These birds arrived in my mailbox this afternoon. The 49c non-denominated, No. 10 Folk Art Eagle stamped envelope was issued January 12, 2015 (Scott U682). The Penguins on the 22c non-denominated first class additional ounce stamp were issued June 1, 2015 (Scott 4989; pane of 20) -- their coil stamp counterpart is Scott 4990 (coil of 100).

nice scans Tom ! Do you have plans to mount them or store them in vario pages? I'm keeping them in Vario pages for now but would like to organize an album with them in mounts. So far, I'm not sure where to get mounts of the right sizes and if I should leave the selvages or remove them. What is the usual practice, or is there one?

So far, I'm not sure where to get mounts of the right sizes and if I should leave the selvages or remove them. What is the usual practice, or is there one? There are selvage purists who cringe at the thought of removal, and those who believe the selvage detracts from the appearance of the stamps. It is your collection, so you do what feels right to you.
As to mounts, they can get very expensive. I usually buy Showgard brand from this site: Showgard Seconds. Although labeled "seconds" they are, for the most part, indistinguishable from the ones sold over the counter, and much cheaper so you can purchase a variety of sizes.

I watch for lots on ebay that have multiple sizes sometimes open packs.I started with an extremely large lot containing nearly every size that went for right around $130 hammer. Since I watch for similar lots with sizes that I see I'm running low on. Another good way to operate is bulk used mounts you simply use dollar store glue stick and re-use,a great way to get a good variety, although some sorting involved.

Thanks for the clarification and the link. The Showgard Seconds look like a much better deal than the regular ones so they are definitely on my list to try.

Japan's Yaba-Hita-Hiko Quasi National Park set, consisting of two 10 yen, multicolored, perf. 13 stamps, featured the Ao Cave area of Yabekei (Scott 676) and Hita, Mount Hiko, and a Great Cormorant (Scott 677). The stamps were issued on September 25, 1959. Below is a first day cover for the set, the associated card insert, and a close-up of the stamps and pictorial postmark.

The cormorant on the stamp is sitting on a fish basket I saw the cormorant fishermen on the north-west coast of Japan on one of my visits This picture, however, is in China, probably the Guangxi area based on those mountains in the background - one of the most beautiful areas anywhere. Not in the picture, but when fishing, the birds will have a retrieval ring around their necks which allows the bird to swallow little fish but not the "keepers" There is evidence this type of fishing existed in South America as far back as any Chinese knowledge. Yes, I digress- the birds on stamps

The Canada Goose is featured on this 15 cent ultramarine, perf. 12 definitive issued by Canada on October 30, 1963 (Scott 415). The stamp was designed by Angus Henry Shortt and typographed by Paul Arthur. The picture was engraved by Yves Baril and the letters by Donald J. Mitchell. A total of 106,260,000 stamps were printed using plates of 300 subjects in six panes of 50.
