Pacific '97 was the first big international stamp show I ever attended. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago! It was a lot of fun. Salentin's post brought back a lot of memories. This is one of many special covers I did for myself during the show.

Hello Stamp Friends. Hope you are all well. This post is actually a day late. The stamp is the one issued in 2012 for the Civil War. The naval Battle of New Orleans was fought on April 24 and 25th, 1862. Flag Officer David Farragut led the Union forces past Fort Jackson and Fort St. Phillip, which event is pictured on this stamp. They also defeated a small Confederate flotilla. I am not sure of the identification of all the ships in this print, which is somewhat stylized, but one of them is undoubtedly Farragut's flagship, USS Hartford. New Orleans surrendered less than a week later, depriving the Confederacy of its largest city and an outlet from the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico. Issued April 24, 2012, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

renden , what (red) flag is on the right stamp? I have no idea and research did not help me ! The stamp depicts the warship Pericles from 150th Anniversary of the Greek War of Independence (2nd) issue of 1971. Ships were supplied by various Aegean islands and the ensign flags would depict an anchor, a cross and a spear, varying from one island to another. I can't specifically identify the island of origin but you can click on this link and enlarge the image. This Wikipedia link gives you some idea of the flags used. Daniel

Thanks, danielThe color (for greece-blue) of the flag, its position and the impression that it is not part of the original design (the thickness of the border lines of the flag) caught my attention. I think this drawing has an interesting history.
