We all know that stanley64 is eagerly awaiting to see the penguins on the new TAAF issues, so let him wait no longer. This year they are part of a block commemorating the 65 years of the establishment of the Territory.

I must admit Xavier ( hrdoktorx ) the latest TAAF offering is somewhat disappointing to POSSU member; maybe it looks better in person ;-)
In the meantime, here is another bird-on-stamp, for the thread,
Port Stanley, Falkland Islands dated 23 March 1977 - New coinage issue featuring a Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua) Letter addressed to W-Germany paying the then 5p postage rate (International Letter Rate < 20 gr.)
For those curious, the "QCSPL" found in the selvedge stands for Questa Colour Security Printers Limited and produced the series of five stamps in 1975.
Happy collecting!

Another set from the Palestinian Authority. They offered such nice designs in the early days, mostly from the Bundesdruckerei or Cartor.

I agree. Not their best year. There were a couple of scientific-themed issues more attuned to my wheelhouse, but I've known (much) better!

Continuing with the House of Questa printings, here is a lovely sheet of Chinstrap Penguins (Pygoscelis antarctica),
South Georgia and South Sandwich, Chinstrap Penguin (Pygoscelis antarctica). Issued 19 November, 1999; 1p, Perforated 14 x 14, Pane of 50.
By collecting large blocks or even full sheets of a single issue, one can visually replicate a colony of penguins.
All that is missing is sound track...
Happy collecting!

And, lastly, some nice birds. The Cameroon stamp in the middle is a re-issue of the same design during the "United Republic" period, and again fills in a long-gaping hope in my collection. , renden!

Yesterday I received some stragglers from my now-closed French subscription. One set is worthy of a post, this booklet of 12 self-adhesive stamps showing animal footprints, of which there are two of birds. The canard colvert (top row, fourth from left, mallard in English) and the manchot papou (bottom left corner, Papuan penguin). Manchot is a double-meaning word in French that can mean both a penguin or a person with one (or both) arms missing, which are not too far apart in concept, in my opinion. The stamp side of the booklet: Since I'm sure stanley64 would like to know, the penguin also makes an appearance on the back side of the booklet: For good measure, here's a zoom of the stamp with the penguin footprints:

stanley64 's reminder about World Penguin Day 2021 in the TSF Lounge had me wondering how many times penguins have been featured on U.S. stamps. The answer appears to be, only once. These Emperor Penguins appeared in the June 1, 2015 Wildlife issue; the same design was used in both pane and coil format. The tagged, serpentine die cut 10¾ self adhesive stamp from a pane of 20 is Scott 4989 (shown below). The serpentine die cut 11 vertical coil stamp is Scott 4990. Die cut and uncut press sheets of Scott 4989 were made available for sale.

Actually Steve ( tomiseksj), a penguin species has appeared twice on USA postage,
This second one features the King Penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) and was part of the Wild Animal series released on 01 October 1992 (Scott n.º 2708)
The booklet pane of five stamps featured four other animals including the giraffe, panda, flamingo and tiger.
What we do not know is if a penguin image or its likeness was ever including in a USA postmark or cancel?
If anyone has examples or knowledge of a cancel, please do share....
Happy collecting!

Vince, thanks for the correction! Scott's lack of consistency in its subject index failed me (i.e., "Penguins, Emperor" and "King Penguins").
