For the 5c, blue-green on the left, yellow-green on the right. Comparing the 15c, it's blue-green. I'm happy to help with these, as I have a full reference set Thanks. I will look at this again when I get back to working on this country. The colors are what was noted when I removed from album - not my identification. I did check and noted the perfs.

I do have Scott's and SG 1840-1970 catalog. The SG is easier to read (printed on low gloss paper, nice alignment of text columns, adds text in one group above stamps).

I have issues (like most, I presume) differentiating the various colours! Like black and deep black; deep ultramarine or deep blue; blue or dull blue. Why couldn't they just change the perf instead? It looks like I have most varieties, except the inverted watermarks, or the priciest varieties.

I have spent the last 4 hours sifting through all these Commonwealth stamps and learning about Bar Cancels of North Borneo and Post Office Chops !! Now my back is aching. It's been 6 years and more since I sat down to 'study' postage stamps and I'll admit that I have struggled..........but in a fun sort of way. My SG British Empire Catalogue is helping but there is much work to do. Having never collected any British Empire before (except GB), everything I am looking at is new. From the simplest low value to those with multiple overprints. I haven't even started on Australian States yet !! Another 4 hours tomorrow ? Why not !

This is the reason I use an ancient colour guide, that shows how colours look on a stamp

About colours, I'm always confused, as a French speaker, about the "lake" colour, which I would have thought to be blue, since it's a water name, but is instead some tint of red used in early US issues. Where does this name come from?

Plenty of colours to ponder over when I look at all these Commonwealth stamps. Great colours and great names for them !! Just need to remember that the names do differ greatly or slightly depending on where you live. Putting a Scott and Gibbons catalogue side-by-side on the same country pages can be a lot of fun, for example. (Same applies to other catalogues) !!! I spent some hours yesterday scanning these new arrivals and boring you lot to tears with my posts about them. My apologies for that, I do get carried away when I have stamp tweezers (tongs in the USA) in hand ! Ask Beryllium Guy. But actually I felt some philatelic 'pangs' to start collecting stamps again and I hope that feeling goes away soon ! The Cinderellas will be getting frustrated, jealous and ignored ! Off to do some more scanning shortly........stay away from the board at your peril. Well, it's the eve of Yom Kippur and the whole of the nation shuts down later (6pm), stays quiet and doesn't eat for 24 hours. I ONLY stay quiet......a good time for Stamping. Londonbus1

Michael, I think that the best way to resist the temptation of restarting your postage stamp collection is to divest yourself of those enticing items as quickly as you can! And I know just the guy to take some of that material off your hands! Enjoy your holidays, my friend!

Last night I received some pieces I had been looking for for a while. They complete the joint issue for the 2002 World Cup by the previous winners (Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, and Uruguay, for some reason the UK did not participate in the joint issue, maybe because it was England and not the UK that won the Cup back then). So for your viewing pleasure: The French issue as a sheet: The other five country issues: We can also see here an early advantage of the introduction of the Euro: a direct comparison of postal rates between European countries!

I've been sorting and soaking classic Italy and Switzerland. It's delicate work! Some of the Italy are on VERY thin paper

Xavier, it's a beautiful post--thank you! Sorry that I had not seen it this morning so that I could have commented intelligently when I saw you at lunch.... Perhaps there is a topical thread where these images should also reside so that others will be able to more easily discover them in the future. I really like this thread, but it is always a temptation to post things here which will almost never be found again, except by happenstance, unless they are also posted under a thread which indicates a suitable subject, such as a country, topic, event, stamp category, etc. Anyway, I agree that they are beautiful stamps!

Do agree that Xavier's post showed us some beauties - Merci Beaucoup Xavier (Thanks Xavier) !!!!
Yesterday I inventoried more than 250 IRAQ stamps, nothing exciting, the earlies, but as a WW collector you have to go through these phases.....interesting 5+,......2+....everything is in many cataloges (catalogues) as I use the old Scott International 1 and 2 from my late dad and the more recent ones and do find a lot of "officials" missing in both versions......I conclude that Scott did not care for "official stamps" of Iraq lol lol ! I will not do "personal" pages for Iraq.....uninteresting...... René

I see there is a "Sports and Olympics" thread where these could go too. Next time I'll try to post in thematic thread and link to it here... Hopefully I will figure it out! Finished cataloging the first of my three Canadian stamps stockbooks tonight. Still so much to do... My initial estimate of two months for the whole collection is probably way too optimistic! And thanks to renden for his encouragements. I'll bring something in on Monday (At home my scanner is only B&W, so I have to do them using the work photocopier). As I told Beryllium Guy today, I am hoping to receive the second set of TAAF insects issues in the coming days, and I'll certainly post these, 'cause they are simply too gorgeous!

