Birds-on-Stamps fantasy cinderella stamp pictured on entrance ticket to the Philatelic Museum located in Tokyo, Japan. The hiragana characters in the lower right-hand corner of the stamp stand for "Mejiro" which is the name of the neighborhood or precinct in Tokyo where the museum is located. The ticket design is quite attractive as it gives the impression of a piece of postal history, with the date of the visit indicated in the fantasy postmark.

Very interesting BG I had a look on-line and the museum apparently has 350,000 worldwide stamps on display. nz.skygate-global.com/en-gb/blog/archives/1457en.japantravel.com/tokyo/philatelic-museum-mejiro-tokyo/10267"In this philatelic museum, 350,000 kinds of stamps are on display. These are not only Japanese stamps, but also stamps from countries all over the world. It is said that there are around 500,000-600,000 stamps worldwide, so more than half of the stamps are on display at this museum. You might be able to find stamps from your country, including the world’s first stamps issued in the UK among the collections here!"

Yes, the Philatelic Museum in Tokyo is a great place--I have been there several times over the years. I am planning a business trip to Japan later this month, and I am hoping to go back to the museum again for the first time in a while. I am also planning to take some photos and make some posts on TSF once I make that visit, so be on the lookout for a new thread on that subject a couple of weeks from now.

Found this odd PNG in kiloware - from 1970 Fauna conservation That series of bird of paradise stamps is one of my favourite sets of bird stamps. Those guys are handsome and funny all at once. I posted this video elsewhere (I think maybe on a PNG thread) but it's a great one and it fits with your post so I'll stick it into this thread too. Ryan

Ryan , Thanks for reminding me about the video. I had seen it before some time ago either posted or on the DAvid Attenborough programme. PNG brought out a set of 4 stamps and also 2 differing mini-sheets in 2008 - all bird of paradise. All re-vamped from 12 previous issues years 1964/65 and 2008)
