Here is one of the newer TAAF issues featuring a small group of emperor penguins, Aptenodytes forsteri (with guests) and I think I am the first on my block to receive one,
TAAF 2021 N°986
On June 11, 2021, the French Southern and Antarctic Territories issued an extra-program block on the occasion of the 43rd Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting.
The artist Sophie Beaujard was chosen to create this block, which gives pride of place to the biodiversity of Terre Adélie which includes the emperor penguin, the Weddell seal and the Antarctic tern.

Some of the "fillers" I got from my trip today at the stamp dealers, from the TAAF, featuring the ever-present penguins and other birds:  With these and a couple more stamps they got me, my number of missing TAAF issues is down to ONE ! It's YT #24, with a CV in the 500 Euro range, so not sure it will ever get added... |

Just to be sure, I checked, but it's just the paper for this series which is more fibrous than usual. The whole series is fifteen stamps.

No TAAF issue year would be complete without some iconic penguins, so here's a souvenir sheet showing a research project about them, held by the Institut Paul-Émile Victor (IPEV). Note that the small figure on the right of the stamp is not actually a penguin chick, but rather a robot disguised to be able to approach the animals in their natural habitat undisturbed.  |

Vichy France air mail issue for New Caledonia in 1944 (YT #PA53), hence never circulated. I really love that design. A pity it was never re-used later for actual postal service.  |

This pair of distinguished-looking 15-cent owls showed up in my recent mail and charmed me: Scott 1760 and 1761, from a set of four American Owls issued in 1978. Both were thankfully spared cancellation. Next to them is a Great Blue Heron on Scott 1921, another wildlife conservation theme, issued in 1981.  Apologies if any of these have been posted already in this excellent thread! |
