@beryllium Guy, I placed an eBay order with a European seller on March 16. After a month, the stamps had not arrived. I hastily asked for a refund and got it on April 25. That same day, I received the stamps. The envelope stamp was cancelled on March 18 but there was a coded bar at the bottom that read April 21. Anyway, the seller and I were in communication, and I sent the money back to him. Positive feedback all around. I learned a lesson not to push the request refund so fast. PS... I tagged your name, but the capital "B" turned into a lowercase "b" after pressing the create tab.

Good Morning everyone! I’m back and feeling better - slowly but surely. I’ve found that I can work on my stamps as long as I don’t do too much back and forth eye movement such as updating wantlists. I still have problems with any website that has moving advertisements or any random motion - I’m limiting time online. I’ll try to tidy up my giveaways and threads here in the forum later today. I started slowly prepping more duplicates to sell on eBay and hubby is helping a bit with some of that computer work. I had lots scheduled to activate today - I use that delay function to time it so everything starts and ends just one hour per week. I’m getting close to selling out a bunch of different countries - finally! For those of you that don’t know me, I decided to sell my enormous accumulation of duplicates on eBay by mostly penny lots or by 5-10% of catalog - giveaway prices to ensure that they actually sell. I want to list them once then send them off to another collector. I’m 6 months into the project and I’ve emptied about a dozen red boxes! This week I tackled some perforation checking - old Austrian issues mostly, and some Jersey definitives. That was something I could do that didn’t make me too dizzy. I’ve been using this old Harris metal perforation gauge since forever and I may have to try to find another - I’ve used it so much that I’m wearing it thin from where my tongs rub on the surface! Most of my perf checking is obviously the 10/11 range - yup - you got it - USA varieties. Ok, have to take a break then get a few more lots on ebay before my 10 am auctions go active. I’ll post more about an awesome surprise that I received from vikingeck and carabop and then declare a winner in those giveaways later today. soooooo much for all of the cheerful get well wishes. Happy stamping!

Once again, life and work have gotten in the way of any stamping. Spent two weeks in Colorado for work and after getting back had to help my daughter pack up her house so she can move to Florida. Only had a day or this week to do anything. Next week should be better and I can finally finish up with Japan (watch for a giveaway).

I've been a reluctant collector since I returned home from the UK. My collection felt extremely heavy and I didn't know where I should start. But this weekend I got back to working on New Zealand. I started by filling spaces from a purchase from a couple of months ago. Completed two or three pages and that felt nice. Then I reworked some early pages to add stamps I never thought I'd get (so didn't have spaces for them.) The new pages look nice. And this afternoon I made up a half dozen new pages in AlbumEasy, ready to print and mount definitive series from 1975 - 1995. My goodness, once I get my layouts standardized the pages go very quickly indeed. It's nice to get back into a stamping groove again.

Good morning forum friends.
WOW! So many new members! A hearty welcome to all of you! I hope you feel comfy with us and join in the fun and participate.
Talk about unexpected, hubby is not only helping me with the project of selling my duplicates on eBay, but I think he is getting hooked. He keeps hinting that I should make purchases because they offset the sales income tax wise. I remind him that I DO NOT want to become a stamp dealer - that this is just temporary until I sell all of my duplicates. Too funny! So with his assistance there are new lots up this week. Anyways, so when I feel up to stamping, I prep a few auction lots. That’s pretty much my “stamping” for now. Oh my gawd I still have so many duplicates! Slowly but surely, but NO buying to resell - ugh!
I found that I can use my iPad longer if I stabilize my head on a pillow. Where there’s a will there’s a way!
Happy stamping!

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I have worked my self out of a job with the several large boxes of stuff I bought back in January. It kept me busy for a few months. There is a promise of another box coming next week. In the mean time I continue to get my daily eBay notices of Queens County related covers and postmarks. I saw this one this morning and could not help but think that even in 1905 there can be some real jerks. You will know what I mean when you see the placement of the postmark by the postal clerk at Annisquam, Massachusetts.