Today was cooking day so not much with stamps. But I did get some items ready to scan tomorrow, some Sarawak, Queensland, GB, Morrocco Agencies and South Africa. Just been having a look through Australian States and getting confused more than not. But I keep saying it.....all good fun !! For the next 2 weeks we are 'babysitting' full time so the stamps will take a back seat for a while. I'll sneak in some hours when everyone is sleeping !! Londonbus1

In that "Sports" sub-board, you could also just start a new thread for Football/Soccer or specifically World Cup Football/Soccer. I think that either of these topics has the potential to be a subject of interest all on its own, and there are certainly more stamps available on this subject that others could post. I probably have some myself, but they are languishing back in California. I am going to be a busy guy stamp-wise during my Christmas holidays this year! In any case, bravo, Xavier!

All you hard working collectors are putting me to shame. All I have been working on is cataloging the horde of Canadian stamps issued since 1995. I have had some for many years. Others were from those silly late night impulse buys. Once done that I will have mount and get them in albums. Also been puttering around with my Machin collection. All ready to put into album when I decide to print the pages. My “to do” list seems to be getting longer. At least I have kept my work space relatively organized. Now that cooler weather is approaching I will be spending more time inside trying to clear the back load. All the post about how hard you all working has inspired me to get working.

(good luck) René, you are absolutely right, of course! I have just been noticing in the last couple of weeks how many times I have written "...when I am back in California for the Christmas holidays...." on this Forum! There will be a lot to do, but it will all be my utmost pleasure. In the meantime, I have made my share of acquisitions while here in "la belle France" and those are keeping me occupied, for sure. Tomorrow I will head back to the Saturday morning street market to see the stamp dealer who has been promising me "vignettes" ("Cinderellas" for those not speaking French), which will be destined to end up with Michael ( Londonbus1), as I shamelessly attempt to curry favour with him so that I can continue to get first dibs on the British Commonwealth collection he is liquidating.... So, yes, I miss having access to my complete collection and library, but I am doing fine with what I have here, and of course, I am always enjoying my time on TSF, which manages to keep me connected to stamps and stamp friends, even when I am not able to work on my collection. And that is a very good thing!

Today was a "have-a-nap" day, since I was up again at 0400 hrs. Good thing though, as a rip-roaring thunderstorm blew through at 0430. Checked the post off at 1000 only to see air. Thought I'd go back at 1600, and lo & behold, my latest auction winnings were in. This lot includes the 1970 Heinemann definitives & the 1971-1973 Accident Prevention set, which also includes one booklet pane and a full set of coil strips of 5. Had it at a good price too!
Postbeeld, Unitrade & APS StampStore hopefully will be here sometime next week.
Why do I keep buying? I have to work on what I have first! Same thing applies to books as well!

Finally my trip has come to an end, sadly !! I just landed in Turkey for few days and from here i will be heading back to Zambia (lots and lots of work is waiting for me there, but i promise that I'll find the time to start posting on TSF again) .
It is always hard to leave home and loved ones behind after all the years i spent in Africa, i thought that it would get easier by now ............. Noppppp !!
Well at least i have a very large stock of stamps heading back with me, they will keep me company for the next few month. I spent exactly two hours trying to figure the best way to pack everything "safely" in my luggage, in case customs officers decided to investigate !!
Just before i was heading to the airport entrance i ended up opening all my bags and transferring everything to my laptop bag. Yes i risked denting or cracking the laptop between my heavy belongings for the sake of personally transporting my precious stamps "unharmed" . Obsessive behavior ? Hmmm Yesss, when it comes to stamps !!
That reminded me of one of my favorite dialogues from Alice in Wonderland .
The Mad Hatter: "Have i gone mad ?"
Alice: "I'm afraid so.You're entirely bonkers. But i'll tell you a secret. All the best people are."
Cheers everyone !!
