this guy may have been a founding father, regret my knowledge of Franklin ultra sketchy, but ............... what I always associate with Ben Franklin is Bob Newhart's 'Analysis' sketch - flying the kite and getting burned, and not paying his analyst's bill. Some of the funniest humour from your side of the pond renden.

June 3, 1937 Cover: From Bedford, UK - where John Bunyan wrote The Pilgrim's Progress - to the small village of Keremeos, British Columbia, Canada. A distance of 4,582 kilometers and, in the case of this cover, two weeks of travel over the Atlantic Ocean and accross a continent. Stamps: The Three Kings of 1936: King George V Green 1/2d Sc. 159 King Edward VIII Green 1/2d Sc. 230 King George VI Green 1/2d Sc. 235 A philatelic souvenir to be sure. But, one probably done by someone sending it to a friend to remind them of home. Maybe a bloke who left the UK to seek his fortune in the mountainous interior of BC. The village had only been founded in 1909. Nothing much there except farming and ranching. The population today is about 1,500 - it would have been a lot less then. Always a story. Who knows?

June 4, 1929 Matching Covers: Special Airmail Flight Celebrating the official opening of the Kingston ON airport Toronto to Kingston: Handstamp Cachet – Toronto [Old] City Hall with Clock Tower Slogan Cancel: Toronto, 9am – Remember Trans Atlant[ic Flight] by British Aviat[ors] Capt John Alcock and Lt. A. Whit[ten Brown] June 14th 1919 Arrival Cancel: Kingston, 11am Stamp: ‘Two winged figures against globe’ [Each with one wing – smile] $0.05 Brown-Olive Issued September 21, 1928 Unitrade C1 Kingston to Toronto: Handstamp Cachet – View of Kingston from the heights of Fort Henry: foreground, Martello Tower; middle-ground, Royal Military College of Canada on Frederick Point; background, city of Kingston skyline. Slogan Cancel: Kingston, 11PM – Kingston Industrial Exhibition September 10-14 [This appears to be an error as the departure time is later than the arrival time. It was probably 11AM … not PM] Arrival Cancel: Toronto 4:30PM Stamp: Unitrade C1, as above [Fun fact: Despite these covers, and their cachets, there was no real ‘airport’ in Kingston in 1929 – typical for the time, it was just a grass field in the north of the city. Kingston’s modern airport was actually built in 1940, west of the city, by the Royal Air Force (yes, the one in the UK) to train pilots from across the commonwealth for service in Europe.]