Just home from a profitable session of the “Friday Group”. I managed to trade a dozen GB fdc and half a dozen Hong Kong China. The packet secretary also handed me the proceeds of circulating booklets he has retired, so my reserve for new purchases got quite a boost.
Only a dozen members present today. We usually get 15 or 16 at our fortnightly coffee and chat sessions.

what I’ve been stampin’ When I feel up to working at my desk, mostly I’m busy culling duplicates from my Hagnar sheets. When I buy a stockbook full of stamps, I put them on my Vario/Hagnar pages then later on I go back and keep the mint and used copy that I like best, giving preference to clear CDS cancels. This way, I’m always improving the quality of my collections. Plus I get to enjoy looking at them. After I complete a few years or so, I take all the duplicates and make up auction lots by years, mint or used, usually priced at 5 to 10 % of catalog. The overstocked either get donated, put into red boxes or go into penny lots. Hubby helps with some of this process. Before and after pictures; Messy before; Nice and tidy afterwards;

Recently fell down the philatelic 'rabbit hole' and have been lost exploring the Falkland Islands Bird Definitive Series of 1960-68 such as examples which can be seen in TSF's The Falkland Islands (Malvinas) or Birds on Stamps! threads. With a nice little collection amassed, I look forward to continuing my 'playing' with the set and filling in the proverbial 'gaps'. My thanks to both Alex ( vikingeck) and Gene ( djcmh), who have been most supportive in this current endeavour... Have fun and happy collecting!

Lately I've been buying Switzerland,Norway, Iceland and Greenland used stamps from Stamporama Auctions ans Approval books. Also, bought three Switzerland airmail stamps, that I was missing snce a long time ago, from e-bay. Off course, I keep on going most Sundays to Plaça Reial (Barcelona) stamp market, although the fortune, depends on the day. Last Sunday, I was lucky enough to find about 50 used Iceland stamps and a few early XXth century Catalan cinderellas. To end with it, last Friday there was a donation to the thrift shop of many 1970-1992 Hong Kong definitives as well as a few commemorative stamps. As there were many duplicates, I kept one of each for myself. This was a good reason to do a little reserach on Hong Kong stamps.

I am still working on Indonesia. I have found errors on 3 different Steiner pages - missing stamps, stamps that were not issued, incorrect box sizes. I must be one of the first to use these pages. I reported them to Bill. These were in the pre-1950 Vienna issue period that Scott only listed in 2008.

contact the post office, with the tracking info and that it has been in LA for 4 weeks- I had something similar and voila, it showed up a week later. though I have noticed mail has gotten (again) slower.... Just wanted to post a follow-up on these two seemingly lost eBay items. One item surfaced after about a month of no updates, and I have received it. The other item, most unfortunately, has had an official enquiry through Royal Mail to the USPS, and it seems to have disappeared. USPS says that they cannot find it at the LA International Sorting Center, where its tracking shows that it arrived back on 1st April. No trace of it has been found since. When I tried calling the USPS Customer Service line myself, they told me that the only recourse was through Royal Mail. The eBay seller has been excellent throughout all of this, and I really feel bad for him. He has now given me a full refund, and he is out the stamps to boot. This is the first time that this has ever happened to me on a tracked shipment. What a bummer.... the packet contained two beautiful Cape Triangles, and I am very disappointed. Who knows? Maybe one day they will just appear in my mailbox, and I will happily, nay joyously, pay the seller again. But for now, that's the story. Stay stampy, all!

The eBay seller should be able to get compensation from Royal Mail, The level of compensation depends on the tracking. I think up to £200 unless he paid extra. If it is just a proof of posting without tracking the limit is £20 . In the end he should get some money back .
I had a UK item with tracking go off the radar for 12 days when it should have been delivered within 24 hours. We had got to the stage of posting a Not received claim with eBay when it turned up yesterday Misdirected to the wrong bag at Chester it went west to Isle of Man before being re routed North to me in Aberdeen . 12 days late.

