint was applied.

Actually, you can "guess" a text "Homenaje a Lindberg" on the lower part of the central circle. But, you have lo look for it!

This is a set of aircraft stamps that I have wanted for a long time, but never purchased because they were beyond the amount I was willing to spend for a topical collection. They still are, but I bought them anyway. They come in two formats, perforated and imperf. I bought the imperf as they sell for slightly less. They are air semi-postals, Latvia Sc. CB 21A - CB 24A
I have wanted this set for a long time because of the Grenville Brothers Gee Bee Super Sportster stamp (top left in the post below). The Gee Bee first flew in 1930 and was intended as a sport flying airplane, but used almost exclusively as an air racer. Only eight were built. The Latvia stamp issued in 1933 was the only one bearing an image of the Gee Bee until another appeared on a stamp of St. Vincent in 1999. Now the Stanly Gibbons Collect Airraft on Stamps lists additional Gee Bee stamps from Cuba, The Gambia, and the United States.
The other stamps show a Supermarine S6B racing seaplane, the Dornier DO-X flying boat, and LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin.
A concern about adding this set to my collection is its price. I fear that its value will be overlooked when it comes time for my heirs to sell my collections. It will probably be lumped in with the other $1 to $5 dollars aircraft stamps and purchased at about $2 for the set. Oh well not something I will be worrying about then.

Hello Don (stamphinger), Have you ever been to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.? When you walk into the lobby, if you look overhead, there's a GeeBee hanging upside down just like it's flown past a pylon... Great Latvia stamps, I've long admired those designs. Rob

Thanks, REL1948, been there many years ago, but don't remember the Gee Bee. Guess I need another visit.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

As I was sitting at home this morning I heard the familiar sound of the vintage Avro Lancaster doing one of it’s seasonal weekend flights from the Canadian War Plane Museum down near Hamilton, Ontario. www.warplane.com/aircraft/collection/details.aspx?aircraftId=4 You too can take an hour ride for 3900.00 CDN per person. These planes were featured in 1980 Canada Military Aircraft series. If you look close you can see it as I saw it this morning passing over my building.

Another nice joint issue I got was the UAMPT set from 1963: The aircraft on these stamps is rather non-descript, but at least it fits the theme.

150 years since the birth of Mozhaisky. Alexander Fedorovich Mozhaisky - Russian military leader, rear admiral, inventor, aviation pioneer. He designed and built the first in Russia and one of the world's first full-scale aircraft. According to some reports, Mozhaisky's plane was able to separate from the ground during tests.
