Birds on Stamps!

Today I received the latest St-Pierre-et-Miquelon issues, which included this stamp from the long-standing series on local birds, and this time featuring the purple sandpiper (Calidris maritima):

An exciting new arrival, this pair of stamps from Mauritania showing water birds and overprinted with the "World United Against Malaria" joint worldwide issue design. These are twins to the ones I already got on cover and showed here: thestampforum.boards.net/post/109827/thread . But the overprint is slightly different, with lines on the map here, as opposed to rectangles like on the cover. YT PA#20C-D:

The Cornell Labs eBirds site reports that these guys are to be found in Kazakhstan more than anywhere else, and all their crowd-source photographs are from there, but their map does show a small mark in southeastern Bulgaria where they've been known to show up. Here's the link. They say, "Song is a long-winded series of drawn-out whistles, warbles, and chatters. Calls include various buzzy and squeaky notes," which doesn't sound like a compliment.

If you're a birder, eBirds has probably made your head explode more than a few times. I'm usually content with watching the wild turkeys and mourning doves out the window, but when I need to know more, eBirds is something else.