Thanks for your post, Alex ( vikingeck). Since I made the previous post, I have had another message from the eBay seller, and he told me that the shipment was fully insured, so he will indeed be compensated for his loss. I am at least glad to know that. Interestingly, he has taken the step of contacting the APS and sending them high-resolution images of the two stamps in case they are sent in for expertizing or listed for sale somewhere. He thinks that in case it would turn out to be an incident of theft within the USPS, the stamps may show up again somewhere in the US. Personally, I am not investing too much emotion in it, but I am hoping that the envelope simply fell under a table or a bin or something, and that one day it will be found and sent along to me. I realize that is likely to be a low-probability outcome at this stage of the game, but who knows? Maybe, I'll get lucky! As far as the theft aspect goes, I will revert to my old favorite version of Occam's Razor: So, I tell myself it is more likely mislaid or dropped somewhere than stolen. We shall see....

Today included another curb side exchange with my antique and collectables dealer friend. It almost came to blows as once more he was refusing to take money for Canadian postage and a few items I had sold for him from his last drop off. I won the fight and he took the cash. Then there is all the stuff I keep for me so I expect nothing for my left overs he moves along. Today's incoming looks pretty sad but hopefully I will find some surprises.

Looks interesting Hugh hdm1950, have fun . I am waiting a confirmation phone call from an elderly lady to inspect “a childhood collection from when my Dad worked in HK&Shanghai bank in Singapore, China and Japan” . It will either be junior material or potentially have some decent items to be released to the philatelic world.

This week I posted my first letter since October having been given assurances that all is OK. In any case the buyer opted for registered mail so that was a relief. If all goes well, I can start selling again and to that end have been preparing some lots for that special occasion !!! I received in the mail one of the lots that was 'returned to sender' last October. This was another lot from Poland that came with a stamp-cum-registered label all in one. Interesting it may be, but an item of beauty it is not ! An now awaiting on items from Canada who now have a service to Israel after a 6-month suspension. I have also been checking out any Philatelic events for my UK trip in July. Lucked out mostly but Stamp fairs in Cirencester and Oxford are a distinct possibility. Then there is the Glasgow Stamp Shop which is already pencilled in. Any Scottish members know of any other shops north of the border ? Alex ( vikingeck) ? Or what about shops South of the border........those were the days ! But soon it's babysitting time, the most exciting part of the day. So it's 'down tweezers' and get into silly mode !! Londonbus1

Michael, Londonbus1, what are your dates in the UK ? Gordon Carrol’s Glasgow stamp shop is a great visit , free coffee a leather armchairs , great chat with local collectors. Corbitts in Newcastle is reported a good visit , sadly Robert Murray in Edinburgh is in the process of closing down but has occasional one day openings. Duwalders in Salisbury one of the bigger shops Are you in the York area for the big show 19-20 July ? I will be there as will Michael, Is there any chance we can meet in Scotland or York ?

Is there any chance we can meet in Scotland or York ? Alex, vikingeck.....Sadly, the dates for York did not quite fit in and there was no way around it. I will be in Scotland from July 14th-26th and am in the middle of making plans for what to see and do. Is the Granite City worth a wee look ? We are staying in Dunfermline so quite a hike. But it's a possibility. Londonbus1

Hello! Two stamping adventures today where I didn't touch a stamp. Or possibly I touched all of them. After five years of holding the majority of my collection in boxes in my closet, I found a set of bookshelves that fit in our apartment living room. So today I moved all my albums and catalogues to their new home. 💖 And tonight, my wife and I sat down to watch Race Around the World on BBC as the racers travelled across Malaysia, and I was so thrilled that I knew a bit about their adventures as I'd been working on my Malaysia stamps a few months ago. It was nice to see images of the landscapes alluded to via my meagre Malaysian holdings.

