cursus..........jealous to read you have been to the Stamp Market. I will get there next time. Glad to hear you are getting some exercise too ! This reminded me that I need to make up a packet for you and am in the process of doing that now. Should be on it's way this week. I need to make up a packet for a mutual friend too, also in Catalonia ! I finished packing and sent all other packets owed. I have almost finished my Newsletter article which will be sent to the editor later today. Then a nice item arrived which I will scan, but sadly some others have gone missing I fear due to the Postal disruptions. Pity. One day I can start organizing my own collection.......but first it's those Giveaways which end later this week !! Must get them ready. Thanks for all the entries and bids. A few lucky folk are going to get some nice stamps ! Londonbus1

Thank you for your nice words Michael. No hurry at all.
Yesterday I got my last Stamporama purchase of Modern used Greenland and Switzerland used stamps. 17 days from W.Canada to Barcelona: Not so bad, these days! I also got a Catalan local stamp and a civil war cinderella from a new contact in Canada. I'll have some stamp fun for the week-end.

The 'missing' packet I mentioned in my previous post has turned up. Just to show what mess the post is in during this Pandemic, 2 packets from same address, one arrives after 6 days and the next day the other arrives after 6 weeks !! I'm not complaining, it's just amusing ! ( I had thoughts of the quick one bumping into the slow one on the way and saying, "Come on mate get a move on "....and so he did !!) Londonbus1

My missing package showed up today after spending almost a month in the black hole of Chicago. But what GREAT stuff! I’ll share pics of the Finland classics after I get them sorted. BUT - this morning I did a major forehead slap! Sheesh! I bid on a “bisect” OFF PAPER. Thank goodness it was only a few dollars. Lesson learned! No bidding until the coffee kicks in! Here’s a pic of my boondoggle purchase ...

Working on getting the accumulated hunting/fishing stamps in order, finally. I never realized how many mounts these chew up. Unfortunately, I ran out of them before IO could finish. Time to place an order I guess.

I printed all new replacement labels for my Vario binders. I collect a lot of countries so keep more than one country in a binder and as my collection grows (adding Steiner pages) I need to redistribute. Since I only have a couple binders dedicated to one country, this means countries move from one binder to the next. The labels are removable type printed on my laser printer so when I need to redo I just peel off the labels and replace them. For now, most are in alphabetical order but at some point I want to group some like British (East) Africa so independents are in same binder as colonials.

Yes! angore! Wow those are really stunning binders and I’d sure love to take a peek at your Bermuda. But, like stainlessb, My budget calls for plain white Avery Dennison binders and more $ for my auction addiction. Today I’m working on trades and my Ryukyu - I have almost completed the collection! No #17 - that pricy overprint, but the rest is looking good!

Al ( angore) - would you mind sharing which labels you use? I've got the same Lighthouse binders, and have been looking for some nice labels that won't ruin the books if changed.

They are Avery 5436 1x3 inch labels and I just started using the Office Depot ones since the Avery were not in stock. On my binders they are not close to permanent. If you snag or pick at it, play around when applying (remove/replace), etc. this will reduce effectiveness and fall off sooner. I have Mystic binders and they do not stick long to them very long. The labels sometimes discolor. The plastic must be active. www.amazon.com/Avery-Removable-Print-Labels-Inches/dp/B008ORRO3M/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=avery+5436&qid=1599678697&sr=8-1What I want to test is more permanent ones but use Pure Citrus to see if it will remove them from binders. The Vario prices have gone up big time. I was paying $125 for 5.

They are Avery 5436 1x3 inch labels and I just started using the Office Depot ones since the Avery were not in stock. If I may just throw in my 2 cents here, although, Al, I don't think it'll affect you, since they're not attaching that well for you anyway. I use small removable labels on my 102 cards and some stock sheets. I've used Avery as well as private label branding (Office Depot, U-line, etc.) Only the Avery labels were still removable over a period of time, and not before I wanted to remove them. The other brands either fell off after a few months, or, even more annoying to me, became permanent. Unfortunately, I had bought a case of the labels offered by U-line, and they became permanent within 2-3 months. I wrote them and asked about this, and they said that, even though the labels said 'removable', that didn't mean after a long period of time. They expected about 90 days for them to be removable, and after that, permanent. They offered no apologies other than something like, 'sorry it didn't work out for you.' Avery labels have been consistently reliable.
Avery also makes a slightly different kind of label: a 'repositionable' label. Not sure if that might address your needs a little bit better: www.avery.com/products/labels/55160But, upon closer inspection, perhaps not, because I see it says in the product description: "Repositionable adhesive becomes permanent over time so labels won't fall off".

I will be watching the Office Depot ones but I have been using the Avery for 3 years and happy with the trade offs. I did a test on vario sheets (were under pressure a long time) and they did not want to remove easily.

What an eventful day: Sent home early from work, because of low production. Wife also sent home early because a co-worker tested positive with Covid. Decided I needed some stamp time to calm my nerves, so I found a folder with some Cuba stamps in it and was able to find 67 stamps that I needed. In the meantime, the health dept. contacted my wife and told her she didn't need to quarantine, because of minimal exposure, but to monitor for symptoms. I think I will be going to bed early......

