Thanks for showing your "beauties" , Xavier - I have never been to SPM, right close to Newfoundland - from New Brunswick it would be simple by flight but there does not exist any - you have to boat into NFLD and take the route and then another short Ferry !! I have never been either, although I've been to Newfoundland. My parents did go. Turns out that the ferry only sails once a day, from SPM to NF and then back, to force visitors from Canada to stay overnight in the local hotels to stimulate the economy. At least I got the following postcard out of it, featuring issue YT#861 with a nice machine cancel. And still a marine enough topic to almost fit in this thread! (And BTW, I don't live at that address anymore).

The Faroes set is just beautiful. Wow ! Here is one from Canada, 1949 commemorating the Entry of Newfoundland into the Canadian Confederation. The Stamps depict John Cabot's ship, 'The Matthew' on it's way, presumably, to Newfoundland. Printed in Recess by the Canadian Bank Note Company in Ottawa. Perf 12.

Sc UX84/UPSS S101 July 11 1980 Heroes of the American Revolution, Count Jean Baptiste de Rochambeau 14,698,000 issued, 180,567 first day cancels (Newport, RI) This is a US Postal Card that also has a French stamp (an actual stamp, not a printed image of a stamp). I also have two more FDCs of this post card, cancelled on US Navy ships, one on the USS Miller (FF-1091) with a Marine Nationale Service a la Mer stamped cachet and a FLE Suffren stamped cachet, and one on USS Valdez (FF-1096) with a Corvette Aconit stamped cachet. I have a number of covers and cards cancelled on US Navy ships, but these two are the only ones having a cachet of a foreign ship instead of the cachet for the US ship doing the cancelling. I can add images if anyone is interested, but it is the same underlying postal card.

We saw it already in thestampforum.boards.net/post/59823/thread , but here is the "Greif" in its natural habitat, a postcard mailed from Greifswald, its home port on the Baltic coast of Germany. I lived there for some 3 years. It's a training ship for the German Navy cadets, and very impressive to see up close. Greif means "Griffon", and "Greifswald" is "Griffon Forest".