"Danzigging" in HawaiiGreetings, stampers everywhere! I hope this post finds you all as well as you can be. As I write this, I am sitting in Honolulu Airport waiting for our flight back to California. It has been an easy-paced, relaxing vacation these past 10 days, and it even included a bit of stamping! My wife and I typically take two types of trips: the ones where the idea is to play the tourist and see as many sights as we reasonably can and the ones where we just want to get away from work and the routine of our daily lives and relax and take it easy. This trip was the latter type, so of course, I brought a small stamp project with me, just in case I had some time on my hands and a suitable place to do some stamping. Photo taken yesterday of my Danzig sorting project. I brought a small stock book in which to organize the stamps, and most of those shown above in various envelopes and cards are now in the book, pretty much in Scott Catalogue order. I still have a couple more cards of stamps to complete, but hopefully, I will be able to get those done this week back home. This project has been "in progress" for a long time. I am using quotation marks there because there has essentially been no progress since we left the UK back in Nov-2022 to move back to California. It has been more of an exercise in procrastination than anything else. As I was trying to decide which little project to bring with me on the trip, I considered a few possibilities, but in the end, I settled on this long-languishing case in the hope that I could get it out of its extended state of stagnation! I think that the sorting is about 60-70% done based on this latest effort, but I still need to do some watermarking to have it done properly. The light in the hotel room wasn't very good for watermark ID work, so I sorted as best I could without attempting that aspect. I will also need to do some soaking, as many of the stamps have hinge remnants, which will make watermark ID difficult. I would like to take this moment to thank Terri ( philatelia), who sold me her Danzig accumulation 2-3 years ago, and that is where much of what you see above came from. I also received gifts of Danzig stamps from Stan ( stainlessb) and Rene ( renden) over the past couple of years, and their contributions are also in there somewhere. Thanks to all who have helped me with these, as I do like the issues quite well. Now I just need to decide on the cut-off date and put the collection together. For the moment, our flight home awaits. Stay stampy, all!

it seems I am forever organizing... which is a hint as to how well my organization is planned out.
The past few afternoons I have spent time working with color recognition and a few epiphanies as to what is practical, what works well, and what doesn't work quite like I had hoped. It does represent some progress albeit slow. fortunately I am not working in a vacuum and there will be some cross-checking of sorts soon to see if current ideas are valid (and I have had a couple that seemed like a good idea, but turns out not so much)
At the moment my desk is organized 'enough' so I can (at least temporarily) not concern myself with a handful of 'need to do's'. In the background, the list grows of things I should be doing, but what I like about retirement is how easy it is to procrastinate!
I salute those of you who are much more disciplined than I!
Keep on stamping!

Whilst researching this week's Mystery Stamp Challenge, the path lead me to an upcoming auction prepared by UK's Grosvenor's of material from the British Empire and Foreign Countries. With 'bird hunting' still in season, let us see if I cannot bag a few more before the licence expires. Even with no bids submitted (as of yet), it is still nice to see items in the 'wild' before they disappear into someone's collection... Have fun and happy collecting! P.S. Not much for a while now, which includes visiting the forum. Good to be back & I hope everyone here is keeping well. So my excuse for not visiting the forum for some time is pretty pathetic but here goes. Some time ago my partner retired from work, working from home since the covid pandemic, (not before time). After the initial celebrations had subsided we decided that our abode & garden needed updating, cleaning & decorating throughout. Having almost completed the afore mentioned tasks it is now back to stamp collecting again, yea!! I did visit my local stamp auction last month but missed the lot I wanted, coming away with the lot after it which had similar GB items in it. eBay has been busy for me lately after a downturn in sales after Christmas. It must have been all that rain we had for weeks, putting people off from buying stamps, for fear of them getting them wet in transit?? I purchased several Machin single stamps last weekend which have yet to find their way into my specialist album. Several items from the auction lot I won still have not been dealt with as quite honestly I'm not sure how to deal with them. They are mainly pre-postal items & Victorian era items (receipts, covers revenues etc) with which my knowledge is sketchy to say the least. Well that's about it for now & time to add those Machins to my collection. Oh! just remembered I've got a bit more painting to do first.