I was going to scan some stamps received, but now maybe tomorrow. Smoke here is so bad the motion detectors for outside lights are triggering during the day. sadly as soon as one fire seems "under control" there's several new ones.... depending on who is reporting 2.6 to 3 million acres have now burned (all time record). The air quality is horrid, daytime is now orange sunshine, maybe even a shadow, ash is everywhere. This is truly the worse I have experienced, and I have lived my entire life in California- in the valley, the SF bay area, and up in the Sierras. It seems everything is on fire. It's too early to pray for rain. Fortunately the smoke blocks the sun, lowers the temps and raise the humidity..... not ideal, but a plus for the firefighters, Climate change is finally being recognized as the cause... as if Covid-19 wasn't enough
<sigh>

Success in stamping today: Started going though the mounds of GB that have accumulated since I set up my initial album. I was able to add 141 new (to me) stamps to my album. One of these days I'll actually tackle the growing pile of Machins though.

spent the day sorting France (I at least got one pile of pages taken care of) I received this in the mail today. I only needed the upper strip, but this particular seller who I have purchased from before (Sarl Pecheur De Timbres, Paris) offered these for less than everyone else wanted for just the upper! It is MNH, I have all the single stamps, so now I see another page approaching! Still very smoky here, the largest fire (August Complex) is now almost 850,000 acres and only 25% contained (This morning it was jusy under 500,000 acres, so this one is just running wild). Needless to say, it is bad, most of us who can, are staying inside (even our cat is spending much more time indoors) Stay safe everyone

I'll just add to the California fire report from the southern end of the state, in the Los Angeles area.
It would ordinarily be bad here, but it's nothing compared to what is going on in Central and Northern California, as well as Oregon and Washington.
Despite that, there's a fire (the Bobcat Fire, for anybody keeping track) that's about 8 miles from us at its southernmost point. For the first few days, it was burning primarily to the north, staying in the National Forest. But there is a risk that the winds will change, and it's thought that the fire might burn to the southwest and possibly reach the towns at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Beginning two towns over to the west of us issued evacuation warnings (not orders yet) were issued to get people to prepare to leave quickly. The winds have not turned yet.
However, as you've been reading, the air quality is awful. There's been so much smoke that it's actually kept our temps about 10-12 degrees cooler than forecast. Yesterday, for several hours, the air quality was classified as "hazardous" for all people and to stay inside. Today, just smokey and overcast, deemed "very unhealthy".
Nevertheless, having griped about all this, it is much, much worse points north, including, it is thought, towns in Oregon totally wiped out, with significant loss of life anticipated.
Meanwhile, I've been trying to stay as stampy as conditions allow.
A tough year for everyone, worldwide.

As you saw from my posting activity yesterday, I've received this week the first of three big orders I made to treat myself for my birthday. There'll be more posts coming. From a labour point of view, the biggest chunk is the packet of 500 Zaïre stamps (I expect to find about 100 to 150 new issues from me, plus replacing many CTOs with mint issues). It spills out into the "Republic of Congo" and "Democratic Republic of Congo" periods as well. So that will keep me busy for a few days.

A stampless weekend, now I have mailed my various give aways.
I am plumming the depths today , ( no not plumbing ) my little Victoria plum tree has a fantastic crop this year, faster than I can eat her beautiful bounty . Just done 4 Ibs pickled in cinnamon & clove vinegar for consumption at Christmas, and been two hours stoning 6ibs plums with apple onion etc now simmering a big batch of plum chutney to be jarred up later today. Meantime picked a crop of tomatoes making 4 pints of soup .........oh and organised a load of shirt washing on the line.
Sister is convinced I am competing in some Domestic Goddess contest.
About to sit with a coffee and Gibbons Stamp Monthly magazine having been on the go for 5 hours in the kitchen .

I feel for the people in California, as well as the other states where fires are consuming lives. I lived in LA County for 30 years, so I am familiar with the fires and earthquakes, although I can't remember it ever being this bad. Stay safe everyone.
As far as stamps go, I added a further 65 stamps to me GB album this morning. All these additions also required me to expand my album. I use 1" binders almost exclusively, so it doesn't take long to fill one up, even with 32lb paper.
Before this, I had my GB album contained in a single 1" binder. This included regular issues to 1990, BOB and Foreign Offices. Now, I am dividing this into 3 binders - 1 for regular issues to 1980, 1 for regular issues from 1981 to 2000 (or so), and 1 for BOB and Offices.

I went to Barcelona's Sunday Stamp Market, at Plaça Reial. It was a nice morning, bought some Scandinavian stamps and a small collection of stamps in mixed condition (used, NG, MH and UMM) of the old Spanish colony of Ifni (NW Africa). About 200 stamps.
As I said before, I don't collect Spanish stamps. But, 50 years ago I started "collecting" Ifni's duplicates from an uncle of mine that had done his militar service there (it was normal, on Franco's time to send Catalan guys to distant places for their army service). Later, I went to "more serious fields" and forgot about Ifni.
Some years ago I started to save used stamps from this colony, as they're quite common on our stamp markets.
I've already started to soak and clean the ones that needed that. I guess, I'll keep about 25-50 stamps for my collection, and use the others for trade. Perhaps, someone will be interested on them.
Anyway, the purchase, was mainly to play with stamps, and keep the good relationship, with the salesman, that often carries interesting cinderellas for a good price for customers.
