Moderator Note: This thread from 2015 originally titled Old Post Offices was merged with a new thread started by Robert (WERT ) in Sep-2020 and re-titled to its current name.
Not sure if there is a thread about this out there already, but I'll start one here. The missus and I were in the small town of Elora, Ontario today, and what was the first thing I spot but this beautiful stone Post Office. So naturally being the Perfaholic that I am, I HAD to snap some pics. Early George V era I suspect. Didn't see a cornerstone, but his initials are up top. And still in use. Let's see some more!

May one day pay for your trip. I noticed the Post Office is on the corner of one "Geddes" street, we have a Geddes Street in Perth, Yours was named after a Scottish family settling in the area. Sir Patrick Geddes was a Scottish pioneer town planner, who created "conurbation" Conurbation on stamps, there's a dedicated Thematic. One conurbation in England is "Kirklees" which name overtook 12 settlements / previous towns. Kirklees is the final resting place of one, Robin Hood.

How many degrees of separation?
Actually Elora is only a few kilometres from the town of Fergus, which hosts a Highland Games every summer. It's lovely area, and I'd actually never been to Elora before (which surprised the missus). We are already considering a return visit next year when the weather improves.

Not exactly an old post office, but an old mail route - a postcard that I picked up last weekend.

The old post office in Tintagel in Cornwall. Originally built about 1380 it has gone through many changes. Part of the National Trust now; retired from postal duty. I took this picture in 1991; I hope the roof hasn't caved in since.

I do believe though, that some of the tiles have been replaced or straightened !! Lovely building, beautiful village and county.

Yesterday I was on a day trip with our village 'Over 60's' Club. It was well organized and there were no Stamp 'stop-off's' for little old me. However I did spot this rather attractive Post Office in the German Colony of Haifa in Northern Israel just a short walk from the beautiful Baha'i Temple. I just knew I'd find something to post here !!

Let see some pictures of post offices in your country..Especially old 1800 types. This is a dual post office Canada/USA
Robert
Some of you may know about this dual Canada/USA post office, but I will post it for new collectors or any one else who does no know it existed.
The first post office was established on the border of Beebe Plain VT USA and Beebe Quebec, Canada. in 1864 .It was classified at the time to be the only dual post office in the world.
The building was built about 1820 as a store...Both were served by the same post master, but have not narrowed down the original postmaster. Information I have tracked down lead me to believe it was a Canadian post master who took care of both sides Canadian and American...J.L.House was postmaster from April 1, 1864 until his registration May 27,1899. BUT, there was a Name of Porter Dixon who was involved with this post office..He could have been the first post master...below are a few pictures of the dual post office.
The funny thing about this set up was it is against postal rules to hand deliver letters/parcels with out going through proper procedures
It took a 3 day journey to go through the rail system which made the journey of 200 miles to go one inch, so to speak.

Here's a local precancel from Promise City, on a 2 cents prexie, surely applied in that very building. Promise City had a population of only 110 people in the 2010 census. Even if produced back in the 1940s, would there have been a genuine need for precancels in such a small town? Probably not, most likely the stamp is a favor cancel for precancel collectors.

I found a reference for a Lockridge Inc. at Promise City said to have begun in 1940. Today it is a building materials center. I don’t know it’s original purpose.
While collectors are known to have taken stamps to obscure post offices having precancel devices, this is a legitimate precancel. .the devices were made in blocks of multiple impressions and Acquired through the local post office.
I suspect the user of this, for reasons unknown at this time, produced a large volume of mail sent at other than the 3-cent per ounce first class letter rate.
I think it is a great item..

I have rethought my words about the need for precanels in Promise City, Iowa. I'd bet that post office never had a canceling machine and all outgoing mail had to be hand canceled. Even small local businesses sending out as few as 50 to 100 advertising items would make for a heavy hand canceling job. Given the lack of a machine canceller, I can see a need for precaneled, stamps even in a small post office like Promise City.

Main Post Office Tallinn, EstoniaDuring my Baltic Sea cruise back in Aug-2018, we stopped in Tallinn, which was my first time ever in Estonia. The main Post Office there is in a beautiful location on top of a hill with great views of the city, and inside was a great philatelic counter with year sets going back more than 10 years, and stamp collecting accessories available, too.

It's Toompea's Post Office on tallinn's upper town. A very nice place, close to the Russian cathedral. I was there on August 2011.

Barcelona's GPO as it was on 1876-1890. It was demolished to build the current Catalonia square.
